May 27, 2008 Tokyo Egg Dome Supercard presented by Weekly Gong MagazineGiant Baba (All Japan Pro Wrestling) & Antonio Inoki (New Japan Pro Wrestling) vs. Abdullah the Butcher (AJPW) & Bruiser Brody (NJPW) Aired on USWA Championship Wrestling on May 31, 2008 The match started slowly with both teams tagging in and out and hitting some of their specialty moves, trying to psych out the other team. Inoki came off the second rope with a stomp to Brody’s arm. He later hit Abdullah with an enzuigiri, but only dazed the Sudanese madman. Brody came off the top rope with a double sledge to Baba, but Baba dodged it and hit the dreaded neckbreaker drop out of nowhere! He went for a cover, but only got a two-count. Abdullah produced a small fork and jabbed Inoki with it. Brody tagged in and hit a piledriver. The previous fork shot busted Inoki open. Brody went for a cover, but Baba stepped in and booted Brody in the face. Brody dropped Inoki with a twisting vertical suplex, but Inoki again kicked out. The Tokyo crowd got behind the bloody Inoki, trying to get behind him. Abdullah dropped his big elbow onto Inoki, but somehow Inoki managed to kick out. Angered by Abdullah’s use of the foreign object, Inoki rolled out to the floor and with New Japan official Masao “Tiger” Hattori distracted by Baba and Brody in the ring, Inoki smashed Abdullah with a steel chair. All Japan referee Kanji “Joe” Higuchi was outside the ring, but somehow missed this as well! Baba tagged in and hit another neckbreaker drop, but Abdullah got his foot on the ropes. Suddenly all four men started brawling in the ring, Abdullah brought the same chair into the ring that Inoki had just used and clocked both Inoki and Baba with it. Due to the importance of the match, Hattori didn’t immediately disqualify him, but then Brody brought in his chains and started to choke Inoki with them. Abdullah shoved down Hattori, then Haguchi, who had jumped in the ring. Hattori called for the bell and awarded the bout to Inoki and Baba by DQ. The monster gaijins continued their assault on the native heroes, as the Tokyo Dome fans looked on in shock. Several more NJPW and AJPW officials filled the ring. Brody and Abdullah let up, but then the Japanese duo came back and attacked their rivals with chairs. Brody and Abdullah fled for the locker room. Baba and Inoki stood in the middle of the Dome ring and did Inoki’s “ Ichi, Ni, San, Da!” count with the fans. The two then held hands. They were certainly not happy with the DQ victory, but they reveled in the cheers of their fans. **** In the next report, two huge announcements and the preview for Card #170 from the Louisville Gardens!

Following the broadcast of the big interpromotional tag team match at the Tokyo Dome on the May 31 edition of USWA Championship Wrestling, the following announcements were made: • First Lance Russell announced that Giant Baba will be returning to USWA rings this summer! The former USWA World Tag Team and two-time Southern Heavyweight champ is ready to come back and gain revenge on The “Intelligent, Sensational” Destroyer who sent Abdullah the Butcher after him in AJPW. Baba will return on June 13 at the City Coliseum in Austin to battle long-time rival The Masked Superstar. His Japanese interpreter also issued a challenge on his behalf to meet The Destroyer on July 4 at the Independence Day Bash at Texas Stadium! Destroyer accepted the challenge later in the show. The masked man stated that he will prove that he was the superior member of their championship team and that he “carried” Baba. • The main event for the Independence Day Bash was also made. Team RPW member Frank Gotch has issued a challenge for the USWA World Heavyweight championship! The two-time former Southern champ and one-time World Tag Team champ has declared that he wants to get another shot at the World title and finally capture the big prize. USWA Committee Chairman Jerry Jarrett said that Gotch is worthy of the shot and granted him the request. Ed “Strangler” Lewis came into the WMC-TV studios as well and said that if he is still champion on the Fourth of July, he would be more than happy to defend his title against a great pure wrestler like Gotch. Lewis must get by his next challenger before then. (See Card #170 preview below.)
School’s out for summer, but the USWA doesn’t take a vacation! The Louisville Gardens host a huge card on June 6! • A unique feud continues as “Playboy” Buddy Rose battles the hillbilly Cousin Luke. Luke clocked Rose with his horseshoe in the tag team match in Nashville a few weeks back. Will the horseshoe bring him luck—either in the ring or with “Sensational” Sherri Martel? • A rematch from the last card has been signed, as The Killer Bees will battle the World Tag Team champions The Midnight Express in a non-title bout. The Bees claimed that The Midnights ambushed them, but Jim Cornette said they were just fighting like The Bees would. Can the champs win again or will they get stung? • “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka looks for revenge as he battles the man who injured him—Southern Heavyweight champion Killer Kowalski in a big grudge match! Snuka scored a pinfall on the champ on April 11 in a tag team match. Can he do it again or will Kowalski put him down with the claw? • Hometown “hero” “The Louisville Slugger” Jim Cornette will end his rivalry with fellow manager Bobby “The Brain” Heenan when the two meet one-on-one. Can Cornette make his mama proud? • In a huge rematch, Rikidozan battles The “Intelligent, Sensational” Destroyer. Destroyer is on a bit of a losing streak. And with the impending return of Giant Baba, will this affect him? • The main event will feature a true hometown hero, Ed “Strangler” Lewis defending the USWA World Heavyweight championship against “Ravishing” Rick Rude. Rude was so confident that he’d beat Lewis in Louisville, that he appeared on WMC-TV with the title belt airbrushed on his tights! Can Lewis make the Louisville fans proud or will a new champ be simply ravishing? All this plus Bobo Brazil battles The Masked Superstar. Frank Gotch in action, as well as fellow Team RPW members Dick Hutton and Texas champ Danny Hodge in tag competition. Also, the return (or debut?) of “The Boogie Woogie Man”—“Handsome” Jimmy Valiant!

June 6, 2008 Card #170: Louisville Gardens
1) Team RPW’s Oklahomans of Dick Hutton and Texas champ Danny Hodge defeated “The Birdman” Koko B. Ware and S.D. Jones in the opener. The two teams had a brief, but competitive match. “Special Delivery” got a two-count on Coach Hutton after a head butt, but Hutton came back and got the submission on Jones with the abdominal stretch. The two teams shook hands afterwards. *¾
2) “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant scored a submission on Larry Sharpe in his first USWA match in almost two years. Valiant was very popular, playing to the crowd and doing his little dances. But he may have gotten too distracted as Sharpe came close to an upset, hitting two piledrivers on Valiant for a near fall. With the Louisville crowd chanting him on, Valiant fired back at Sharpe with roundhouse punches. The two-time former Southern champ applied a spinning toehold on Sharpe and forced the New Jersey native to tap. **¾
3) Frank Gotch defeated George South by submission. South was hoping to score his second biggest USWA win and was fired up. He hit a suplex on Gotch for a two-count. South then came off the top rope with a flying body press, but again only got two. South came off another turnbuckle with a double sledge, but Gotch sidestepped him. South landed on his leg and Gotch took him down and immediately slapped on the Gotch Toehold. That was “All she wrote”, as South tapped out. Gotch seemed surprised by South’s skills and shook hands with him afterwards. ½*
4) Cousin Luke managed to defeat rival “Playboy” Buddy Rose by countout. Rose had the early advantage, even hitting the Bombs Away, but Luke was able to get his foot on the bottom ropes. Luke hit a Hillbilly Drop for a two-count. He picked up Rose for a second Drop, but “Sensational” Sherri Martel jumped up on the apron. Luke put Rose down and chased Sherri around the ring. Yet, Luke stayed focused and continued his attack on Rose. He blasted Rose with head butts and went for a cover, but again Sherri got on the apron. Luke went after her outside the ring and picked her up on his shoulders to apparently deliver a Hillbilly Drop to her! But Rose recovered, and stopped the attempt outside the ring. Luke maintained control and threw Rose headfirst into the ringpost, which busted him open. Luke hit another Hillbilly Drop in the ring, but this time Rose got his foot on the ropes. The battle spilled to the floor again. Rose whipped Luke into the guard railing, but Luke reversed it and Rose went up and over the railing in front of the Louisville fans! Luke gave a creepy smile to Sherri, then rolled back in the ring as Paul Neighbors continued the count. Rose was down and couldn’t get back in by 10, so Luke was awarded the match by countout. ***¼
5) The Masked Superstar scored a big win over Bobo Brazil. Superstar used a head butt early in the match, but this one obviously wasn’t loaded, as Brazil shook it off then came back with two Coco Butts of his own. He went for a cover, but only got two. Superstar locked on a sleeper. Bobo went over to the ropes, but the two men tumbled to the arena floor. Brazil got the worse of the landing as he hit his head and came up bleeding. Superstar seized the opportunity, throwing Brazil back in the ring and hitting his dreaded spinning neckbreaker. Brazil kicked out, so Superstar hit a second neckbreaker. Brazil showed great fortitude, as he kicked out again. A third neckbreaker would earn Superstar the pinfall. Bobby “The Brain” Heenan was pleased with Superstar’s victory, especially before his big match next week in Austin against the returning Giant Baba. **½
6) USWA World Tag Team champions The Midnight Express scored another win over The Killer Bees. The Bees tagged in and out in this one, keeping “Loverboy” Dennis Condrey in the ring for long periods of time. The champs were able to employ a similar tactic, when “Jumping” Jim Brunzell was in the ring. The Midnights blasted Brunzell with the Double Goozle three times during the bout! Brunzell was busted open after the third Goozle. Frank Morrell went down, after B. Brian Blair accidentally whipped Condrey into him in the corner. With Morrell down, the champs took advantage. Blair and “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton were brawling on the floor, while Condrey and Brunzell were in the ring. Condrey sent Brunzell into the ropes, where Jim Cornette (wearing his spandex bodysuit for his later match) cracked him in the back with the tennis racket. Eaton gave Blair a bulldog on the floor, taking him out of the match, then stood on the apron, as Morrell was coming to. Condrey tagged out to Eaton and the champs hit the Rocket Launcher on “Jumping” Jim to get the pinfall. ***
7) Southern Heavyweight champ Killer Kowalski pinned “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka in a non-title grudge match. Kowalski showed his aggressive streak early, pounding away on Snuka and particularly the midsection, trying to cause more internal injuries. When Snuka had the advantage, Kowalski smashed him with the Southern title belt at ringside, while Capt. Lou Albano distracted Paul Neighbors. Kowalski applied a stomach claw, but Snuka made it to the ropes. Snuka came back and came off the top with a Superfly Leap, but held his ribs, as the move took its toll on him. He was slow in covering Kowalski, which allowed the big man time to recuperate and kick out. Kowalski came back and applied a second stomach claw. “Superfly” fought for the ropes or for a counter, but the pain was too much and Kowalski was able to pin his shoulders to the mat. **½
8) Bobby “The Brain” Heenan defeated Jim Cornette by DQ in Louisville, but in the end the “Louisville Slugger” looked like more of a winner. The Gardens fans were solidly behind Cornette and Cornette looked like a man fighting for the World Heavyweight title as he put a beating on “The Weasel”. Heenan momentarily had the advantage and for some reason decided to go up to the top rope. But Cornette shook the ropes and Heenan got crotched on the top turnbuckle. Cornette was choking Heenan and Frank Morrell warned Cornette about the action. Cornette decided to go to another illegal tactic and brought the tennis racket into the ring. He smacked Heenan with it and Morrell immediately called for the bell. The Gardens erupted into a chorus of boos! But Cornette seemed more determined to make a statement to Heenan, as he clocked Heenan several times more with the racket! Morrell warned Cornette about it and then he got hit for his troubles! The Midnight Express ran down to try and calm their manager down, but once they did, they celebrated Cornette’s actions. The Gardens chanted for Cornette. The Heenan Family members came down to check on their fallen and beaten manager and help him to the back. **
9) Rikidozan scored another victory over The Destroyer. After some great mat wrestling, Rikidozan picked things up with a hard slap to Destroyer’s chest and a hiplock for a near fall. The Japanese superstar blasted the “Intelligent, Sensational One” with a series of his famous chops and covered him to get a surprisingly quick three-count. **
10) Another Louisvillian competed on this card, as Ed “Strangler” Lewis put the USWA World Heavyweight title on the line in the main event against “Ravishing” Rick Rude. The challenger wore the same tights he did on WMC-TV with the World title airbrushed on them. In his pre-match spiel, Rude mentioned that Bobby Heenan was unable to accompany him for this match, as he was nursing his back from Jim Cornette’s tennis racket shots. Lewis got a huge ovation from his hometown crowd. Even without “The Brain” at ringside, Rude did very well. Not surprisingly, he focused on Lewis’ neck and hit several Rude Awakenings. Lewis fought back and threw Rude down with the Strangler’s Headlock. He clamped it on for several minutes, grinding away and drawing blood on Rude, but couldn’t keep him down for the pin or secure a submission. Lewis went for a full nelson, but Rude grabbed the ropes. Rude came back and took the fight to the floor. He DDT’d Lewis on the arena floor. Rude crawled back into the ring and it looked like he was going to score a countout win. With the Gardens crowd behind him, Lewis managed to get to his feet and crawl back in the ring. He was busted open and held his neck. Rude hit a swinging neckbreaker and went for a cover. He came very close, with Lewis kicking out a 2¾. Lewis fought back and applied a double wristlock in the center of the ring. The Gardens were rooting “Strangler” on. Rude fought hard for the ropes, but with the blood streaming down his face and no way to escape, he tapped out. Jerry Calhoun handed Lewis the belt and the crowd rooted their hometown hero on as he held the USWA championship up high. ****¼

Highlights from USWA Championship Wrestling on June 7: • With Ed “Strangler” Lewis retaining the World Heavyweight title the night before, it is now official—Lewis will defend the championship against Team RPW member Frank Gotch at the Independence Day Bash on July 4 in Texas Stadium. This should be a great scientific main event! • More matches were made the Bash. First of all a big ten-man tag team Elimination Match will take place. Capt. Lou Albano and his men will team up—Southern Heavyweight champion Killer Kowalski, Greg “The Hammer” Valentine, and The Killer B’s. These five men will take on “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka, Yukon Eric, “The Boogie Woogie Man” Jimmy Valiant, and The Killer Bees. • Also another big rivalry will continue as Rikidozan will battle “Ravishing” Rick Rude. Can these two settle their feud in Texas Stadium? • On the last card before Independence Day Bash, a rematch will take place for the USWA Southern Heavyweight championship as Killer Kowalski will defend the gold against The Sheik. Sheik got the win by DQ on May 23 in Lexington. Can he win his third Southern title or will Kowalski put him down?
The City Coliseum in Austin, TX will host a huge card on June 13! • “Dastardly” Danny Doring returns to action. He and “Playboy” Buddy Rose will face “The Birdman” Koko B. Ware and S.D. Jones. Doring is reportedly still feeling the effects of his concussion in April, caused by Ware, Jones, and Cousin Luke, but he is ready to return and is looking for revenge. Can he and Rose gain the win? • Southern Heavyweight champion Killer Kowalski takes on big rival Yukon Eric. While Kowalski is undefeated (in singles matches) thus far in 2008, Eric has struggled as of late. But a win over the champ would get him back on track and give his team momentum heading into the ten-man tag team Elimination Match at Independence Day Bash. Who will win this battle of brutes? • For the first time, Team RPW member Frank Gotch will do battle with “Ravishing” Rick Rude. Gotch is not taking on “easy opponents” prior to his shot at the World title. Can Gotch make Rude tap or will the “Ravishing One” put him down for the count? • Giant Baba returns to USWA action as he takes on long-time foe The Masked Superstar. Baba will battle one masked man before taking on another (The Destroyer) at Independence Day Bash. Will it be the dreaded neckbreaker drop or the dreaded spinning neckbreaker that proves more effective? • Another Team RPW member will be in action as Danny Hodge makes his first defense of the USWA Texas title against the hillbilly Cousin Luke. Because of his countout victory over “Playboy” Buddy Rose, Luke has earned the shot. But how can he do against the technical prowess and intense grip strength of Hodge? And who will the Austin fans support—the hillbilly or the Oklahoman? • The main event will be a rematch for the USWA World Tag Team titles as The Midnight Express put the gold on the line against The Killer B’s! Lance Russell asked Capt. Lou Albano why his men would want to go for another title shot, while both were suffering injuries. Albano stated that his men want to prove their superiority, even when they are not in the best shape. The rubber banded manager claimed they were robbed in their last shot, because of poor officiating. (Referee Paul Morton was knocked down twice during the bout.) The B’s did not appear in the WMC-TV studios, so it unsure as to their physical appearance. Can “Beautiful” Bobby and “Loverboy” Dennis hold on the gold or will The B’s pull off a surprise win? Plus Argentinian sensation Antonino Rocca battles Greg “The Hammer” Valentine, the Syrian madman The Sheik in action, and “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka and “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant team up!

June 13, 2008 Card #171: City Coliseum in Austin
1) “Dastardly” Danny Doring returned to action and emerged victorious with “Playboy” Buddy Rose over “The Birdman” Koko B. Ware and S.D. Jones in the opener. Rose actually did most of the work. He hit a Bombs Away on Ware, but Jones broke it up with a head butt, momentarily giving his team the advantage. Rose hit Jones with a gut wrench backbreaker. Doring tagged in and hit his only move of the bout, a Panty Drop Elbow. That one move was all he needed to pick up the win for him and the “Playboy”. * 2) The Sheik defeated Brad Armstrong by submission. The Georgian had the crowd behind him and had a few brief moments of offense in this one. Abdullah Farouk’s charge was focused prior to his rematch for the Southern Heavyweight title. After using his sharp object on Armstrong, Sheik locked on the Camel Clutch a few minutes later to get the win. ½*
3) Former enemies teamed up for the first time, as “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka and “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant defeated George South and Larry Sharpe. The two wild fan favorites worked well together. Valiant had South down in a spinning toehold, which brought him victory over Sharpe last week. Knowing that, Sharpe saved South from a possible submission. Valiant got the submission after all with an abdominal stretch. **¼
4) Southern Heavyweight champion Killer Kowalski continued to dominate, getting another win over Yukon Eric. The Alaskan continues to show determination, wanting to get a one-on-one pin or submission win over the man who ripped off his ear. But the champ is more focused than ever. He applied the stomach claw twice, but both times Eric was able to get to the ropes. Eric got a close fall after bouncing out of the corner with a big shoulder tackle. Kowalski busted Eric open with a Bombs Away. He went up to the second rope and came off with a stomp to the stomach. The stomp was enough to put Eric down for the count. *** 5) Coming off a big win over The Destroyer two cards ago, Dan “The Beast” Severn kept up his momentum with a win over King Kong Bundy. The New Jersey giant tried to use his size and strength to beat the former Southern Heavyweight champ, utilizing a bear hug on more than one occasion. “The Beast” showcased his own power, actually hitting a German suplex on Bundy, which brought the crowd to its feet! Severn shot in a half and went for a cover, but Bundy managed to kick out. Severn locked on a choke sleeper and forced Bundy to tap. **½
6) Greg “The Hammer” Valentine scored a huge win, giving Antonino Rocca his first USWA loss. The Argentinian sensation started off on fire, using his unorthodox offense to dazzle Valentine. Valentine came back and brutalized Rocca, gaining near falls after a neckbreaker and shoulder breaker respectively. “The Hammer” took the bout to the floor and picked up Rocca in a kneebreaker position, but instead rammed Rocca’s leg into the ringpost. Valentine threw Rocca back in the ring and slapped on the figure-four. Rocca would not quit, but the pain in his leg weakened him enough that Valentine was able to pin his shoulders to the mat for the count of three. ***¼
7) “Ravishing” Rick Rude scored a big win, defeating Frank Gotch, although by very controversial means. Gotch went for the toehold early, but Bobby Heenan jumped up on the apron to distract Paul Morton. This tactic worked, as it allowed Rude to get back in control and focus his attack on Gotch’s neck, naturally for the Rude Awakening, which he used three times during the bout. Rude busted Gotch open, but the Iowan made a comeback. The two ended up on the floor and Gotch caught a charging Rude with a fireman’s carry slam. Gotch wanting to get a “clean” win, pulled Rude back into the ring, rather than taking a countout victory. Gotch went for the toehold again and it looked like Rude was trapped. Morton watched as Rude had his arm raised like he might tap, but hadn’t yet. Suddenly the bell sounded. Morton, Gotch, and Dick Hutton looked around. Morton claimed he didn’t call for the bell. Gary Michael Cappetta pointed to Heenan. Heenan acted innocent, but then claimed he did it, saying he thought Rude had tapped out and “The Brain” was trying to help out, relieving Rude of further pain. Since Rude didn’t tap, Morton ruled the bout must continue. Obviously Heenan had a plan up his sleeve as Rude recovered, but was hardly able to stand from the Gotch Toehold. Still Rude hit Gotch with a low blow, while Morton was still distracted from the ringside antics. Rude then hit another Rude Awakening to put Gotch down for the count. Hutton protested the decision and the Austin fans were definitely not happy about what went down! But the decision stood. ****
8) Giant Baba returned with a vengeance and got a somewhat symbolic countout win over rival The Masked Superstar. Baba was fired up here and the Austin crowd gave him a deserved response. Baba nailed Superstar with one of his patented chops for a near fall early on. Baba utilized the Russian leg sweep twice and after the second sweep had a pin attempt, but Bobby Heenan once again got involved and put Superstar’s foot on the bottom rope. Baba looked angered at “The Brain”, but stayed focused. Superstar hit a Superstar clothesline out of nowhere, which is the same as Baba’s dreaded neckbreaker drop. Superstar looked confident, but suddenly Baba stood up and showed no effects from the clothesline! He went back to work on Superstar and the battle spilled to the floor. Heenan tried to get involved, but got blasted with a Baba chop. Baba then nailed the neckbreaker drop on Superstar outside the ring. Baba climbed back in and beat the count, but Superstar did not. Since Superstar put Baba out of action with his spinning neckbreaker on the floor, it was quite fitting that Baba won in this way. The “Intelligent, Sensational” Destroyer was not present, since he did not have a match scheduled for this card. Some fans wondered if Destroyer was avoiding Baba prior to the Independence Day Bash. ***¼
9) Danny Hodge retained the USWA Texas championship in a surprisingly competitive bout against Cousin Luke. Prior to the bout, “Playboy” Buddy Rose and “Sensational” Sherri Martel came down to ringside. Rose grabbed the microphone and said he wasn’t there to cause trouble for Luke, but that he wanted to challenge the winner to a Texas title match at Independence Day Bash at Texas Stadium. Rose and Sherri sat ringside with Lance Russell and Dave Brown. Luke was focused here, knowing this was his first USWA championship opportunity. Luke hit a Hillbilly Drop early for a nearfall. He came off the top rope with a splash for another near fall. Hodge came back and hit the Oklahoma side roll, but rolled Luke too close to the ropes. Luke came back and landed a double fisted sledgehammer, but Hodge got his foot on the ropes. Hodge came back and landed a standing dropkick, then tried to get a submission with the Indian Deathlock. But Luke fought hard and got to the ropes. Luke came back and was determined to get the win. He whipped Hodge into the corner and followed up with a running charge. But Hodge with his great prowess, leapt up and over Luke, and then rolled him with a modified sunset flip. He was able to hold the hillbilly down for the three-count. The crowd favored Luke throughout the bout, due to Hodge’s Oklahoman status. Luke was frustrated but actually offered his hand to Hodge and Dick Hutton afterwards. The Oklahomans accepted and shook Luke’s hand. Hodge looked towards Rose at ringside afterwards, symbolizing that he was the next challenger on the 4th of July. ***½
10) The Midnight Express put the USWA World Tag Team titles on the line against The Killer B’s in the main event. Capt. Lou Albano brought out his men. Brutus Beefcake wore a hard plastic protective mask over his broken nose, while Buff Bagwell wore a typical wrestling mask to protect his broken orbital bone. The mask had “Buff Daddy” written on it and Buff wore his sunglasses over it on the way to the ring. It looked like it would be a total dominant performance by the champs, due to the challengers’ injuries. The Midnights targeted the challengers’ injuries, even taking Brutus’ mask off. “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton pulled out his famous right hands on both B’s. Eaton hit a top rope elbow drop on Bagwell and went for a cover, but Capt. Lou Albano distracted Tommy Gilbert. Albano specifically requested to the USWA Committee ahead of time that Paul Morton not be the official, because of the last title bout between the teams. It looked like lightning would strike twice, as “Buff Daddy “nearly collided with Gilbert, but the collision was avoided. The Midnights hit the Double Goozle on Bagwell, and his mask appeared to be sporting blood stains. The B’s came back and capitalized on an error by “Loverboy” Dennis Condrey. Eaton tagged in, but got hit by the Buff Blockbuster. Beefcake tagged in and smashed Eaton with the flying knee smash, but only got two. The Midnights appeared to have a weakened Bagwell beaten after an elbow slingshot to his face, but as Gilbert was getting “Beautiful” Bobby out of the ring, Beefcake snuck in with his protective mask back in tact and head butted Condrey with it. Beefcake rammed Condrey into the ringpost on the floor. The “Loverboy” was almost counted out, but rolled back into the ring just in time. With Condrey dazed, Beefcake locked on a sleeper. “Loverboy” Dennis was going down, so Jim Cornette jumped on the apron to distract Gilbert. This allowed Eaton to drag Beefcake and Condrey into the ropes. Gilbert saw that and Beefcake had to release. Condrey looked down and out and it looked like new champs were going to be miraculously crowned. Beefcake tagged out to Bagwell and The B’s went to double team Condrey. Bagwell held Condrey while Beefcake went for a clothesline with his studded armband. While Beefcake bounced off the ropes, Eaton snuck around and grabbed Bagwell’s leg from the outside, causing him to release. Condrey ducked and Bagwell got decked with the armband. Eaton took Beefcake out of the ring. Condrey recovered and tagged out to Eaton and the champs immediately hit the Rocket Launcher on a downed Bagwell. “Beautiful” Bobby made the cover and got the three in an awesome match! *****

Highlights from the June 14 edition of USWA Championship Wrestling: • More matches were made for the Independence Day Bash at the Texas Stadium! After the previous night’s card, it is official, Team RPW member Danny Hodge will defend the USWA Texas title against “Playboy” Buddy Rose. Rose reminded Lance Russell on WMC-TV that he captured his first USWA World Heavyweight championship from Nick Bockwinkel in Dallas in 2005, and that he feels the Lone Star State will be good to him again. Will the fans root for the “Playboy” or the Oklahoman in this one? • A huge rivalry will continue as Rikidozan battles “Ravishing” Rick Rude. Rude has definitely made himself a hated wrestler, not only due to his arrogance, but his dastardly ways, especially his controversial win over Frank Gotch. It’s a good assumption that this bout will have ramifications on the USWA championship picture. • One of the wildest feuds will get even wilder as Bobo Brazil takes on The Sheik in a No-Disqualification Match. Will a No-DQ stipulation be enough for these two wild brawlers? • In a special attraction, WWC Universal Heavyweight champion from Puerto Rico Carlos Colon will team up with CWC Dominican Heavyweight champion Jack Veneno to battle the New Mexican duo of Black Gordman and Great Goliath. Gordman and Goliath are a hated team in the WWA promotion in the Los Angeles, where they have held the America’s Tag Team championship on several occasions. Long-time USWA fans will remember Colon and Veneno from the USWA’s Carnaval de Dolor tour of the Dominican Republic in 2006. This should be an interesting tag team match-up! • Also, Capt. Lou Albano will be adding a new wrestler to his stable. Former WWF Intercontinental champion Magnificent Muraco will be wrestling his first USWA match. Albano stated that due to the “betrayal” of Jimmy Valiant, he is bringing in Muraco to gain revenge on Valiant, Jimmy Snuka, and anyone else who gets in his way!
Right before Independence Day and the Bash, the USWA comes home to Memphis and the Mid-South Coliseum! • World Tag Team champions The Midnight Express will clash with Team RPW’s Oklahomans Dick Hutton and Texas champion Danny Hodge. The champs’ only pinfall loss this year was to Hutton and Hodge in February in Nashville, but The Express hold two wins over Hutton and Hodge. Who will win in this meeting? • In another big tag team bout and a prelude to the ten-man tag team Elimination Match on July 4, Capt. Lou Albano’s Killer B’s will face “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka and “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant. Snuka and Valiant worked well together in their first bout, but how will they do against an established team like The B’s? • World title challenger Frank Gotch will take on another tough opponent in The “Intelligent, Sensational” Destroyer. Gotch was fuming after his controversial loss to “Ravishing” Rick Rude. Destroyer is taking on a tough opponent as well prior to his bout with Giant Baba on the 4th. Will the Gotch Toehold or the figure-four leglock prove to be superior? • Speaking of Giant Baba, he and his mentor Rikidozan will take on the former World Tag Team champions The Masked Superstar and King Kong Bundy. Baba was said to be happy with his win over Superstar, but you can bet a pin or submission win over Superstar, and in a tag team match, would make him even happier. Will it be the Japanese contingent or The Heenan Family walking out with the win? • The main event is guaranteed to be another interesting bout as Southern Heavyweight champion Killer Kowalski defends against The Sheik. The last time these two met it was a bloody brawl, with Sheik coming out the winner via DQ. But Kowalski has not lost a singles bout by pin or submission this year. Which vile rulebreaker will emerge the king of the South? Also, for the first time Bobo Brazil battles “Ravishing” Rick Rude. Plus Dan “The Beast” Severn in action and Capt. Lou Albano competes in a singles bout prior to the big ten-man tag team Elimination Match.

June 20, 2008 Card #172: Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis
1) Capt. Lou Albano was hoping to showcase his wrestling “skills” in the opener against S.D. Jones, but “Special Delivery” spoiled his plans, getting a DQ win. Philadelphia’s “Greatest Son” showed that he didn’t want to be taken lightly and took it to the manager early on. The Killer B’s ran down to encourage the Captain. Jones picked up the rotund manager and delivered a big power body slam, then went for a cover. As Sam Platania went to count, Brutus Beefcake jumped in and nailed Jones with a knee drop. Platania called the bell. The B’s continued their attack with Beefcake delivering a head butt with his protective mask. The Killer Bees ran down to run off their foes and help Jones up. DUD
2) Dan Severn scored a quick victory over George South. “The Beast” used his technical wrestling prowess to control South. Severn threw South with a fireman’s carry slam, then floated over into a cover, with a half nelson cinched in, and pinned South’s shoulders down. DUD
3) In the first of two “preview” matches for the 10-man tag team elimination match at Independence Day Bash, Greg “The Hammer” Valentine got a countout win over “Jumping” Jim Brunzell. Capt. Lou Albano did not accompany Valentine to the ring, as he was apparently recovering from his own earlier bout. “The Hammer” focused his attack on Brunzell’s legs, both to weaken him for the figure-four leglock and also to try and take away Brunzell’s dropkick. The Killer Bee was able to hit the dropkick twice, but it took a lot out of him. The crowd was behind Brunzell and he looked like he might get a big singles win. Brunzell made a mistake in attempting another dropkick, as Valentine dogged it and Brunzell got hung up in the ring ropes, then crashed to the arena floor. Brunzell’s legs were hurt and he was unable to get back in the ring by the 10-count. ***¼
4) “Playboy” Buddy Rose & “Dastardly” Danny Doring defeated Cousin Luke & Koko B. Ware. The rulebreaking tag team worked over “The Birdman” early on. Rose hit a Bombs Away, but Luke saved his partner, allowing Ware to take over. Ware hit the Ghosbuster, but Rose got his foot on the ropes. Luke tagged in and worked over his rival, hitting the Hillbilly Drop, but only got a two-count. Luke took the battle to the floor and was almost clocked from behind by “Sensational” Sherri Martel and her purse, but the hillbilly wisely sense she was coming and chased her away. Luke and Ware went for a double clothesline on Rose, but Luke got tripped by Sherri from the outside. The distraction allowed Rose to recover and tag out to Doring. The “Dastardly One” hit the G-Spot Sweep on Koko to score the pinfall. ***½
5) “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka & “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant got some momentum for their team scoring a big win over The Killer B’s. Capt. Lou Albano was able to accompany The B’s to the ring for this important bout. Despite the fact that The B’s have more time teaming together, Snuka and Valiant were able to work well against them. Of course The B’s’ were both wrestling with injuries. Brutus Beefcake hit Valiant with his flying knee smash, but only got a two-count. Snuka hit a Superfly Leap on Buff Bagwell later in the bout, but Bagwell managed to get a foot on the bottom rope. “The Boogie Woogie Man” went up to the top rope and came off with a big elbow drop on Bagwell, but Beefcake made the save. Valiant worked over Beefcake, then tagged out to Snuka. Snuka came off the top again with a big Superfly Leap. Valiant kept Bagwell at bay, while his partner scored the pinfall. ***¾
6) In a first time meeting, “Ravishing” Rick Rude got a big win over Bobo Brazil. This was a back-and-forth bout. Rude got busted open after several Coco Butts. Brazil went for a cover after two Coco Butts, but Rude got his foot on the bottom rope. The “Ravishing One” came back after Bobo missed a big splash. He focused on the neck, utilizing the swinging neckbreaker and the piledriver. Rude hit a clothesline then followed up with the Rude Awakening to score the win. ****
7) World Tag Team champions The Midnight Express got an impressive win over Dick Hutton and Texas champ Danny Hodge. The Oklahomans had some early momentum, but “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton caught Hodge in a small package for a near fall, and it was The Midnights from there. “Loverboy” Dennis Condrey tagged in and they hit the Double Goozle. Hodge kicked out of the Midnight Massacre, but then Condrey put him down with the face-first leg sweep. Eaton kept Hutton at bay, while Condrey scored the pin, giving Hodge a rare pinfall loss. *¼
8) Rikidozan & Giant Baba defeated The Masked Superstar & King Kong Bundy in a very competitive tag team match. Former World champ Rikidozan pounded away on the big Bundy early on. Rivals Superstar and Baba got in and pounded away on each other. The Heenan Family team tagged in and worked over Baba. Rikidozan came in and locked Bundy in a Boston Crab, but Superstar broke it up with a clothesline. Rikidozan got up and went after the masked one, but Bundy recovered and blasted Rikidozan with an Avalanche from behind. Bundy went for the cover, but Rikidozan kicked out. Baba came in and hit the dreaded neckbreaker drop on Superstar, which drew a big pop from the crowd. He went for a cover, but Bundy broke it up. Rikidozan came in too, but Tom Branch cut him off. While Branch was trying to get him out of the ring, Bobby Heenan pulled an object out of his jacket and tossed it to Superstar, who not surprisingly loaded his mask with it. Superstar head butted Baba and went for a cover, but Rikidozan quickly made the save. Baba came up bleeding from the smash, but was able to tag out. Rikidozan hit Bundy with a flying head scissors. “The Brain” jumped up on the ring apron, but got knocked down with a chop. Rikidozan then threw Bundy down with a modified hiplock and turned into a cover to score the three in a hard-fought match. ****½
9) Frank Gotch had another bad bout, prior to challenging for the USWA World Heavyweight title, as he lost a controversial bout to The “Intelligent, Sensational” Destroyer. After his loss to “Ravishing” Rick Rude last week in Austin, due to Bobby Heenan’s involvement, Gotch was hoping to rebound with a win. He and Destroyer started off the bout with some great scientific wrestling. Both men worked over the other’s leg throughout the bout, trying to wear the other down for their respective leg submission finishers. Destroyer applied the figure-four midway through the bout, but Gotch fought and got to the ropes. Gotch came back and locked on the Gotch Toehold. Destroyer tried to roll out of it and almost did, but Gotch held on and turned it into a knee bar instead. The masked man eventually got to the ropes. Destroyer got a near fall after a backslide, and then applied the single leg Boston Crab to continue to work Gotch’s leg. Gotch came back and knocked Destroyer out of the ring. Destroyer pulled Gotch out and the two traded fists. Destroyer took out Gotch’s leg with a chop block. Dick Hutton came around to yell at the tactic, which diverted Kevin Christian’s attention away from the action. This allowed Destroyer to grab a steel chair and smash Gotch’s already hurt leg with it. Destroyer threw Gotch back in the ring and again applied the figure-four. Gotch was writhing in pain in the center of the ring and was left with no choice but to tap out. The Mid-South Coliseum was not happy with this and Hutton protested to Christian but to no avail. Danny Hodge and Dan Severn came down to help their teammate to the back, while Destroyer gloated about his win. ****¼
10) Killer Kowalski put the USWA Southern Heavyweight title on the line in the main event in a rematch against The Sheik. Last month, Sheik got the victory over the champ by DQ, when Kowalski choked him with Gary Michael Cappetta’s microphone chord. This time, the challenger wouldn’t let Cappetta finish his ring introduction, as he jumped Kowalski before the bell and immediately pulled out the sharp object. He jabbed away at Kowalski. Tom Branch noticed Sheik using the object and tried to get it away from him, but got shoved down for his efforts. Branch was left with no choice but to disqualify Sheik immediately. The Memphis fans weren’t happy about such a short main event. Greg Valentine and The Killer B’s ran down to get The Sheik off their teammate. Kowalski suffered no major injuries in the attack. neg*

From opening match to the main event, here’s the full lineup for the big Independence Day Bash coming to you on July 4 from Texas Stadium in Irving!
Magnificent Muraco vs. S.D. Jones—The former WWF Intercontinental champ will make his USWA debut against a worthy adversary in “Special Delivery”. With Capt. Lou Albano get embarrassed by Jones on the last card, you can bet Albano is even more fired up to see the Hawaiian Muraco get payback against S.D. Will Muraco get his first USWA victory in Texas Stadium?
Antonino Rocca vs. George South—The Argentinian sensation lost his first USWA match to Greg Valentine on June 13 in Austin. Rocca is looking to get back on track. Although he has just competed to this point on USWA cards in Texas, rumors have circulated that Rocca may begin competing in other USWA cities and challenge for titles. Can he defeat South and get back on the winning side?
Dan Severn vs. The Masked Superstar—This match was made on USWA Championship Wrestling on June 21. Severn has gotten some impressive wins lately, namely over The Destroyer and Superstar’s tag team partner King Kong Bundy. Can he keep things up against the Superstar?
Carlos Colon & Jack Veneno vs. Black Gordman & Great Goliath (Special Attraction)—The WWC Universal Heavyweight champ teams up with the CWC Dominican Heavyweight champ to take on the former WWA America’s Tag Team champions. Colon and Veneno are said to not like the way that Gordman and Goliath downplay their Latino heritage. Although Colon and Veneno have had more singles success, they don’t have the team experience that Gordman and Goliath do. Will it be the Puerto Rican-Dominican combo or the New Mexicans achieving victory?
Bobo Brazil vs. The Sheik (No-Disqualification Match)—This long-time feud continues with the guarantee of a pinfall or submission victory. Brazil is one of four men in USWA history to score a pin or submission on The Sheik. Can he do it again or will The Sheik carve himself a win over Bobo?
Rikidozan vs. Rick Rude—Rude holds two wins over the former USWA World Heavyweight champion. Bobby “The Brain” Heenan has made noise that the “Ravishing One” wants another championship opportunity. But you can bet that Rikidozan feels the same way. This bout will have big ramifications for the title picture!
Capt. Lou Albano, Killer Kowalski, Greg Valentine, & The Killer B’s vs. Jimmy Snuka, Jimmy Valiant, Yukon Eric, & The Killer Bees (Elimination Tag Team Match)—So many feuds are intertwined into one big match. Eric will be targeting Southern champ Kowalski. Snuka will have his sights set on both Valentine and Kowalski. The Bees-B’s will certainly clash in some form. And you can bet that Valiant would love to get his hands on his former manager. (Probably all of his team would like to!) Albano stated that his team is more “united”, while Snuka’s team is made up of a bunch of random goofballs. Which team will survive?
Danny Hodge vs. Buddy Rose (USWA Texas championship)—It’s the Oklahoman vs. the “Playboy”. Rose wants to make history and become the first man to hold the USWA World Heavyweight and Texas titles. He captured his first title in Dallas and hopes that the Lone Star State will bring him luck again. Hodge suffered a rare pin loss in the tag team match on the last card. Will it affect him prior to his defense?
Giant Baba vs. The Destroyer—Two former World Tag Team championship partners have become enemies. Destroyer took Bobby Heenan’s bounty money back in February to attack “Strangler” Lewis, and in doing so, betrayed Rikidozan and Baba. Then, to make matters worse, the “Intelligent, Sensational One” used part of the money to hire Abdullah the Butcher to go after Baba in All Japan. When Baba gets angry, you better watch out!
Ed “Strangler” Lewis vs. Frank Gotch (USWA World Heavyweight championship)—The main event should be a great scientific matchup. This will be Gotch’s first shot at the World title in about two years. He’s hoping to make history, by being the first “Triple Crown” winner (the only wrestler to hold the World Heavyweight, World Tag Team, and Southern titles). The challenger has lost his last two bouts by devious means. Will this have an impact on him in the title bout?
That’s the Independence Day Bash—coming your way on Independence Day from Texas Stadium!

Thanks to Capt. Cold and CPB for the predictions!
July 4, 2008 USWA Independence Day Bash Card #173: Texas Stadium in Irving
1) Capt. Lou Albano’s newest charge Magnificent Muraco had a tough challenge in his debut against “Special Delivery” Jones, but emerged the victor by countout. It appeared as if the Hawaiian native may have underestimated S.D., as Jones gave him some anxious moments. But Muraco regained control and took the match to the floor. Muraco picked up Jones and delivered a tombstone piledriver, which he calls the Hawaiian Hammer, on the floor. He crawled back in the ring, while Kevin Christian counted Jones out. Koko B. Ware and Cousin Luke came down to check on Jones afterwards, but thankfully S.D. suffered no major injuries. **¼
2) Antonino Rocca quickly defeated George South. “Argentina” Rocca dazzled South with his offense, like his flying head scissors. But it was his patented Argentinian backbreaker that would earn him a submission victory. DUD
3) Dan “The Beast” Severn scored a submission win over The Masked Superstar. Superstar used both the spinning neckbreaker and the Cobra Hold, as well as a big head butt, but couldn’t keep the former Southern champ down. Severn used his fireman’s carry slam five times during the bout, and once dropped Superstar on his head, which caused blood to come out the starred mask of the Superstar. Severn applied the wakigatame twice, but Superstar made the ropes. Severn applied a choke sleeper from behind on the bloodied and tired Superstar and got the tap out. ***¾ 4) In a special attraction, WWC Universal Heavyweight champion Carlos Colon and CWC Dominican Heavyweight champion Jack Veneno defeated Black Gordman and The Great Goliath. Gordman and Goliath used their tagging experience early on, frequently tagging in and out. Goliath locked Colon in his Camel Clutch, which he calls La de al caballo. Colon managed to reach the ropes. Veneno tagged in and used Colon’s specialty the figure-four leglock on Goliath. Veneno later locked Gordman in his La Polemica (a sleeperhold), but Gordman made the ropes. Ironically Colon would use the sleeper to put Goliath out and gain the victory. **
5) Bobo Brazil pinned The Sheik in a wild No-Disqualification Match, that saw both combatants bleed buckets. Sheik utilized his sharp object early on, since it was totally legal in this match. He went for the Camel Clutch, using the object for extra help and eventually busting Brazil open. Brazil fought back and used his best weapon—the Coco Butt several times, causing Sheik to bleed as well. Brazil hit one Coco Butt and Abdullah Farouk jumped up on the apron, but Bobo gave him a Coco Butt as well. Brazil went for a Coco Butt in the corner, but Sheik dodged it and Brazil hit his head hard on the turnbuckle. Both men tried a new tactic and worked on the other’s arm. Brazil slammed Sheik’s arm into the ring post and went for a hammerlock, but Sheik got to the ropes. Sheik took over outside the ring and smacked Brazil’s arm with a chair, then jabbed it with the sharp object. Sheik applied his own hammerlock, but Brazil managed to get out. Sheik went back to the Camel Clutch and with the blood oozing out of Brazil’s forehead, he was weakening and looked like he was out. But with the Texas Stadium crowd behind him, Brazil rallied back and grabbed the ropes. Since he couldn’t be disqualified, Sheik kept the hold on, yet at the same time he would have been unable to score a victory, had Brazil submitted. Bobo rolled into the ropes and both men tumbled to the floor again. Sheik charged at him with the sharp object, but Brazil blocked it and then used the object on The Sheik! He then tossed his rival back into the ring and nailed him with another Coco Butt. Brazil went for the cover and finally got the pin. The Texas fans erupted in cheers! ***** (NOTE: Brazil had nine tokens on him, while Sheik had seven. Awesome match!)
6) Rikidozan pinned “Ravishing” Rick Rude. The “Ravishing One” had control early, but couldn’t keep the Japanese superstar down long enough to attempt a pin. Rikiodozan utilized his hiplock several times during the bout. Bobby “The Brain” Heenan jumped up on the ring apron at one point, only to get chopped down by Rikidozan. With “The Weasel” taken out of the match, Rikidozan threw Rude with another hiplock, then turned into a cover to score the pinfall. **½
7) Capt. Lou Albano, Southern Heavyweight champion Killer Kowalski, Greg “The Hammer” Valentine, and The Killer B’s emerged the victors in a ten-man Elimination Tag Team Match over “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka, “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant, Yukon Eric, and The Killer Bees. The match went about 10 minutes before a wrestler was eliminated. Brutus Beefcake was no longer sporting his protective face mask, but Buff Bagwell still wore his. Bagwell got whipped into the turnbuckle by B. Brian Blair, but jumped up to the second turnbuckle and came back at Blair with the Buff Blockbuster. Bagwell went for a cover, but “Jumping” Jim Brunzell was close enough to save his partner. Rivals Eric and Kowalski went at it, with each man applying their finisher, but unable to score the submission. Eric clocked Beefcake with his ax-handle, while Tom Branch was distracted by wrestlers in the ring. Captain Lou actually got in, but got caught in the Kodiak Krunch. Valentine and Beefcake were able to pull their manager to the ropes, unseen by Branch. Blair came in and locked Albano in the sleeper, but Bagwell saved Albano. The rubber banded manager got away and tagged out. Kowalski and Brunzell were in and the Southern champ nailed Brunzell with several knees to the midsection, softening him up for the stomach claw. The champ went up to the top rope and came off with a double sledge, but in an amazing move, “Jumping” Jim saw Kowalski coming and killed Kowalski with a dropkick right to the face. Brunzell made a cover and scored a somewhat surprising three-count, eliminating the Southern champ first! The Texas Stadium crowd erupted in cheers. Brunzell had little time to celebrate the upset, as “The Hammer” came in and immediately went after him. Brunzell hit another dropkick and went for a pin, but Albano and Bagwell jumped in the ring. They were cut off by their opponents and while Branch tried to maintain order, Beefcake came in and dropped a knee on Brunzell, then turned the “pile” over, putting Valentine on top. Branch turned around to count, but Brunzell kicked out. Bagwell tagged in, but got caught in a small package for a near fall. Brunzell used his partner’s Blair’s specialty—the sleeper on Bagwell to make the second elimination and give the fan favorites a five-to-two advantage. Beefcake jumped on Brunzell right away in the next fall, but also got caught with a school boy roll-up after a missed knee smash in the corner. Beefcake was able to kick out. Valentine and “The Boogie Woogie Man” went at it and “The Hammer” got the advantage. He applied the figure-four leglock to Valiant and got the tap out. Beefcake hit the flying knee smash on Blair in the next fall, but Blair kicked out. Beefcake hit a second knee smash, but as he landed got blasted by Brunzell with a dropkick in the corner, while Branch was distracted by Valentine and Albano in the other corner. Blair went for a cover, but Beefcake managed to kick out. Beefcake smashed Blair in the head with a chair, busting him open. Beefcake tagged out to “The Hammer”. Valentine looked impressive getting a second figure-four submission on Blair, and making it a three-on-three match. Snuka came in and went after Valentine, wanting revenge for the injury that Valentine and Kowalski did to him a couple of months ago. During this fall, Magnificent Muraco came down to ringside. “The Hammer” came off the top rope with a sledge to Snuka, but Snuka sidestepped him and nailed him with a big chop. He went for a cover, but Muraco grabbed Snuka’s leg from outside the ring. Snuka stared at him with a “look of death”. Snuka and Muraco feuded in the WWF some years back, prior to the formation of the USWA, so the “Superfly” is very familiar with the Hawaiian. Snuka dove over the top rope with a plancha and pounded away on him. Since Snuka was the legal man, Branch counted him out of the ring. Once Snuka was eliminated, Snuka and Muraco brawled back to the locker room. After several minutes of tagging in and out on both sides (other than Albano hiding in the corner), Eric picked up a bloody Valentine in the Kodiak Krunch. Albano started coming in, but so did Brunzell to cut him off. While Branch separated the two, Beefcake clipped Eric’s leg, causing him to drop the backbreaker. “The Hammer” applied the figure-four and scored his third submission elimination. It was now “Jumping” Jim against three—Valentine, Beefcake, and Albano. The rulebreakers took advantage of the numbers situation and bent the rules, beating on Brunzell outside the ring. Beefcake threw Brunzell into the ringpost and then Albano pulled out a foreign object and decked him. Brunzell came up wearing the “crimson mask”. B. Brian Blair came back down to ringside, with his head taped up and limping from the figure-four. He rooted on his partner and tried to point out Albano’s foreign object to Branch. Branch wouldn’t listen. Beefcake hit Brunzell with a running stomp and went for a cover, but an angry Blair jumped in the ring and broke up the pin attempt. Since Blair had already been eliminated, Brunzell was disqualified, leaving Albano, Valentine, and Beefcake as the survivors for their team and the winners. ****¼
8) “Playboy” Buddy Rose made history becoming the first man to win the USWA World Heavyweight and now Texas titles, by quickly defeating Danny Hodge. Rose charged Hodge right at the bell and took the fight to the floor. He executed a big DDT on the floor on Hodge. Rose threw Hodge back into the ring and came off the top rope with the Bombs Away. Hodge managed to kick out. Rose took the fight outside the ring and executed a brainbuster on the floor to the already weakened Hodge. The “Playboy” took Hodge back in the ring and hit a second Bombs Away to get the three-count and the gold. Dick Hutton checked on Hodge afterwards, but it appeared Hodge suffered no major injuries. “Dastardly” Danny Doring came down to ringside and joined Rose and “Sensational” Sherri Martel in celebrating. This was actually Hodge’s first pinfall loss in a one-on-one bout. DUD
9) Former tag team partners did battle for the first time in a USWA ring. The “Intelligent, Sensational” Destroyer defeated Giant Baba by DQ. The two exchanged mat wrestling holds early on, but the action picked up, as the masked man began to stomp on Baba’s leg. He applied the single leg Boston Crab, then went for his figure-four leglock. He held Baba in it for over a minute, but the big man made it to the ropes. He came up limping and Destroyer went to attack his leg again. Baba cut him off and blasted him with chops. The giant was fired up and trapped Destroyer in a corner, then unleashed a barrage of chops. Kevin Christian warned Baba about not letting Destroyer out of the corner. Baba’s response to Christian was to give him a chop as well! Christian went down, but was alert enough to call for the bell, disqualifying Baba. The giant didn’t seem to care as he continued to pound away on Destroyer. Bobby Heenan ran down to ringside with The Masked Superstar and King Kong Bundy. The former World Tag Team champions jumped Baba from behind. Superstar laid him out with the spinning neckbreaker, then he and Destroyer held Baba down, while the New Jersey giant delivered a big splash to Baba, actually targeting the weakened leg. Bundy delivered two more splashes, then Destroyer applied the figure-four, punishing the leg. While he held Baba down, Superstar grabbed Baba’s arms and Bundy delivered yet another splash. Rikidozan finally came down to ringside to save his teammate, but the damage had been done. Baba suffered a leg injury and will be out of action for at least a few weeks. Baba was unable to stand and an extra large stretcher had to be brought out to wheel him to the back. *½
10) After an intermission, the main event was on. Two of the greatest pure wrestlers in the USWA met, as Ed “Strangler” Lewis put the World Heavyweight title on the line against Frank Gotch. The two shook hands before the bout began in a show of respect. The two grapplers started off at a slow pace. Lewis actually tried a leg submission of his own to counter the Gotch Toehold, as he utilized a single leg Boston Crab in the first ten minutes of the bout. The “Strangler” must have picked the move up from his recent battles with The Destroyer. Gotch applied a knee bar to try and weaken Lewis for the toehold. At one point, the two wrestlers went to the floor, when Lewis tried a double leg takedown near the ropes and both men fell through the ropes. They did not brawl on the floor, but got back in the ring as quickly as they could recover to continue the bout. The Texas Stadium applauded this action. Lewis applied his full nelson several times throughout the match, then went for the Strangler’s Headlock. Gotch survived the move, but came up bleeding after one headlock. Still the challenger would not quit as he applied the crossface and bar arm for nearly two minutes on the champ. Somehow Lewis managed to hang on and get to the ropes for the break. The crowd was divided in its support of the two greats. Lewis would fight back again and throw Gotch to the mat with another headlock. He held it on tight and with blood coming down his face, Gotch was weakened, and Lewis was able to pin his shoulders to the mat to win the bout and retain the World title. Lewis helped Gotch to his feet afterwards, then offered his hand to Gotch and coach Dick Hutton. The Team RPW members accepted and the crowd applauded the sportsmanship between the two. ***¾

Highlights from USWA Championship Wrestling on July 5: • A couple of upcoming title bouts were announced during the show. As a result of scoring a pinfall on Southern Heavyweight champ Killer Kowalski in the 10-man tag team Elimination Match at the Independence Day Bash, “Jumping” Jim Brunzell will challenge Kowalski for the title on July 25 in Evansville. This will be Brunzell’s first opportunity at the Southern title. • Prior to defending the title against Brunzell, Kowalski will face a former Southern champion, The Sheik, in a return grudge bout on July 18 in Knoxville. Capt. Lou Albano stated that Kowalski will make short work of the Syrian madman who jumped Kowalski before the bell in their title bout in June. • It was also announced that Dan “The Beast” Severn will be the next challenge for Ed “Strangler” Lewis’ USWA World Heavyweight championship. That bout will take place on August 15 at the Rupp Arena in Lexington. Lance Russell interviewed all of Team RPW. Frank Gotch complimented Lewis’ pure wrestling skills and said that it was a great showcase of American wrestling on the 4th of July. Gotch said that Lewis would be a great addition to Team RPW and made the champ an offer to join them! Coach Dick Hutton said that they would give Lewis time to think about it. Danny Hodge stated that he was ambushed by “Playboy” Buddy Rose at the Bash. The Oklahoman said he wasn’t going to whine about it, but he did want a rematch with Rose down the line. • Also, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan announced that on the July 12 edition of Championship Wrestling, he will have an update on four-time USWA World Heavyweight champion Nick Bockwinkel. Bockwinkel has been out of action since New Year’s Knockout, after suffering a series of concussions. What does the future hold for Bockwinkel?
The USWA returns to the Community Center in Cookeville, TN on July 11! • Participants from the 10-man tag team Elimination Match will meet up again in three separate bouts. Southern Heavyweight champ Killer Kowalski will take on long-time rival Yukon Eric in a non-title bout. “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant will face Buff Bagwell. And The Killer Bees will take on Greg “The Hammer” Valentine and Brutus Beefcake—The Dream Team! The Bees requested Valentine and Beefcake, since they were the surviving members, along with Capt. Lou Albano at the end of the match last week. Will the Captain’s men all achieve success again? • Frank Gotch will take on “Ravishing” Rick Rude in a rematch from last month. The Iowan is looking for revenge on Rude, after his controversial win over Gotch last month. Will Gotch gain his comeuppance or will Rude pull off another win? • The main event will be a huge six-man tag team match, as World Heavyweight champion Ed “Strangler” Lewis and Rikidozan will enlist the help of Team RPW member Dan Severn. This trio will take on The “Intelligent, Sensational” Destroyer, The Masked Superstar, and King Kong Bundy. Dick Hutton offered Severn’s help to Lewis and Rikidozan, even though Severn will challenge Lewis next month for the World title. Lewis, Rikidozan, and Severn are looking to take out the rulebreaking trio, after their attack on Giant Baba at the Bash. Who will win this epic confrontation? All this plus The Sheik battles Danny Hodge! Also the World Tag Team champions The Midnight Express in action, as well as Bobo Brazil and Magnificent Muraco!

July 11, 2008 Card #174: Community Center in Cookeville, TN
1) The card started off with a bang, as Brad Armstrong scored only his second win of his USWA tenure, as he scored a big upset over Magnificent Muraco! The Georgian hit a nice body press off the second turnbuckle after Muraco had whipped him in. After some nice fast-paced offense, Muraco blasted Armstrong with an illegal taped thumb to the throat which he calls the Asiatic Spike. But with the crowd behind him, Armstrong came back and hit a Russian leg sweep out of nowhere. He floated over into a cover, but Capt. Lou Albano put Muraco’s foot on the bottom rope. Suddenly “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka came from the locker room and chased the manager around the ring. Armstrong locked on an abdominal stretch, then rolled Muraco back into a lateral guillotine pinning combination and pinned Muraco to score the big win! Albano and Muraco were irate at the loss, but Armstrong was ecstatic, as he celebrated with Snuka and the fans at ringside. **
2) New USWA Texas champion “Playboy” Buddy Rose and “Dastardly” Danny Doring scored an impressive win over George South and Larry Sharpe. South and Rose locked up early on, as South looked like he wanted to get another pinfall on the Texas champ. But Rose and Doring were able to keep Sharpe in the ring for the majority of the bout. Rose scored the pin on Sharpe after a nice dropkick, while Doring held South at bay. ½*
3) In a battle of two fan favorites, Bobo Brazil pinned “The Birdman” Koko B. Ware. Brazil put Ware down for the 1-2-3 after one of his Coco Butts. In a show of sportsmanship, Brazil helped Koko to his feet after the bell and shook hands with him. ¼*
4) World Tag Team champions The Midnight Express defeated Cousin Luke and S.D. Jones in a non-title bout. Jim Cornette was extra antsy in this bout, tripping up both Luke and “Special Delivery” at different times throughout the bout. “Loverboy” Dennis Condrey swept Jones’s legs in the corner and put his feet on the ropes for a pin, but the hillbilly jumped in and blasted Condrey with a head butt to break up the pin. Jones got up and nailed one of his own head butts and went for a cover, but Condrey kicked out. The champs tagged in and out and regained the advantage, hitting the Double Goozle, then the Rocket Launcher a few minutes later to put Luke down for the count. ***¼
5) An injured Buff Bagwell, still sporting a mask to protect his broken orbital bone, scored a big win over “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant. Bagwell was relentlessly, pounding on Valiant from the opening bell. He worked Valiant’s neck, using the double arm DDT and two swinging neckbreakers for two near falls. He executed two Buff. Blockbusters, one of which busted Valiant open, but Valiant still wouldn’t go down. The crowd was behind “The Boogie Woogie Man” and he fought back and locked on a sleeper, but Buff made the ropes. Bagwell fought back and hit a scoop slam, then went for a cover and positioned himself near the ropes, so he could add some leverage. The trick worked as Bagwell got the three-count. Valiant was irate at the sneaky win. **¾
6) The Sheik used his vile tactics to pin Danny Hodge. Hodge was fired up and angry, probably after being robbed of the Texas title last week. He hit an Oklahoma side roll early on, but Sheik was too close to the ropes. Sheik came back after a brawl outside the ring. He locked on the Camel Clutch, but Hodge made the ropes. Sheik hit a stomp to the face off the second turnbuckle, then Abdullah Farouk jumped up on the apron to distract Frank Morrell. It was a setup as Sheik unleashed a huge fireball on Hodge. Hodge hit the mat immediately. Sheik went for a cover and Morrell turned around to count the easy three. Dick Hutton immediately jumped in to aid Hodge. Hodge suffered no major burns from the blast. **¼
7) The Dream Team reunited to score a win over long-time rivals The Killer Bees. Greg Valentine and Brutus Beefcake showed that they still work well together, tagging in and out frequently in the opening minutes and working over “Jumping” Jim Brunzell. But Brunzell tagged out to B. Brian Blair and The Bees hit the Bee Sting for a near fall. Beefcake came back and charged at Blair in the corner with his flying knee smash. He connected, but Blair was knocked into Paul Neighbors. With Neighbors down, all four men ended up in the ring. Jerry Calhoun came down to take over duties and restored order. Brunzell locked Beefcake in a figure-four leglock, but “The Hammer” jumped in and dropped an elbow on Brunzell to save his partner from submitting to his own finisher. Beefcake came back and blasted Blair with his studded armband. Valentine tagged in and came off with a sledge on Blair, while Beefcake held him. Valentine applied his figure-four and it looked like Blair would tap, but at the last second, he rolled over to reverse the pressure. Valentine quickly got to the ropes. “The Hammer” caught Blair with a shoulder breaker and got the pinfall, making Capt. Lou Albano a very happy man. ****
8) It was another battle of Capt. Lou’s men and their opponents from Independence Day Bash, as Southern Heavyweight champion Killer Kowalski defeated Yukon Eric in a bloody brawl. It was a bad night for the referees, as Jerry Calhoun got in the middle of a collision in the corner early on. But Calhoun showed his fortitude and recovered after a few minutes. Kowalski spent the match, bloodying where Eric’s ear used to be, coming off the second rope with stomps and hitting the Bombs Away three times. But Eric fought back, dying to score a win over his rival. He locked Kowalski in a bear hug for over two minutes and weakened the big man, but Kowalski eventually broke out with some punches. Eric got Kowalski up in the Kodiak Krunch, but Kowalski managed to drape his foot over the top rope, breaking the move. Eric came off the top rope with a huge splash, but only got a two-count. Kowalski came back and locked on another face claw, but Eric threw him off, head-first into the turnbuckle, busting Kowalski open. Kowalski went to the floor, and Capt. Lou Albano distracted Calhoun. Eric followed and smacked Eric with a steel chair, right on his wounded ear. Kowalski threw Eric back in the ring and locked on the face claw again. Having lost so much blood, Eric was weakened and Kowalski was able to pin him. Albano was happy, as it was a good night for his men, other than Magnificent Muraco’s embarrassment! *****
9) Frank Gotch gained a measure of revenge, bloodying up “Ravishing” Rick Rude and scoring a submission win. Rude hit two Rude Awakenings throughout the bout, but Gotch kicked out each time. Gotch applied the Gotch Toehold, but Bobby Heenan distracted Frank Morrell. Rude went for a top rope knee drop. Gotch saw it coming and rolled out of the way. Rude hit his knee hard and Gotch took advantage, immediately applying a rolling knee bar. Rude tried another top rope move later on, coming off with a double sledge. Gotch again sidestepped the move and caught Rude coming off, grabbing him in a guillotine choke. He took Rude down to the mat in the hold and with the “Ravishing One’s” face pouring blood, he tapped out. ***½
10) The main event was a huge six-man tag team match. World Heavyweight champion Ed “Strangler” Lewis, Rikidozan, and Lewis’ next challenger Dan “The Beast” Severn teamed up to battle The “Intelligent, Sensational” Destroyer, The Masked Superstar, and King Kong Bundy. Naturally Bobby “The Brain” Heenan was out to accompany Superstar, Bundy, and Destroyer. Dick Hutton came out to accompany Lewis, Rikidozan, and Severn, since Severn was in the match. Rikidozan and Destroyer started off against each other, but once the Japanese superstar got the advantage, he tagged out to Lewis. The Heenan Family (and associate) team worked over the World champ. Superstar applied his Cobra Hold, but couldn’t make Lewis submit. Destroyer tagged in and went for the figure-four. Yet Lewis again made the ropes. Lewis came back and took down Destroyer with a bear hug and leg trip and floated into a pin cover with a half nelson, but Destroyer lifted his shoulder. “The Beast” came in for the first time and went to work on Destroyer. The “Intelligent, Sensational One” scrambled to his corner and tagged out to Superstar, whom Severn defeated last week at the Bash. Superstar blocked a belly to belly suplex with a head butt. The masked man went up to the top rope and came off with a flying body press. Severn caught Superstar and looked ready to slam him, but Destroyer snuck in, while Frank Morrell’s attention was diverted, and clipped Severn’s leg. Superstar fell on top and Destroyer and Bundy charged Lewis and Rikidozan in their corner knocking them to the arena floor. Just like that, Superstar scored a surprise pinfall on Severn after just a few minutes. Destroyer and The Heenan Family congregated in the aisle way and celebrated their victory. Lewis and Rikidozan helped Severn to his feet. Frank Gotch came down and encouraged Severn, then shook hands with the World champ, apparently trying to convince him to join Team RPW. **

Hope everyone at Galacticon is enjoying the weekend!
Bobby “The Brain” Heenan was interviewed by Lance Russell on the July 12 edition of USWA Championship Wrestling. Heenan announced that four-time USWA World Heavyweight champion Nick Bockwinkel recently contacted him about returning to ring action. The manager stated that Bockwinkel has been cautious about coming back too soon, as that caused Bockwinkel more problems with his concussions. “The Brain” said that Bill Apter will interview Bock from his Beverly Hills mansion this coming week and that interview will air on Championship Wrestling next week.
The Civic Coliseum in Knoxville will host a huge night of USWA wrestling action on July 18! • In a big tag team rematch, “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka and “The Boogie Woogie Man” “Handsome” Jimmy Valiant will take on The Killer B’s. The odd duo of Snuka and Valiant defeated The B’s on June in Memphis, but Buff Bagwell scored a singles win over “Handsome” Jimmy last week. Will it be Capt. Lou Albano’s B’s or the bizarre team of the “Superfly” and “The Boogie Woogie Man” who will get the win? • Another big tag team match will take place as former World Tag Team champions The Masked Superstar and King Kong Bundy will battle The Killer Bees. These teams have had some great battles in 2008. The Heenan Family team got the win last time on May 9 in a five-star bout in Chattanooga. This will definitely be a big challenge for The Bees, who have struggled lately, and especially for “Jumping” Jim Brunzell one week before he challenges Killer Kowalski for the Southern Heavyweight title. Superstar is coming off a big pinfall win on Dan Severn in the six-man tag team main event. Will it be The Bees or Superstar and Bundy who achieve victory? • Frank Gotch looks to gain revenge for another tainted loss, as he locks up with The “Intelligent, Sensational” Destroyer. The masked man scored a submission win on Gotch on June 20, after blasting Gotch’s leg with a steel chair. Will Gotch even the score in Knoxville? • Southern Heavyweight champion Killer Kowalski faces the Syrian madman The Sheik in what will surely be a wild brawl. Each man holds a disqualification victory over the other. Will a decisive winner come out of this match? • Dan “The Beast” Severn will take on another Heenan Family member “Ravishing” Rick Rude. Severn is fuming about losing to The Masked Superstar, due to Destroyer’s sneaky tactics. “The Beast” is hoping to gain a big win in his first meeting with Rude, prior to challenging for the USWA World Heavyweight title on August 15. • “Playboy” Buddy Rose just can’t seem to get enough gold! The Texas champ and “Dastardly” Danny Doring will challenge The Midnight Express for the USWA World Tag Team titles in the main event. This is definitely an interesting match-up. Rose and Doring are undefeated, but many fans feel they are getting ahead of themselves, in challenging a team the caliber of The Midnights. It will be interesting to see Jim Cornette and/or “Sensational” Sherri Martel’s involvement in this one! All this, plus Yukon Eric takes on Magnificent Muraco. The Team RPW duo of Dick Hutton and Danny Hodge, and Greg “The Hammer” Valentine in action!

July 18, 2008 Card #175: Civic Coliseum in Knoxville
1) Brad Armstrong scored his second victory in as many weeks, pinning George South. Armstrong got a big pop from the Knoxville crowd when he entered, most likely due to his big win over Magnificent Muraco last week in Cookeville. Armstrong caught South in an abdominal stretch. The Georgian used this move, turned into a lateral guillotine, to defeat Muraco. This time he kept the move upright and forced South to submit. ¼*
2) Greg Valentine scored a quick submission win over Larry Sharpe. “The Hammer” clipped Sharpe’s leg almost right away and applied the figure-four leglock to force the tap in less than a minute. Valentine has been very impressive as of late and tonight was no different. DUD
3) Magnificent Muraco scored a much needed win over Yukon Eric. The Hawaiian attempted to lift Eric for the Hawaiian Hammer early on, but couldn’t quite get the Alaskan up. Muraco utilized his Asiatic Spike several times through the bout, and Eric was eventually coughing up blood. Eric got a close count at one point, as Muraco attempted to shoulder tackle him, but he just bounced off the big Eric. Eric got Muraco up for the Kodiak Krunch, but Muraco grabbed the ropes. Muraco regained the advantage after a brawl outside the ring and interestingly enough got Eric up in an over-the-shoulder backbreaker—his own Kodiak Krunch finisher. Muraco forced Eric into submission. Capt. Lou Albano was definitely pleased with the results of this bout. ***½
4) Dick Hutton and Danny Hodge defeated Cousin Luke and S.D. Jones. Hodge hit a sunset flip on Luke, which defeated the hillbilly in their Texas title bout last month. But this time Luke kicked out. However Hodge took advantage and followed up right away with the Oklahoma side roll to get the win. *
5) “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka and “The Boogie Woogie Man” Jimmy Valiant scored another hard fought win over The Killer B’s. The fan favorites kept Brutus Beefcake in the ring for the first few minutes. Snuka hit a Superfly Leap on Beefcake, but Buff Bagwell broke up the pin attempt. “Handsome” Jimmy went to the top rope, but got shoved off by Bagwell, which allowed Beefcake to recover and tag out. Bagwell immediately came off the second turnbuckle with the Buff Blockbuster, but Valiant kicked out. The B’s double teamed “The Boogie Woogie Man” for several minutes, until Valiant made the hot tag. Bagwell worked over the “Superfly” and hit a scoop slam, which brought him victory over Valiant last week, but Valiant stopped that pin attempt. Magnificent Muraco came back out and stood next to Capt. Lou Albano. “Boogie Woogie” came back in and hit one of his famed wind-up elbows on Bagwell. Albano jumped up on the ring apron to distract Tommy Gilbert, while Valiant made a cover. Meanwhile Muraco snuck in and blasted Valiant with an Asiatic Spike. Snuka yelled at Muraco from the other side of the ring, but stayed in his corner, encouraging his partner. Both Valiant and Bagwell were weakened, but managed to get to their feet. Valiant somehow rallied back and rocked “Buff Daddy” with punches. He tagged out to the “Superfly”, who immediately went up to the top rope and came off with a flying body press on Bagwell. He went for the cover and scored the pin. Snuka and Valiant glared at Albano, The B’s, and Muraco from inside the ring, celebrating that they got the win, despite Muraco’s interference. ***¾
6) Former World Tag Team champions The Masked Superstar and King Kong Bundy defeated The Killer Bees. B. Brian Blair and “Jumping” Jim Brunzell rallied back after taking a beating early on. The actually kept the big Bundy in the ring for a while, as Blair locked was able to turn him over into a Boston Crab, but couldn’t hold him as the big man powered his way to the ropes. The Bees hit a Bee Sting on Bundy and Brunzell went for a cover, but again Bundy got out of it. Superstar came in and was worked over too, but took over after a brawl outside the ring with “Jumping” Jim. He tagged out to Bundy, and with Brunzell in one corner of the ring, whipped his own partner into Brunzell, giving Bundy added momentum for his Avalanche. Bundy made the cover and scored the 1-2-3…4-5. **½
7) Frank Gotch gained revenge for another tainted victory, forcing The “Intelligent, Sensational” Destroyer into submission. Interestingly enough, even though both men utilize leg submission finishers, both focused on the other man’s arm in the opening minutes, trading different armbar variations. Throughout most of the match, Gotch had control. He used his crossface and bar arm on a few occasions and even drew blood from Destroyer’s mask with the crossface. The masked man got to the ropes after a Gotch Toehold, and later after a rolling kneebar, but a second kneebar would bring about a tap and give Gotch a needed win. **¾
8) From a good wrestling match, to an all-out brawl! The Sheik used his sneaky tactics to score a non-title win over Southern Heavyweight champion Killer Kowalski. The Syrian madman used his sharp object in the first minute of the bout, jabbing away at Kowalski. The champ fought back and locked on a stomach claw, but Sheik managed to roll into the ropes. The bout went in and out of the ring. Abdullah Farouk jumped Capt. Lou Albano from behind and the two managers went at it at ringside, with the Captain gaining the upper hand. With Paul Morton’s attention turned to the dueling managers, Sheik took advantage and unleashed a huge fireball at Kowalski. Kowalski hit the mat and writhed in pain. Sheik jumped on Kowalski and applied the Camel Clutch, digging his fingers into the burnt flesh. Morton turned around to see the hold applied and checked on Kowalski. The pain was too much for the Southern champ and he submitted to the hold. This was actually Kowalski’s first pin or submission loss in singles action, since returning to the USWA this year. *½
9) Dan Severn scored a big pinfall over Rick Rude. “The Beast” went for the wakigatame in the opening minutes, but the “Ravishing One” had the move scouted and scrambled to the ropes. Rude hit two Rude Awakenings, after attacking Severn’s neck, but Severn scored great strength and fortitude in kicking out both times. It looked like Rude would submit to another wakigatame, but he just made the ropes. Severn caught Rude with a head and arm throw (the same move with which he defeated The Sheik for the Southern Heavyweight championship). The move was effective here, as he was able to pin Rude’s shoulders to the mat. ***
10) The Midnight Express put the USWA World Tag Team titles on the line in the main event against the undefeated duo of Texas champ “Playboy” Buddy Rose and “Dastardly” Danny Doring. In the pre-match introductions, Jim Cornette, in introducing his team, naturally insulted the challengers and “Sensational” Sherri Martel, saying that he wasn’t sure who “wore the pants” out of those three. The challengers looked impressive, keeping “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton in the ring for the first few minutes. Doring hit his Danaconda—the same as Eaton’s Alabama Jam, and went for a cover, but only got two. Rose tagged in and hit three Bombs Aways on Eaton, busting him open. “Loverboy” Dennis Condrey saved his partner after the second attempt, and then Cornette jumped up on the ring apron after the third. Sherri went after Cornette and pulled him off the apron, then Cornette threatened to smack her with the tennis racket! In the midst of this chaos, Eaton recovered and tagged out to Condrey. Condrey hit two face-first leg sweeps on Doring, but the Pepper Pike, OH native managed to kick out. Eaton came back in and The Midnights hit the Double Goozle. Rose came in to try and help Doring, but Paul Morton cut him off and ordered Rose back to his corner. This allowed the champs to double team Doring even longer! Cornette tripped Doring from the outside, which allowed Eaton to roll him into a small package, but Sherri got up on the other side of the ring and distracted Morton. Doring was busted open by one of Eaton’s famous right hands. It looked like the “Dastardly One” was down and out. Eaton came off the ropes and attempted a spinning neckbreaker, but Doring slipped out of it. He booted Eaton in the stomach and hit the Bareback out of nowhere. Doring went for the cover and got the shocking pinfall! Cornette had an amazed look on his face! Sherri jumped in the ring and squealed in delight, as her men held up the World Tag Team titles! Buddy Rose is now the first man to hold three different USWA championships—World Heavyweight, Texas, and World Tag Team. (He is the second man to hold two titles simultaneously. The first was Frank Gotch who held the Southern Heavyweight title and World Tag Team titles with Dick Hutton at the same time in 2007.) ***¾
