So how's everyone liking 2125 that's playing it? Seems like there's not many people posting current on the boards, but I think that means less than it used to with the current state of GWF fandom. I just wrapped up my year. I'm working on a review on my site and I'll cross post it here when I get it done. Overall though, I'd say that it does seem, TO ME, that the bulk of the focus of the set was on making the color jump. Other areas are lacking a little. I'll be real interested to see what 2126 brings. More thoughts soon...

@ Grant: I look forward to it... as someone who I know is a big fan yet still willing to be honest, your opinion is always welcome.
I'll be honest, I ended up not buying 2125.. the board silliness soured me from pre-ordering, then I got a chance to check out a friends set and it really did nothing for me.. the story didn't have much to it, IMO, which is a shame, because I really liked the Infinity Challenge concept.
I may use it at some point earlier in GWF history (maybe in place of War Games).
@ guest: I've always considered the Pedigree a modified DDT... the only real difference is HHH sticks the guy's head in his crotch instead of using a side headlock. I suppose that's not techincally correct, but that's how I see it.

It would definitely be interesting to see an honest review without the usual bias. Personally for me the Infinity Challenge seemed a cool concept but with lack of story it just kind of wore thin for me after awhile. I tried changing things up with it but quickly grew bored. Honestly the whole New Beginnings era has been very lackluster IMO. 2125 was and will be the final GWF related item I purchase. I had decided a couple months ago to "hang up" the dice though the recent Legends announcements are tempting me to come back for Legends at least. Im not fully sure yet though.

I'll always play Legends since it's a small escape. And I love the game and have nothing against Tom, but you are right. It does get old with the "This is the greatest edition ever stuff". Much like Tom's book. Haven't read it, but every review is simply a COTG fan saying this is the greatest thing ever. I only saw one negative review (Christian/Poison Shadow). It is probably a balance of the two.

So, not that I've actually got to see a color card, I was pretty impressed... nice card stock, good color, very high quality, production wise.
I personally greatly miss a nameplate of some sort, but that's just me, I suppose.
I thought it was interesting that they are now packaging the set in two different parts.. the infinity challenge part, and the main story line part. Makes it an easier entry point for new customers, but kinda makes the infinity challenge (my favorite part of the set) seem like a throw away, fringe sorta thing.

Coming back to 2125, I really liked it. I liked the minimalist approach to the game a lot. It reminded me of the early sets where there was a general storyline for everyone but most of it was left up to you. I think the set was a solid A-. I'm behind already but I'm going to start working on it again and posting results again.
This is coming from someone who pretty much tuned out years 2122-2124. I was not a fan of those years mostly due to the Monolith and Wolf storylines. I do not like the character of Monolith for the following reasons:
1. He's overpowered. 2. He was a blatant pander to people that wanted a high powered heel like Chaos. 3. He missed the point of why Chaos was so memorable IMO. 4. I really liked the open ended top of the card scene that had been going on and he really derailed that. 5. He's boring.
I started a New Beginning fed and I've never been able to get through 2121 because the Monolith character really took me out of it.
This set really got me excited about the GWF again and IMO was the best set since New Beginning. And I'll be honest here. Since Godsend showed up in 2115, the GWF has been really hit and miss for me. I would say I've liked 4 or 5 out of the last 10 sets.
Anyways...
PROS:
Fake Thantos is an awesome character and his tag team with Hector is really fun.
No Monolith in sight for at least a year. And there's the possibility that he might sort of be interesting when he returns.
Paganax, Bishop Hell, Nosfera and Coven Black as the Rogues Gallery might be the most vicious team ever. And I think are the most unique, original and best team that has come along in a long time.
Endgame vs. Paganax is a badass feud.
The Infinity Challenge is a great concept and you can really do whatever you want with it.
Symbiosis is a great concept.
CONS:
Paganax coming to the GWF didn't really get a good explaination.
Rush and Turmoil SUCK as a tag team. We were promised a real Aethran tag team and we got stuck with another makeshift team. Turmoil is barely a tag team wrestler.
Anivar is still boring as hell and I wish they'd stop trying to push the guy.
The women's division is pathetic.
The tag team division is even more pathetic. Good luck trying to keep that division compelling.
There's a real feeling of the haves and have nots in this edition. I ran my tournament and I don't think any Infinity Challenge participants came close to winning a belt. Okay, Shann-Ra won the Women's belt. That doesn't count.
The undercard is ripe with guys that are just stale.
That's about all I can think of for pros and cons.
BTW, I view the Pedigree as a modified piledriver personally. Between the legs = piledriver or powerbomb, to the side = DDT.

And I wanted to throw one other thing in towards the GWF. I know Swarm isn't popular here but I will give him some huge props for his GWFZ. He keeps that undercard moving around and he goes out of his way to keep everyone fresh and moving in some direction. I really felt like that quality had been missing in the GWF since New Beginning started.

I really felt like that quality had been missing in the GWF since New Beginning started. I agree with you on that. I think Swarm has done a great job with the GWFZ and it really blows away any of the New Beginning Sets Tom has put out. My biggest problem is that I like everything from the GWFZ to Legends but just do not have the time to play everything so I stick with mostly Legends. There are also some bootleg sets like the old ICOF and Werner's W3 I'd like to spend some time on eventually

Actually, most would agree Swarm is a creative guy and has a passion for the game you have to respect. Thankfully he's doing a part of the game that doesn't really mean anything, just a part that "if you don't play, it doesn't hurt the flow of your main GWF fed.".
If Tom ever retires and gave him any major "control", I admit I'd quit playing immediately and would just toss my stuff.

2125 in color is very cool, but there is so much other cards that I enjoy like Krazy Kards NAWC sets and Legends that those are my focus. I'll agree that Swarm has the passion ( we all do ) for the game and the creativeness ( we all do in our own way ) too but I would say it would be difficult if he was to run the company for me to support anything he is in control of, other then that life rolls on...

I think the GWFZ is an awesome concept, I just wish it was being run by someone else. Between the disrespect he gave to the creator of Varsity when he 'improved' him, to the vast array of in jokes that are in the sets, it's definitely a set for the 'cool kids' and not really for the general public. Granted I don't have any off them so it could just be the ones I've seen here and there.
I think his passion is for his buddies, not the game.. the game is just a how they met. The GWFZ is a way to try to get more people to buy into his 'gimmick' more than anything, IMO. If he was truly passionate for the game, he wouldn't do such a good job driving people away from it when they don't act they way he thinks they should.
But maybe I just don't get 'it'.

I've actually talked to Swarm about the GWFZ here and there. He knows I buy the sets and who I am on the board. And he'll randomly PM me and ask what I like and don't like about the sets. As far as the in jokes. Most of those came in the PM days. The last couple of sets have been pretty straight forward.
The thing with the new versions of Varisty and Sabre... he adjusted them to better fit in with the GWFZ. They were a little too good for where he wanted them and it was 11 game years after the debut.
I need to get my money in but I'm hopefully going to have a character in the next GWFZ set and he really enjoyed the concept.
This is what I'll say about the GWFZ. Look past the writer and try to get the sets if you can. It is really a quality product and it's really fresh and always moving on the feud front. I have a GWFZ fed and I really enjoy it when I get to spend time with it.

I think Rob is a great guy and with all the stuff he's been through health wise, a real champion. I've only directly talked to him only a few times via PMs and only very briefly at GCon, but he always seemed nice enough. My Z fed petered out because I wanted to focus more on GWF and LOW. But I got nothing bad to say about the guy.
