HWA Wrestling: 1/11/2011
from Columbus, OH
HWA President Les Thatcher welcomes the fans to the first show in the HWA era. He would like to introduce the fans to the new HWA Commissioner... THE DARK MENACE.
The Dark Menace comes down to the ring. He wants to erase the mistakes that Underground Championship Wrestling made. The power struggle between Commissioner Charlie Cox and Eddie Fyne just drug the promotion down and made a real mess of things. He promises to run a clean ship in the HWA. He started things off by firing Commissioner Charlie Cox. That should take care of that feud once and for all.
He's also interested in keeping the peace in the HWA. That's why he's hired on the services of a group he calls the NWA Elite. This group will feature such talents as Nigel McGuinness and the HWA Tag Team Champions Paul London and Brian Kendrick. No one will mess with him if he has those guys backing him up.
The Dark Menace announces that the winner of the Mike Quackenbush, Austin Aries, Tyler Black and Chuck Taylor Elimination Match will face HWA Heavyweight Champion Claudio Castagnoli in tonight's main event.
Number 1 Contenders Elimination Match: Mike Quackenbush d. Austin Aries with the QUACKENDRIVER III Mike Quackenbush d. Chuck Taylor with the QUACKENDRIVER II Mike Quackenbush d. Tyler Black by DQ Mike dominated this match from start to finish. He eliminated all three of his opponents. He moves on to face Claudio Castagnoli later tonight.
Louden Noxious catches up with Commissioner Charlie Cox as he's leaving the building. Cox warns that the Dark Menace hasn't seen the last of him.
Osirian Portal d. Order of the Neo Solar Temple with the EGYPTIAN CONNIPTION The Portal managed to get Crossbones down and Amasis finished him off with the Egyptian Conniption. The Osirian Portal pick up their third point and are no eligible to face Paul London and Brian Kendrick for the tag titles.
Amasis cuts a promo about how he and Ophidian have built the triangle of power and now they will end the reign of Paul London and Brian Kendrick.
Brent Albright w/ Larry Sweeney d. Torrac Hayes with a Northern Lights Suplex Albright toyed with Hayes during this match. He applied a sharpshooter and broke the hold right before Hayes tapped out. Albright hit a Northern Lights Suplex and let Hayes up right before the three count. Albright hit a second Northern Lights Suplex and covered for the pin.
After the match Brent Albright locks the Crowbar on Torrac Hayes and refuses to break the hold. Sweeney eggs Albright on as he locks the hold in even deeper. Finally, Chris Hero runs out and catches Albright with a boot to the face. Hero dropkicks Albright out of the ring.
Erick Stevens d. Sam Hayne by DQ Stevens escaped the Devil Lock by getting into the ropes. Hayne responded by blasting him with Hell's Flame. The referee called for the DQ.
Sam Hayne stalks around the ring after the match as if he's waiting for something. He finally wanders aimlessly to the backstage area.
Briscoe Brothers d. Northstar Express with the DOOMSDAY DEVICE Corbin and Cruz gave the Briscoes fits during this match. They used a double team arm attack on Jay and then Corbin hit Shin City. The Briscoes gained control of the match and quickly put the Express away with the Doomsday Device. The Briscoes pick up their third point and can now face the HWA Tag Team Champions.
The Dark Menace appears on the screen. He congratulates the Osirian Portal and Briscoes for gaining 3 pts. in the tag team division. He's decided that both teams will face off in a No. 1 Contenders match at the next show. The winner will get a title shot and well... the losers will start over at zero points.
HWA Television Title Match: Drake Younger d. Delirious (c) by DQ Delirious was quickly disqualified for using the sadistic assault. Younger wins the match but Delirious keeps the title.
Younger manages to grab a light bulb tube and smashes it over the head of Delirious. Younger grabs Delirious and hits Drake's Landing. Younger poses with the title belt before throwing it on Delirious.
HWA Tag Team Title Match: Paul London and Brian Kendrick (c) d. F.I.S.T. by count out Gran Akuma and Icarus dominated this match. Icarus hit the Pedigree on Kendrick but London made the save. F.I.S.T. followed it up with tandem dropkicks. Things spilled to the outside and Kendrick hit Sliced Bread #2 on Icarus onto the floor. Icarus couldn't answer the count and F.I.S.T. was counted out.
Outside of the building. Commissioner Charlie Cox runs into Harker Dirge. Cox praises Dirge for being a 2x Underground Champion. He hopes that the Dark Menace will give him the same chances. Dirge doubts it. Cox and Dirge continue to walk down the street talking.
Main Event: Claudio Castagnoli (c) d. Mike Quackenbush with the RICOLA BOMB Mike could smell his third reign as champion and went for the kill early. He drilled Claudio with a running palm strike and then a swanton dive. Claudio managed to gain control of the match and caught Mike with the Ricola Bomb to pick up the victory.

Dick Hutton d. George South with the Oklahoma Sideroll Hutton hit South with an atomic drop and then applied the Abdominal Stretch. South managed to escape the hold but Hutton caught him with an Oklahoma Sideroll to earn the victory.
Dick Hutton grabs the house mic. He's really offended that Lou Thesz seems to think that he can just waltz into the NWA and challenge for the World Title. It doesn't work like that in Hutton's book. Hutton says that Thesz is going to have to go through him before he can ever challenge for the World Title.
Oklahoma Athletic Club d. New Zealand Sheepherders with a German suplex Williams and Luke blasted each other with punches in the ring. Williams caught Luke with a lariat and then a German suplex. Luke managed to tag Butch in while Williams tagged in Hodge. Hodge caught Butch with a dropkick and then applied a sleeper hold. Butch gained control briefly and rammed Hodge into the turnbuckle. Hodge tagged Williams in. Williams caught Butch with a German suplex and the referee counted the three. The Oklahoma Athletic Club picks up a nice victory here.
Luke Williams pulls a pair of brass knuckles out of his tights after the match. He drills Danny Hodge and Steve Williams right in the face. Hodge and Williams are out cold as the Sheepherders pump their arms and march around the ring.
Ravishing Rick Rude d. Diamond Dallas Page with the RUDE AWAKENING This was a really good back and forth match. Rude caught DDP with a clothesline and then a piledriver. DDP gained control of the match and caught Rude with a swinging neckbreaker and the Diamond Dream. DDP went to the top rope and missed a knee drop. Rude quickly caught him with the Rude Awakening to pick up the win.
Jim Cornette walks into the office of NWA Commissioner Gorilla Monsoon. Cornette points out that the Midnight Express still have a rematch written into their contract for the NWA World Tag Team Championship. He thinks for their rubber match with Billy Lyons and Dewey Robertson should be inside of a steel cage. Two teams enter and only one will walk away. No outside interference, no excuses, just a winner, pure and simple.
Monsoon likes the idea and agrees. Next month it will be Billy Lyons and Dewey Robertson defending the NWA World Tag Team Championship against the Midnight Express inside of a steel cage.
Main Event: NWA Women's Title Match: Sherri Martel (c) d. Ida Mae Martinez with the TOP ROPE SPLASH (2nd defense) Martinez caught Martel with a arm drag and a hip toss early on. Martinez sent Martel into the corner but Martel exploded out of the corner with a clothesline. Martel hit a suplex and then followed it up with a leg drop. Martel rolled Martinez up with a small package for a two count. Martel climbed to the top rope and hit the Top Rope Splash to pick up the win and retain the championship.
Sherri Martel lifts the NWA Women's Championship belt over her head in celebration. Just then, Jazz slides into the ring. Jazz runs over Martel with a clothesline. Jazz hits a sitout power slam and then applies the Bitch Clamp. Martel screams in agony as Jazz refuses to break the hold. Jazz finally breaks the hold on Martel and takes the NWA Women's Championship belt. She stares at the belt for a moment before she finally lays it on the fallen Martel. Jazz puts the boots to Martel a few times before leaving the ring. The show fades to black with the broken body of Martel laying in the ring.

the Bolsheviks w/ Nikita Brenzikov d. George South and Johnny Rodz with the BACKBREAKER DROP Volkoff caught South with a running stomp and then a double thrust. Volkoff used the Backbreaker Drop to pick up the win for the Bolsheviks.
Lou Thesz is Bill Apter's guest this week. Thesz says that it would be an honor to face Dick Hutton in the near future. He wants to earn a title shot, not be handed one because of who he is. He wants Dick Hutton to name a time and a place and he'll gladly sign on the dotted line.
Paul London and Brian Kendrick d. Doring and Roadkill with the SLICED BREAD #2 London and Kendrick struggled early on with the superior strength of Roadkill. They caught him with a double dropkick. Kendrick came in but got run over with a clothesline. Roadkill sent Kendrick into the corner and then charged. Kendrick ducked the charge and then used Sliced Bread #2 to pick up the victory for the team of Paul London and Brian Kendrick.
NWA World Tag Team Champions Billy Lyons and Dewey Robertson come down to the ring. Robertson likes the idea of getting the Midnight Express away from Jim Cornette inside of the steel cage. He laughs because he thinks they've made a really strategic blunder here.
Lyons takes the mic. He points out that they've on the tag titles twice now. He thinks that they deserve more respect than they get from the fans, other wrestlers and the championship committee. He wants to use this match to show everyone that they are the most underrated tag team in the NWA.
Killer Bees d. the Samoan Island Tribe with the SLEEPER Blair and Brunzell caught Alofa with the double atomic drop and then the Bee Sting. Blair locked on the Sleeper to earn a much needed victory for the Killer Bees.
NWA Women's Champion Sherri Martel is backstage. Another month and another woman trying to take her out. She's gotten used to it now. She's the champion so she'll have a big target on her head. She'll show Jazz that it takes more than a sneak attack to dethrone a champion.
Main Event: NWA United States Tag Team Title Match: the Dream Team d. the Hennigs (c) w/ Bobby Heenan by DQ Both teams brawled on the outside. Curt Hennig grabbed one of the title belts and smashed Beefcake in the head with it. The referee had seen enough at this point and called for the

NWA World Heavyweight Champion the Destroyer comes down to the ring. He's still in disbelief that he won the Heavyweight Championship of the World 2 days ago. He has to admit, it feels really good to be wearing the 10 lbs. of gold around his waist right now. He wants to uphold the honor and respect that this belt stands for. He wants to be a fighting champion and take on anyone and everyone that challenges for the belt.
As the Destroyer continues speaking, Bobo Brazil comes down to the ring. The Destroyer stops talking as Brazil climbs into the ring. Brazil grabs the mic and says that he wants the Destroyer to know that he has nothing but respect for the Destroyer. He wants to shake the hand of the man that dethroned him as the champion.
The Destroyer and Bobo Brazil shake hands and Brazil raises the Destroyer's arm. Brazil says that he wants to buy the champion a beer. They head to the backstage area.

In the main event the Destroyer will defend the NWA World Heavyweight Championship against the winner of the Thesz/Hutton match that will take place later this month.
Lou Thesz d. Fritz Von Goering with the GRECO-ROMAN BACKDROP Thesz escaped the Backbreaker from Von Goering and then came off the top rope with a cross body block for a two count. Thesz used the Greco-Roman Backdrop to pick up the win. Thesz remains undefeated in the NWA.
Lou Thesz stops by the announce table. He wanted to add a little stipulation to his match with Dick Hutton. He wants the match to be a two out of three falls match. He wants to do this match the old school way.
Curt Hennig, Masked Superstar and Ravishing Rick Rude d. Bill Dundee and the Sheepherders by DQ This one spilled out of the ring almost immediately. Hennig used the rolling neck snap and then tossed Dundee out of the ring. Dundee blasted Hennig with a chair outside of the ring to finally draw the disqualification from the referee.

Sullivan and Hodge take turns putting the boots to Dundee until security rushes down to the ring and breaks up the brawl.

Kowalski continued to smash the leg into the ring post until Cowboy Bob Orton ran out to make the save. Kowalski blasted Orton Jr. in the face with a pair of brass knuckles and then walked out of the arena.
Jim Cornette and the Midnight Express are backstage. Cornette can't wait to reclaim their championship belts form those losers Billy Lyons and Dewey Robertson. That match at Clash of the Champions was high robbery and they know it.
Eaton chimes in and agrees with Cornette. It was a fast count and that hack of a referee knows it. It was a conspiracy to get the belts off of the best team in the NWA.
Condrey promises that the Midnight Express will set things right inside of the steel cage. They'll once again be the NWA World Tag Team Champions.
Main Event: NWA World Television Title Match: Chris Candido d. The Sandman and Credible lift Candido onto their shoulders. The Sandman grabs the mic. He promises that this is just the beginning of ECW's hostile takeover of the NWA. They've captured their first championship. Next up will be Jazz winning the Women's Championship.
