This is one of the reasons I like the Fire Pro series. A very talented player can win with lesser fighters, but against the top guys those wins are going to be hard-earned. For instance, in Fire Pro Wrestling A for the GBA, the final opponent in the Showman Style (essentially, you have to wrestle in an American style to win the crowd's approval) is Andre The Giant, and no matter who you are playing as he is damn near impossible to beat. But it can be done! A lesser player can play as any of the top guys or Legends and lose pretty consistantly to a skilled player with a lesser guy. Since the game has no licenses, it doesn't have to worry about "putting anyone over."

Plus, in Fire Pro, Kelly can use Vader's dreaded Boston Crab! Fire Pro has it's +'s and -'s, as does any video game. The same can be said for SvsR2011. It is a shame that the costumes are messed up!

No, you know what's a shame? Playing Jericho/Rey and pinning Rey after a RUNNING BULLDOG in under three minutes on the hardest difficulty. Or Bourne/Jericho, having a hell of a match, and pinning Jericho after a missed dropkick. I've had some AWESOME matches in SVR2011, but those were the two matches I got most excited for, and they disappointed me. Now, I've seen my fair share of wonky Fire Pro finishes (matches ending in reverse chinlocks, cobra twists, etc), but those really pissed me off. I wish there were a current WWE save for FPR so I could just do WWE matches in that game instead of doing what I promised on YouTube and giving people videos of SVR2011.

BAN THE BOSTON CRAB!Switchfoot, regarding wonky finishes, I hear you. There's nothing more infuriating that working in a certain style to get over with the crowd, then hitting a chinlock or something which leads to a submission instead of a pin and seeing your Approval drop 30%. At the same time, it's awesome to see the crowd "learn" your moveset. For instance, I have an Edit of Mikeal Judas which I used in Showman Style. By the third round of it (which requires I think an average of 80% approval and winning 6 of 8 matches... I think...), I would try to finish every match with Assisted Suicide followed by El Crucifejo. When I hit that combination, I was getting over 95% Approval... if I didn't hit them back to back, or just used one or other, I'd get lower, sometimes much lower. The AI adapted to know that Assisted Suicide was the setup for El Crucifejo. (Of course that doesn't help when you cannot PICK UP Andre for either move, but that's neither here nor there.) I think a wrestling game is what you make of it. One of my favorites is Wrestlemania 2000 for the GBC. It's by Natsume, so it's pretty straightforward, but it had a lot of fun little touches like entrances, Vince giving you challenges, etc. The engine was fun and it had a good mix of characters. It was a fun little brawler. SVR always struck me as a party game, whereas something like Fire Pro is more "serious," if a game which has Milano Collection AT and Tokyo Magnum in it can be considered "serious."

I loved WM 2000 for the Game Boy Color, that was my first GBC game. Got it for Christmas in 1999.

I was playing this Wednesday night against my friend's son on the Wii. (I actually used a wired controler, instead of the wireless nu-chucks) It was pretty much a lot of the same old song and dance. Great graphics, but limited move sets, repeated actions, and button mashing. It was fun to play with Nicky, but I wouldn't pick it up on my own to play. It was WAY easier with the controller then the nu-chucks, which is how I actually won a match. (Dolph Zigler over Rey Misterio in an Extreme Rules rematch - lost the first via pinfall).

Some follow up as I recently helped run and played in a SVR tournament at my cousin's game store. Lots of stuff here that I doubt matters to anyone but it's useful knowledge if you're curious as to how the game works and what stuff is best used by what characters.
- Dash attacks are the BEST. A dash attack is when you buffer an attack by running, but pressing the button or stick before the run animation even begins. You can get out easy running grapples or even running finishers doing this, and it's very hard to counter attack, much less reverse.
- The four strike combo is utterly useless and most people will reverse it with no problem. I'd only use this if playing against a masher, because you're going to get beat if you attempt it against a good player.
- Fired Up should die in a fire. I love using that ability, but honestly, why does someone like Sheamus have it? He's already one of the best in the game because of the running Brogue Kick, why does he need the ability to hit two of them and THEN a High Cross?
- Big Show is a character that on paper, is great, and when used by someone who knows the game well, is one of the best in the game. I played him myself in the tournament, and found that faster characters have problems getting away when you close the distance gap because Evasive Dodge is no longer in the game. The big boot is an excellent way to close the gap against an opponent who's 1/4 of the ring away, and it's very hard to reverse.
Show has a couple of major flaws, though. He's slow as all hell, but can close the gap by wasting stamina and throwing out strikes. His Knockout Punch finish sucks and he hasn't got an alternate one. The chokeslam is a regular grapple.
- Edge is garbage, even with Fired Up and a running Spear. Most of his offense is nonsensical and doesn't really build towards anything. I personally destroyed an Edge player who I've known for years to be great at the SD/SVR games, and I was using Wade Barrett to do so. More on why that is bad later.
- Triple H lost the ability to do running facebuster -> finisher since the facebuster isn't his signature anymore. It doesn't do near as much damage, which hurts the combo from SVR09/2010. In its place he has a useless spinebuster. I say useless because it doesn't set up his finish like the facebuster does. He's still good, but not amazing like in the previous game.
- Undertaker isn't one of the top guys this year. The four strike combo was his biggest chance of being viable, but it's not. The Last Ride does good damage though, and the Tombstone is usually an easy and instant win. Not useless, but definitely not the unholy terror he was in SVR09.
- Wade Barrett's signature is essentially a running big boot, or a rebound big boot. This is alright I guess, but most of the time it's better to just grind out a finisher on your own, because the Wasteland does good damage and while it's not a directional grapple, it serves its purpose. It's not like you're going to finish a match with just one anyways.
- Austin and Rock have Fired Up, but honestly, it doesn't help either of them out all that much. The Stunner is alright, but the Thesz Press is Austin's signature and does just as much damage as the regular one, which is stupid. Rock is good too, but he's nowhere near a top character. His high Charisma star (100) helps a little, but again, not a top guy.
- I saw a Santino Marella player make it to the Finals of the Loser's Bracket. Take that for what it's worth, but the guy was cleaning house until he lost to a RVD player.
- Speaking of RVD, he's alright in this game. Nothing fantastic, he's mid-level. You can do some cool mixups with the first two hits of the combo and then snapping a quick grapple and hitting a strike from there, but other than that, unless you're a fan don't use him.
- Evasive Dodge's removal has really hurt guys like Rey Mysterio and Evan Bourne, who kind of lived by the mentality of "Oh hey big dude throwing a strike let me roll away from you so you have to chase me". Now, they have no choice but to take the hit, try to counter hit (see: not smart most of the time), or try to grapple the opponent (see: works more than the previous option, still not smart).
- Lex Luger has potential to be a high level character, but I haven't played enough as him to see what real strategies you can use with him. I saw a couple of people doing pretty well as him, though.
- Bret Hart is a waste of time unless you're a fan. He's essentially Chris Jericho without the running finisher, and he's boring to play. I heard a friend of mine who is a diehard Bret fan who said he can't believe how boring it is to play as Bret.
- CM Punk is really good, too. I'm not sure if I'd rank him near the top, but he's got a lot of useful tools like mixing up his two strong strikes. His running corner signature isn't a great option, though. The Danielson elbows are great and while they don't directly set up the GTS, they look cool and do good damage.
- Cena is a viable tournament character, but it comes down to playing smart with him. He's really reliant on directional grapples to keep opponents in the middle of the ring for a pin attempt/STF. His moves don't do as much damage as in previous games so trying to string together bigger moves is key with Cena. Once you get a finisher built, activate Fired Up and hit three AA's as fast as you can, it's near a guaranteed win from there. If you get a finisher and the opponent runs it out, then you're gonna have a long hard road to building it back up.
- I'm starting to think there's only one S-Tier character in the game, and it's Sheamus ironically enough. Everyone else I previously thought was God level really isn't. Sheamus is above and away the best character in the game. After the qualifiers with Show, and the first two rounds as Show and Barrett, I played as Sheamus for the rest of the tournament and none of my matches were longer than 3 or 4 minutes. He's just too good.

Ok, I started up my universe and I wanted to have title matches and such outside the PPV but it will not let me defend any gold in matches that were not scheduled by the computer. Any idea how to get the gold on the lne? Thanks

Any idea how to get the gold on the lne? Thanks You have to unlock the ECW/Hardcore titles. Go into My WWE, put one of those belts on the champ you want, when it asks you to defend a title, choose the one you want defended.

Someone brought their XBOX 360 to my cousin's game store today so we did a mini tournament, 16 people and it was pretty fun. I won the tournament, the character selection for the Top 8 players looked like this:
1.) Big Show/Sheamus/Orton 2.) John Cena 3.) Undertaker/Kane/Chris Jericho 4.) ABA Undertaker/Undertaker 5.) Sheamus (Kid saw how good people did with him last time, and did pretty good this time) 6.) Bret Hart/Tyson Kidd 7.) Kofi Kingston/John Cena 8.) John Morrison
None of the matches went very long, but one of the kids recorded it and said they were going to upload it to YouTube. I think he said the longest match was 8:59 real time. Everyone in the final four played cautiously, basically just dancing around the ring and throwing strikes until one of them connected and then the matches would get going.
I stand by my thought process that Sheamus is the best, because unless a Sheamus player makes some huge fucking mistake, they're in the driver's seat the entire match. You might be winning the match, but it doesn't matter, the person playing as Sheamus still has the advantage. And all it takes is for the person against him to make even a small, microscopic mistake, and it's all over. Yeah, he's that good.
I was shocked to play against the guy playing Cena because that's the only guy he picked and when I went with Sheamus, he kind of hesitated, and then just went with Cena. He wasn't that much of a challenge. I countered the diving shoulderblock he attempted, and pretty much mauled him for the next minute or two. Again, one little mistake against Sheamus, and it costs you the match.
We're doing a teams tournament next weekend, everybody who played today signed up and a few people there for Magic: The Gathering signed up. We've got 24 people so far, and we're doing teams of 4, so 8 more people have to sign up. I think it'll be a fun tournament.

Teams tournament turned out somewhat well, but we didn't do it at my cousin's store, we did it at someone's house. 8 teams, players from all around the area showed up. We got two teams from Columbus who said they're going to try to start a competitive SVR scene there. I thought that was neat.
Tournament was run like this: Each team has four people. Each match is done gauntlet style. As in if I'm in first for my team, I play until I lose. When everyone on a team gets eliminated, that team loses, the next team advances.
We had some different rules today: - You pick one character for the entire tournament. - You can only switch arenas between matches. - Sheamus is banned. (We did this to keep the playing field level, when we told everyone what he was capable of they all said it would be best to not have him in the tournament, he's going to be used next week though.) - You have to hit at least one Finisher before ending a match. - Teams were divided up by the city they came from.
Top 8 and the character selection: 1.) Fort Wayne (Kane/Barrett/Bret/Cena) 2.) Celina aka "Team if we can't use Sheamus, we're fucked" (Swagger/Big Show/Orton/ABA Taker) 3.) Columbus #1 (Bulldog/Luger/Orton/Steamboat) 4.) Lima (Bret/Tyson/DH/Bulldog) <--- Theme team ftw 5.) Dayton (Vince/Big Show/MVP/Cena) 6.) Indianapolis aka Team Midcarder (Morrison/Kofi/Miz/Benjamin) 7.) Columbus #2 (Santino/Ryder/Kozlov/Big Show) 8.) Toledo (Batista/DiBiase/Bulldog/Miz)
We're looking into running All Stars tournaments in each of the cities represented today. There's a lot of interest in it, it seems. We've also reached out to major SVR players from pretty much all over the country, and we're trying to figure out where the best place would be to hold a major SVR tournament. Someone suggested a side tournament at EVO in Vegas (major fighting game event), so we might do it there.

So, I dusted off the SvR2011 this weekend, and played through the Elimination Chamber ppv. Most interesting thing that happened was during the tag title match. The Allied Powers (Luger and Bulldog) were defending the tag titles against The Hart Dynasty. Then, at one point Luger turns on Bulldog. Clothslines him and walks off in a little animation. I'd never had that happen before. I was so tickled by it. Else where at the Elimination Chamber PPV, Terry Funk captured the Intercontinental title in the first EC match, last eliminating defending champion Jake the Snake with a piledriver on the platform, and John Morrison won the other EC match to capture the WWE Championship, ending the two month reign of Cody Rhodes... My WWE is soooooo far from reality.

Picked this back up and on recommendation for a friend, started messing with Story Designer. I'm currently 13 weeks into a 28 week Undertaker Identity Crisis angle that culminates at WrestleMania with American Badass Undertaker vs. Ministry Undertaker vs. Regular Undertaker in a Hell in a Cell match.
