I've been working on a set of multiplayer rules and charts since August. Mainly the idea for the rules/charts stemmed from a way to organize my own COTG universe chronologically along with all my favorite bootlegs.
Basic idea
Talent pool (all the wrestlers)
Promotional tier system(rules for the backstage of the promotion/its limits and requirements)
Contract System (advance rules for backstage of the promotion/management of talent)
Rivalry Shenanigans
Territorial Map Of The Galaxy (fan loyalty system/still in the works)
Locker Room Politics
Get with the times (a system that would cover what was in as far as popular culture is concern-styles, storylines, memes, media, etc & how your promotion works against it)
Lets imagine... (uh... two people off the top of my head) Ray, Troy, and I come together online or in person and use this system as in its finished form. We would pick a year 2074-2125 then put together a talent pool. Each of us would create a promotion and start to draft wrestlers into our promotions. From there each of us would roll out a game year. Then congregate together roll on all the various charts to see how the next year would play out, set rankings for a universal PWI500 type deal, adjust contracts, shenanigans, steal each others talent, & plan on invading each others territory.
Sound interesting? I'll post more about what I've been working on( mainly in the Conspiracy Theories of the Orion Spur) on a later date.
Contract System Part 1
These rules should add a new dimension to the game and give more structure to a promoter vs. promoter multiplayer game using the promotional progress rules/chart and the promotional rival rules/chart that I released before.
*Drafting rosters in competing federations/brands.
*A balanced and simple way to level out fiances without the advanced math/complication.
*Detail story lines where you show how you cut the fat from your federation.
*Give new meaning to dropping or raising promotional levels.
*Give more value to backstage workers by giving them contract levels.
Without a doubt I would suggest this for a multiplayer game( you and a friend/friends can have rules and charts for rival promotions).
Contract tiers
Descriptions used give examples based on GWF lore. Certainly in a smaller fed a contract tier of 3 or four would be high card or main event.
Nobody(0) Anyone without a shred of credibility. Most wrestlers will gain at lest one level if the sign with a promotion the size of system and above. There is no example of this during GWF canon.
Bottom Barrel(1) Undercard or local wrestlers like rookies Gila, Ursa Major or Rouser.
Low Card(2)Over the hill or undercard wrestlers making the next step. Like Marcel De Sade/Dreadnaught in twilights of their careers or Vanity 2087.
Lower Mid(3) Tag team based, up and comers, or lost in the shuffle crowd like Earthquake 2088, Ursa Major 2099, Vlad Hammer, etc.
Mid Card(4) Streaky veterans around .500 in the win loss column or newcomers guys like Executioner 2087 and Mimic.
Upper Mid Card(5)
Upper Card(6) Proven talent who have dominated other promotions like Janus 2096 and Terminus.
Superstar(7) Like Star Warrior and Thantos 2087
Mega Star(8) Paragon in 2107, Endgame in 2118
Icon(9)
Infinity(10) Highest level of money that can be made. Usually corruption or mishandling fiances can lead to this area.
Promotional Roster tier limits
First number maxium contract tokens with pentalty to progress chart roll. Second is contract tier available workers.
Regional (5) Level one and below.
Planetary (10) Level Two and below.
System(24) Level four and below
Star Cluster(40) Level seven and below
Vector(60) Level eight and below
Galaxian (85) Level eight and below
Galaxian Cluster(100) Level Nine and below
Universal(140) Level ten and below
Dimensional (200) Level ten and below
Assigning and upgrading contract tiers.
Most brand new without a history or a team bring them in will have either a (0) or (1) contract rating.
A history on the independent circuit can give a (3) contract ranking depending on skill.
Debuting in promotions on certain teams or with certain managers can give a +1 to contract ranking.
Gaining contract tiers
At the end of each contract if a wrestler has gained in status/draw. Unless unionized most wrestlers might get a slight increase in pay for each successive contract but if he hasn't gained as a draw it shouldn't effect his contract tier. Docking someone's tier due to poor performance is rare. As long as they are not no showing or losing every match by DQ or Matt Hardy I don't see how one would get away with docking someone's tier if they went from midcard status to lower mid card.
Over the limit penalties.
Are handled on a year by year bases. Take the information provided below and roll one die.
Slightly over(depending on the size of your promotion this can be anywhere from 1 to 20) -1 to rolls
Moderately over(depending on the size of your promotion this can be anywhere from 3 to 35) -2 to rolls
Bloated roster(depending on the size of your promotion this can be anywhere from 4 to 60) -3 to rolls
Spending like crazy(depending on the size of your promotion this can be anywhere from 5 to 300) -4 to rolls
Pentalty Roll
1-2 subtract one more to your roll( if it was -1 before its -2 now) 3-5 No change to roll 6 add one to roll( if it was -1 there are no penalties now/if it was -2 it is -1 now).
CONTRACT TYPES
How would you incorporate a open contract with tiers? With Contract types.
Beware some math skills needed( but still simple math).
Open Contracts
Open contracts are perfect for wandering masters like Endgame looking for a challenge, stars who are over but want to work a limited schedule for good pay. Also is needed for smaller promotion who can not hold on to bigger name talent in exclusive contracts.
Basic deal: 12 appearances=1/4 of Tier (example- Tier (4) will cost 1 point, Tier(8) will cost 2 points). Minimum amount is 1 point. 24 appearances=2/4 and so on.
Favors Wrestler: 6 appearances=2/4 of Tier (example- Tier (4) will cost 2 point, Tier(8) will cost 4 points). Minimum amount is 1 point. 12 appearances=3/4 and so on.
Favors Promotion: 22 appearances=1/4 of Tier (example- Tier (4) will cost 1 point, Tier(8) will cost 2 points). Minimum amount is 1 point. 44 appearances=2/4 and so on.
Appearance means participation in one fight card. They can be booked twice in one night( like cut a promo and then wrestle later). Just think 1 fight card= 1 appearance.
Limited Engagement
These contracts could be for trial periods, a returning legend, or maybe for celebrities.
Peanut Gallery: Someone with (0) nobody status looking to make a name for himself in the ring. Can work for no penalty to your promotion's contract points for 2D6 fight cards until you either release them or upgrade their contract. Someone with (1) can work for 1D6 fight cards without penalty to your promotion's contract points until you either release or sign them.
Taking from your status:
*Most celebrities will work for 1D6 fight cards at a cost of 1 point.
*Huge galactic icons may give you promotional points at a high cost. For promotions that are star cluster or smaller(0-11 promotional tokens) hiring one of these stars will cost you 1D6+3 contract points to work 1D6 appearances. Roll one die for effect: 1-2 no effect to the promotion's popularity! 3-5 Add 1 promotional token! 6 Add 2 promotional tokens!
Surrendering to a higher power: Superstar wrestlers making a comeback may want this type of a schedule especially if they are over the hill. 12 appearances( one big show a month) for their full contract tier! (Example Tier(8) only works 12 times a year)
One Time
Usually these contract should be left up to you. If its a one time deal with a nobody there should be no dent on your fiances. But if its a one time deal with a galactic superstar wrestler it could impact them slightly.
BACKSTAGE PLAYERS
You may have a few wrestlers you absolutely can't live without. You might have already made them a commissioner, promotion owner, or hell even cloned them! How about sticking them in the backroom working for the promotion that did so much for them? You might have already done this... but now you can add a new dimension using these rules.
Head Of Talent Relations – Talent Scouts
Talent Scouts usually have an eye for a certain type of wrestler. Say Halcon Oro or Enigma became a scout. They would have an eye for being able to spot talent who use a high flying luchador style. These professionals are the core for any development territory.
SCOUTING TIER
This is used for randomly generating talent that comes not from teams(Titans, etc), managers( Dark Menace, R B Guile, Strutter, etc.), but from your scout to either your development territory or your undercard. They can also scout pre-existing wrestlers and bootlegs that fit within guidelines below.
(0) Not competent.
From someone with no eye/love for the business to a avid fan with love for the business but no understanding of the fundamentals. On a roll of 5 or under they find a talent with a Rahl rating of 3D6 -8. One roll per month.
(1) Knowledgeable
A wrestling veteran who can see a challenger or someone with potential. Like Dynamo would be able to gauge a power wrestlers potential. On a roll of 6 or under they find a talent with a Rahl rating of 3D6 -2.
Two rolls per month.
(2) Style Specialist
A master of a certain style of wrestling. Like a collegiate grappler, greco roman, brawler, luchador, suicidal risk taker, hardcore, submission specialist, comedy, etc. On a roll of 6 or under they find a talent with a Rahl rating of 4D6.
Two rolls per month.
(3) Wizard Of The Trade
Someone who not only lives and breaths the business but has serious talent him/herself. Someone like Omega was able to spot and help Commander Sam, Thantos, Star Warrior, and so many others.
On a roll of 7 or under they find a talent with a Rahl rating of 4D6+6.
Two rolls per month.
(4) All Seeing Eye
An uncanny individual who has an unmatched eye for spotting talent and seeing a future with the talent in the promotion he works for. On a roll of 8 or under they find a talent with a Rahl rating of 5D6+6.
Two rolls per month.
EXAMPLE: We are going to create three scout out of three of my favorite wrestlers Enigma, Dynamo, and Justice.
Dynamo, Scout Tier(1) favors power wrestlers and scouts weight lifting competitions.
Month 1: Rolls 9- finds no talent. Rolls 4 finds talent. Rolls for Rahl Rating 11 – 2 = 10
Dynamo finds a imposing specimen with a Rahl Rating of 10.
Enigma, Scout Tier(2) favors high flying risk takers and scouts extreme sporting events.
Month 1: Rolls 2 finds talent! Rolls 8 finds no talent. Rolls for Rahl 16.
Engima finds a daredevil with a Rahl rating of 16.
(Justice is a talented veteran and a jack of many trades)
Justice, Scout Tier(1) looks for talent plain and simple.
Month 1: Rolls 5 finds talent. Rolls 4 finds talent. Rolls for Rahl 10-2= 8, 13-2=11.
Justice finds two talented all around wrestlers with a Rahl of 8 and 11.
------------THE ROLODEX---------------------
Every developmental territory and promotion has limits to the number of talent it can employ without losing money. The solution to this is after scouting each talent add them to your promotion's rolodex( phone book/what have you). Just write down the scouting reports and when you need a foundation for a bootleg you have a Rahl rating and back story to work with. If you have a mole in your promotion your scouted talent could get poached if you leave them unsigned for to long.
Randomly Generated Scout
In case you would rather have a random scout for a rival bootleg federation you have created out of the blue for competition then an old favorite. All of these scouts have a contract tier of (1)
1. Not long for this world. Scout tier(0) you hired a real stinker. He lasts for 2D6 months until you see through his incompetence.
2. Jack of All Trades Scout tier(1)
3. The Veteran Scout tier(1) Able to gauge one styl. Roll one die 1-Gymnastics/agility, 2-Weight Lifting/power, 3-Submision/style, 4-Risk Taking/style, 5-Hardcore/style, 6-up to you
4. His Divine Shadow Scout tier(2) A cult has infiltrated your federation! This scout is only scouting those who either hare his religious point of view or contribute to it! Roll 2d6 if the roll is 4 or under you have somehow caught him/hr red handed and fired him before pressing conspiracy charges. If not you wont know until its to late...( several of your new stars are making waves in the promotion before coming out!). See Cults of Personality...
5. The Specialist Scout tier(2) Roll one die 1-Luchador, 2-Brawling, 3-Elite Grappling, 4-Comedy, 5-Shoot Fighting, 6-up to you
6. Are you a Wizard!? Scout Tier(3) Why yes I am. Asks for a tier three contract after 2d6 months.
Basic idea
