A man dressed in a black suit and black mask is standing in the center of the ring with a microphone in hand. He greets the crowd and introduces himself as the Masked Promoter. He informs them that this will be the premier event of a promotion the likes the FLW has never seen before. The Masked Promoter continues by telling the crowd that tonight he will hold a single elimination tournament to crown his promotion’s first heavyweight champion. He concludes by inviting the crowd to sit back, relax and enjoy tonight’s action.
Frank Gotch vs. Dory Funk, Jr.
This was an incredible back and forth match. Funk continued to use his slight strength advantage to keep Gotch down but Gotch managed to counter. Both men had numerous near falls and Funk even escaped the GOTCH TOE HOLD. Gotch worked on wearing Funk down and finally made him submit to the GOTCH TOE HOLD.
Harley Race vs. George Hackenschmidt
Both of these powerful men exchanged heavy blows throughout the match. After each man recorded a near fall, Hackenschmidt tossed Race out of the ring. Race grabbed Hackenschmidt and whipped him into the guard rail. The ref warned Race about his behavior. Despite the ref’s warnings, Race continued his assault. The ref disqualified Race.
Verne Gagne vs. Jim Londos
A Londos miscue at the beginning of the match was his undoing. Londos missed a turnbuckle charge, resulting on him tumbling out of the ring. Gagne nailed him with a clothesline from the apron and Londos hit his head on the concrete floor. Londos barely returned to the ring in time and Gagne went for the jugular, finally putting a very groggy Londos out with a GAGNE SLEEPER.
Rikidozan vs. El Canek
This match broke down quickly and both men were counted while they brawled outside the ring.
The Masked Promoter returned to the ring. He informed the crowd that the semifinals of the tournament would begin shortly with only one semifinal contest. The Masked Promoter informed the crowd that Verne Gagne would receive a bye to the finals as a result of the double count out result between Rikidozan and Canek.
Frank Gotch vs. George Hackenschmidt
Gotch neutralized Hackenschmidt’s power with several wear down holds and made him submit to the GOTCH TOE HOLD. Gotch was about to leave the ring when he was attacked by Bronko Nagurski. Nagurski knocked Gotch to the ground with a flurry of blows then threw Gotch into a ringside table. Security came to the ring and escorted Nagurski from the ringside area. Medical personnel tended to Gotch and helped him to the locker room.
Several minutes passed following the removal of Gotch from the ringside area. The Masked Promoter finally appeared in the ring to make an announcement. He informed the crowd that Frank Gotch was being taken to a local medical facility and would not be able to appear in the tournament final. The Masked Promoter told the crowd that he had just had a discussion with Verne Gagne and Gagne refused to accept the heavyweight title without earning it. The Masked Promoter continued by telling the crowd that an alternate opponent for Gagne has been determined and agreed to by Gagne so there will be a tournament final and that match will be happening after a short intermission.
INTERMISSION
Verne Gagne vs. Terry Funk
This match was an all out fight. Funk tried to roughhouse Gagne but Gagne used his speed and agility to counter. The action ended up out of the ring several times and both men were counted out. The Masked Promoter came out of the locker room and announced that this result was unacceptable and there must be a winner. The Masked Promoter restarted the match giving it a no disqualification, no count out stipulation. The match began again and both men exchanged several vicious blows and Gagne was busted open. A bloody Gagne battled back and put Funk away with a flying head scissors.
The Masked Promoter entered the ring, shook hands with both men and publicly thanked them for a great performance. The Masked Promoter presented Verne Gagne with the heavyweight title and presented him to the crowd. The crowd gave Gagne a standing ovation.
