I hadn't played a battle royal in 4 or 5 years and decided I wanted to do one where the winner got a title shot. This was going to be reintroducing battle royals into my NWA as well.
I made it about 5 minutes in before I remembered why I hadn't done a battle royal in 4 or 5 years. They just take forever and the rules feel really unclear to me. I end up just turning it into randomly selecting two guys and having them fight it out and repeating until someone wins.

The way I run battle royals takes some time but it gets close to the feel of action going on all around. I'll lay all the cards out and start down the line doing matchups and try to do about five moves, then move to the next. There is some creative license as I'll move a guy on offense somewhere and attack another guy, maybe his feuding opponent. If a card close to someone on defense who rolls tag, maybe that partner will jump over and help. Then I'll use the battle royal chart in the book for out of the ring sometimes, not everytime. I also say if you roll out of the ring the guy is gone, no rolling the pin as that makes it take even longer. I've done things this way since the beginning of the GWF, it's fun, but long

I have been running my battle royals the same as Ty for several years. While rarely are they earth shattering events, they do spawn some good storylines on occasion.

I might have to try that. I want to start running maybe one a month or so.

I might have to try that. I want to start running maybe one a month or so. You dont' have to have a huge group in there. I have run BR's with as few as 12 and it worked just fine.

I like 12-20. I've done some 10 man battle royals too.

Truthfully, I never understood the Filsinger rules for a battle royal (pick someone to attack at random). Just doesn't seem too much of a flow to a match. I don't blame Tom though, it's kinda hard to come up with anything. You know what I do for battle royals? I put the participants in a pile, shut my eyes and draw 'em out. The only rule I have if a wrestler has two out of the rings, I'll let him back in and he'll have another chance while a person with one automatically gets thrown out. My way seems so much easier! Another special match I don't understand is the Aethran Ultimate Escape Match. The rules were to escape the cage to win. But think about this: If, say, WAR took on the Gladiators in 2095. If Raven, Mace and Fury were able to escape before any of the Gladiators, I'd sure as hell would hate to be Dreggs stuck inside a cage with four pissed off Gladiators. I just adjusted the rules where it was basically a tag elimination cage match. I think the rule was that way since Tom grew up with that horrendous escape the cage WWWF rule.

I have never, ever played a battle royal, I just don't like the rules. It seems like it's pretty much whoever you want to win wins, which makes the actual match seem kinda silly.
At one point I was gonna try to make some good rules, but I just don't like battle Royals enough to try.

You know, it seems like you can manipulate who wins but it's so easy to eliminate someone that your preferred guys usually get the boot early.
