Game 5
Pre-Americans 2, Pittsburgh 1Pre-Americans 000 000 020 - 2 10 1 Pittsburgh 010 000 000 - 1 6 0 WP: S. Coveleski (2-0) LP: D. Redding (1-1) SV: L. Gomez (1) HR: O. Johnson (1) A great pitcher's duel for the first time in the series. The Pre-Americans scored just enough in the eighth inning to get the win 2-1, and win the series in five games. Oscar "Heavy" Johnson led off the second with a solo shot to put the Crawfords up 1-0. It stayed that way until the eighth inning. Dick Redding finally ran into trouble. Joe Sewell singled and pinch-hitter Earl Averill doubled. After a lineout, Al Simmons drove in two with a single to end Redding's day. Red Ruffing pitched the eighth and Lefty Gomez earned the save in the ninth. www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/simmoal01.shtmlSimmons was one of the top hitting stars for Connie Mack's legendary Philadelphia Athletics' championship teams of the 1929-31 era. Although possessing an unorthodox batting style in which he violated a basic principle of hitting by stepping away from home plate, Simmons hit .334 lifetime and twice led the American League in batting (1930-31). Simmons also was a prodigious run producer, driving in more than 100 runs in 12 seasons, including 11 in a row. Simmons holds the record for most hits by a right-handed batter in a season, collecting 253 in 1925. Simmons played for six teams in the majors but enjoyed his greatest success with the Athletics. He participated in four World Series.

10 Homers in two series is crazy... seems those Negro league teams have great stars but not as much depth as the all-time teams.

The Negro league teams have LOTS of triples (or opportunity for) on their cards. The main issue is that some of the top guys were not great fielders and with "X"s on the pitcher's cards, that can be an issue

So how do you decide who to use out of the bullpen? Most of those guys in the old days were all starters... is there separate relief ratings, so that you have to pick the guy that had a couple bullpen appearances, or are you just picking yourself?
