Yeah, you definitely can. It's not like Football where there are plays to call... it's just the substitions, and sometimes who shoots. I saw the football game on the SOM site. Is it worth looking at or should I just stick to the basketball game? The computer game version of the football game is pretty fun.

Just got my 1993 set, my only complaint is that whoever the previous owner was had to have been part of a draft league because all of the players are jumbled up into made up teams. Going to take a while to sort it out and get playing.
EDIT: Dude wrote ALL OVER a bunch of the cards, including some of the 85-86 Celtics. Fucking hell. At least he didn't touch the Pacers. Would have killed someone had he messed with Reggie Miller's card.
EDIT #2: Just organized everything by teams. I'm missing most of the Bulls (missing Pippen and B.J. Armstrong which really sucks) and the Mavs, but have a bunch of doubles for team defense and even some players (how many Rik Smits cards do I need?).

Just got home from local gaming shop where I stumbled upon a sealed 2001-2002 season Strat O Matic Basketball for 5 bucks. I of course purchased the game on reputation. I hear it's really fun so I figured why the hell not. To the SOM guys on the board....just how fun is it?

I've never played SOM (still haven't bought the stuff to actually play the game, just the 95-96 cards) but most people swear that it's the most accurate basketball game known to man.

I'm not sure how the later versions are... the only one I've played is from the mid-80s. Much like the other SOM games, I find they sacrifice slightly better accuracy and realism for gameplay... I've always preferred Statis Pro for Basketball and APBA for baseball. There are definitely plenty of people who disagree with me, though

I saw the football game on the SOM site. Is it worth looking at or should I just stick to the basketball game? SOM Baseball is their best game, with Football (pro) coming in second. (Their old college f-ball game was a load of fun as well). It's a hard call on whether to spend the money or not. Football is more fun with a second person, but it is time consuming. It also depends on who you are playing with. Agree. SOM Baseball is very realistic and alot of fun to play. I like pro football next, followed by hockey. All are very realistic and enjoyable to play. Ty plays the computer baseball version and sounds like he enjoys that version.

Strat Basketball is excellent and is very realistic on the PC and in board game form. I have an older version of the PC game, unfortunately only DOS based. I want to upgrade to the new version someday, but it would cost me a lot to do so. I just have the 93-94 season, the 1970-1971 season (Milwaukee Bucks championship year with Big O and Lew Alcindor), and either one or 2 seasons of the ABA. What I like is the contrast in some of the games. The 70-71 NBA season is played with no 3pt line, while the ABA has a 3pt line and instead of a orange ball it has the ABA red white and blue ball. I ended up playing a lot more of the old 70s NBA/ABA games then I did the "new" season. It did allow you to adjust rules, so if you really wanted to, you could add a 3pt line to the 70-71 season. They just seemed to use the outside shot percentage in this case, which made 3 pointers too easy doing this. Which is understandable, don't really know of a good way around this.

I could see a SOM computer version being really sweet... that would make the actual time to play shorter (which is my biggest knock on it)

Thats where I am at too......the price point is way too high, even for the little bit of stuff i have........ I guess it would be worth getting the new game if I was in some sort of league or played head to head or something....but just to putz around by myself once a month or so isn't worth upgrading. Especially when I am content playing with 20 and 40 year old teams lol

Wow, $68 is pretty steep.

It's very steep but worth it if you ask me. I spent that on the baseball game and I've probably put 100s of hours into it.

Just checked, and the shipping on the PC game (because you know, you can't offer shit digitally this day and age...nobody does that at all) is like $11 for UPS. I can have a box of cards shipped to me via UPS for $6. There's also a $3 shipping option, but it doesn't specify which carrier.
Again, I'd rather just buy NBA 2K11.

The thing with strat is. They're a company that's a lot like Filsinger games. Fairly small so you're going to have to pay more for the product. It is pricey. I will not argue that at all. I will say that it is worth the money.
