You don't generally get much of anything as far as 'tools' go with the board game.. maybe a score sheet.
As far as schedule goes, you can get the real one at Baseball Reference, or make your own.
Most people use Excel for stats these days... if you need help getting started, there's a plethora of spreadsheets to work from out there, or I'm sue one of us could hook you up. You could of course also go old school and use paper and a calculator (old-timey accounting paper works well).
Obviously, the big plus side of using a computer sim instead of the actual board game is the stats being done for you.
I've always thought it feels less like playng on a computer sim sometimes, but for whatever reason the APBA one works for me.

You can do advanced Strat baseball in under 30 minutes once you really get the rules down. On the compute version you can knock a game out in 15 minutes.

Yes, it is really expensive. Like $68 expensive. It's totally worth it though if you'e actually going to play it. I probably put 500 hours into the copy I bought.

Lite is what it is. A Lite version. When you get into actual seasons you can't beat Strat for what's available to you.

I'm very much liking the spreadsheet. Entering all the stats into it.
