I like the Moose one If it's a minor league team, though, it might be weird.

@jason, that Jets jersey is classy and classic. Beautiful. The NHL has been trying to force feed hockey in the South for years and it usually doesn't work. The NHL has never quite figured out that it has a limited fan base. And essentially abandoning Canada while making a run at fringe markets is just odd. But I will give the NHL credit, they are at least trying to expand its base and realizing when it is time to cut the cord. That is miles ahead of what the half-wits running MLB are doing. The NHL has not had an expansion team in the South since the Thrashers. In that time we have had two new teams join the league, both in cold weather environments. And of course there was the soap opera with the Coyotes. So clearly they have learned that lesson, or at least begun to learn it. The NHL has wanted a presence in Atlanta for a long time. Atlanta is a HUGE city but unfortunately they are amongst the most fair weather fans in the world, so a middling team is a hard sell. Not all of the Southern clubs are troublesome. My club, the Hurricanes, do very well for themselves for the most part. They draw good numbers and have for a number of years now. The Carolinas have benefited from having a very strong minor league hockey presence in the states and thus building awareness and interest. The Stars moved to Dallas long before Southern Relocation became trendy and do fine. The Lightning generally are alright, even though the Panthers can't draw much. Hell, the Coyotes drew when they were in the city limits, too. Their problems really stem from moving the damn arena to Glendale, so that it's a trek and a half to get there from anywhere not named "Glendale." They had a pretty strong base of older fans, retirees from the North and East who grew up as hockey fans. But the move made it much harder to even get to the damn games! And remember that a few years ago, who did Balsillie want to buy and move to Hamilton? No no, before Nashville. He wanted to move the Pittsburgh Penguins! Because they sucked and didn't draw dick. So being cold weather is not a guarantee of anything. Nothing succeeds like success.

I'll reiterate that I prefer the Jets, here's why I think it'll be the Moose. Joe Blow takes his kid to a hockey game in (anycity) and the hometown team is facing the Winnipeg team. After tha game, kid is ten times more likely to ask for a Moose jersey than a Jets one. That's the type of shit that saw Mighty Ducks gear flew off the shelf for years.

I agree that something catchy like the older Moose logo to me or something different from the Minor League team will draw kids, but the new Winnipeg team might want Tradition back and I really think the NHL needs that more then anything new, Hockey is a location sport and having Tradition is worth something in Hockey and Canada... I'm glad Winnipeg is getting a team, those fans started the White Out during the playoffs and I hope they keep it going whenever they make it to the playoffs...

I think its true for younger fans or the "gangsta colars" for teens
