Wow, that was sure a slaughter.
I don't remeber Atlanta having an almost 100 loss season... that must be just before Glavine, Smoltz and Maddux? (I know they got Smoltz from the Tigers.. I thought it was '87, but not 100% sure)

Gant, Justice came around, Lonnie Smith and Terry Pendleton were rejuvenated. Fun to watch them

That sounds pretty good on paper... I checked on BR... They didn't have Pendleton , (Jim Presley was the 3rd baseman) but otherwise you're right on... pretty good offense. Looks like Odibie McDowell stepped in for Murphy at some point (traded to Phi mid season, IIRC)
The pitching though was horrendous. Smoltz and Glavine, then that's it. Charlie Liebrandt looks like he was the 3rd started, but must have got hurt (only about 22 starts) he was decent.. Avery was indeed lousy, then there was a mismash of guys that had a few starts and lost most of them. Marty Clary was the worst... 1-10 in 14 starts and a few relief appearance.
They also had no closer... or, perhaps 'bullpen by committee'.. no one had double digit saves, or an ERA under 4 in the bullpen.
