Not to derail the topic, but I'm happy to have I-CON and the people that come rather than driving out to NY to get my fix. I hope more people can come to I-CON that can't or don't want to make the Jamestown trip. A good 15 or so people like they had at G-Con would be a good number for something like I-CON.

A good 15 or so people like they had at G-Con would be a good number for something like I-CON. I don't have an official G-con count, but I'd say the actual number was about twice that. Numbers were definitely a little down from last year, but with a slow economy and high gas prices, that's not particularly surprising.

Based on the tournament results TM posted... there's probably 35 different names there or so... though that probably includes Tom's kids and such.
If that's all the people there was, that seems a little lower than I recall from the past... I feel like it's been more like 50 or 60 in the past (but perhaps that was hype....)
While Mark is correct about lots of people not having the set yet... usually people comment on the comments people have made... and that's not happening, really.

I think the hype job was really bad. Monolith was kind of expected and I think we're the wrong demo for the vampire stuff. Really, what was there in the sets to get people excited this year?
And the discussion over the weekend was probably hurt by the price increase for Online. Usually, I'd have been on there chatting away about whatever happened and how the new cards look but I don't have a set because I wasn't going to pay $19 for Online.

I actually think they did a really good job with the previews this year... we got a good amount of info without giving the story away.
I think you're right about being the wrong demo... Vampires right now have shifted from the male college and college+ crowd (back 10-15 years ago when White Wolf was huge and people where LARPing all over the place) to the tween-teen girl crowd... the last few hot vampire properties (Twilight, True Blood, even Anita Blake) are targeted at women more than men.
It's interesting when you think about it.. everything before NB was all very 'cosmic'... now it's gone the entire opposite direction... we have family squabbles, economy problems, supernatural stuff, and a plague coming... it's like Tom went from Star Trek to Game of Thrones.
Perhaps the current fan base is more into the 'cosmic' stuff (though no one seems to have liked the realms and such) than the grittier, more medieval feeling the GWF has now?

I finally got the edition for Online. We got double hosed on this set. Not only did they raise it $6 but we got no bonus 2126 updates to exisiting guys.
I really hate the current roster. There's no middle ground between the main eventers and anyone else. This literally feels like it's Endgame, AO, Paganax and Monolith... then a huge gap... then everyone else on the roster. It really feels like a mashed together roster of nobodies and also rans. Really don't like the shape of this roster at all.
I agree with Wildfire. Endgame needs to make his move one of these editions. He's needed to make that move for 3 editions now.
I like the new Monolith. He's actually interesting now.
I like the Rotating Commissioner idea a lot. Some of the guys are more interesting than others. Endgame in particular is very interesting.
I want to like the Aethran Overmaster. I really do. He just doesn't fucking get it done in the ring for me.
It seems like the tag team division is actually interesting this year and has well thought out teams. That makes me happy.

I can see about Overmaster. I don't get the helmet when the Glads prided themselves so much on facepaint
One other thing I never got was Patch. I get it that his missing eye is nasty, etc., but with these effed up aliens and demons from other dimensions, I can't see people being freaked out by it

BTW, there are 11 official tag teams in 2126. I believe this is the first time in the NB era that the fed has had more than 8 tag teams. That makes me really happy.
I liked the Leveler.
I disagree with Wildfire on Paganax. I think you could do a lot with him this year and he could be the aCe Paganax. Being aligned with AO isn't the worst thing in the world.
Pendragon and Avarice will fill the void in the upper mid-card if used. Shadowclan will make it 12 tag teams for the year which is even better.

I don't use tag teams in my fed, so Clinch is a single. He's pretty bad ass. I really like his card. Shoot, he's still there, but kinda got the Marty Janetty syndrome. AOM is a beast for me, as are all the Gladiators. I used online to make Turmoil a singles too. Of course I add in the aCe guys and ZT and some POW as well to give my fed what the actual GWF roster can't give me as a whole. I pretty much throw Tom's manual out the window.

I pretty much throw Tom's manual out the window. I decided to go the other way a while back and play as by the book as possible and still make it entertaining (to me, most importantly) and as unique as possible. It's more of a challenge that way. I go the opposite way of most people and go the most "out there" with my legends stuff like Wrestling Superstars: LJN which is a guy playing a game and writing about a kid playing with 80s wrestling figures who may in fact be manipulating the actions of real wrestlers in an alternate reality. You know, just because I think it's fun to do stuff like have Don Muraco quote philosophy. But that's just me.....

I think the highlights of this set for me are the rotating commissioner , The return of Monolith, the new legends team, and Overtime. I could care less about Coven Black but there lots of possibilities for Helsin. Overtime joining the GWF works great for me because he's my current GWFZ champion in 2125 so the transition makes sense. I do think there are way too many guys on the roster and the Infinity challenge is becoming just a dumping ground for guys who Tom has no idea what to do with. After 3 years I think something needs to be done with the Sleeper Cell.

Some of us touched on it and others didn't. What did everyone think of Omega dying? The two founders of the GWF are officially dead in story now.
I knew it was coming one of these sets because it had to but I don't know how I feel ultimately. Kind of sad that Omega is gone in story.

I'm sure it's been a long time since Omega was an active wrestler or even part of the storyline. So it really doesn't affect anything. I think that was added to just go along with the debut of the new star warrior

I'm surprised. The reception to this set seems to be mostly negative. I can't recall that for any other set before.

Yeah, I was thinking that as well. I thought it was a bit better than the last two.. maybe it's a cumlative thing... people have been waiting for some pay off on a few of the long running issues, and that didn't really happen.
