Just finished playing the Knicks/Magic game from 1995 and I think I have a new favorite sports game ever. The way the Greatest games are done is they're presented like NBA Hardwood Classics like you'd see on TV but with the regular 2K commentary team doing the commentary. The presentation mimmicks that of the era (far as I've seen) pretty well and truthfully I can't wait to play the black and white era games or even the 70s/early 80s games. I'd honestly say that if you own a PS3 or 360 (I'm not sure if the NBA Greatest stuff is on the PS2 version) and you like basketball, this is just as worthwhile an investment as 2K11 was. The Greatest mode games are worth the price of admission alone. From what I've checked, Association is the same as last year (except online now!) and that's not a knock. 2K11's Association Mode was my favorite franchise in any sports game.
Edit: Just played the 1998 Spurs-Jazz game. This may be the most fun I've had with any NBA game ever. It's awesome seeing an opening and dishing the ball to Malone and dunking on Tim Duncan or even David Robinson when he tried to step in. I lost the game 79-73 but I had a blast.

More thoughts: - I haven't actually played a game with the current teams yet, I've just been playing through NBA's Greatest.
- The Stockton/Malone combo is as easy and fun to use as they have been in any other basketball game. Malone gets open so easily it's basically effortless to toss it inside and let him throw it down.
- The 85-86 Celtics are a blast to use in this game but they were last year as well. The only complaint from me is the timing for Bird's three point shot is different from last year. It was easy to hit from behind the arc with him last year, not so much now.
- Haven't played as any of the Jordan era Bulls teams yet.
- Dikembe Motumbo is a sick, sick bastard in this game. Literally any shot you put up, he's going to send back unless you're beyond the arc. He completely annihilated Hakeem Olajuwon when I was trying to clear the game to unlock the Rockets and Nuggets. I think once I do, I might be playing a lot of games as the Nuggets just to kill people with Dikembe.
- I think any of the older people who play this game who were watching in the 70s/80s will really like the presentation of the games from that era in 2K12. I've seen a bit of that era on NBA Hardwood Classics and these games look exactly like those broadcasts.
- Steve Kerr on commentary isn't near as bad as I thought he would be.
- Playing AGAINST the Jordan era Bulls as the Bad Boys Pistons is a hell of a lot of fun.

Just got home with my copy of the game. They didn't have Magic or Bird covers so I had to get the one with Jordan. Kind of weird how things like that go. I was at Target and Walmart today and there were plenty of Magic and Bird covers left. Of course, I'm near Chicago so that might have something to do with it.

That makes me wonder how limited those Bird/Magic "Limited Edition" covers are.

Fuck it, I'm not beating the Nuggets with the Rockets. Dikembe Mutombo is an asshole. You can't do ANYTHING inside with him on the court and just when you get momentum, they call a timeout and send his big ass back in. It's like in the old WWF Superstars arcade game when you finally get to Megabucks and you're kicking the shit out of DiBiase and he tags in Andre.

As great as I know this game is; I'll wait until 2K13. Reason being, my entertainment dollar is going to a lot of things the next few months and besides; I still love 2K11 and can't justify buying the next iteration of a game anymore.

I wish I still had 2K11. Here's hoping 2K13 has Reggie Miller and the 90s Pacers.

Fuck it, I'll use this thread to talk about NBA Jam: On Fire Edition. It's a $14.99 downloadable title for the PlayStation 3 and XBOX 360. There's also a $5 pack where you get most of the stuff unlocked, which I also bought. The game is tried and true NBA Jam, but at a decent price and you get about a million times more content with this than you do the $50 retail release from last year. EA should just give up on the sim style basketball games and just put out NBA Jam every year.

Once I get done unlocking all the classic teams, I might go into The Association mode and replace the current teams with every classic team in the game. Sure that means like 7 Bulls teams, but it'll be fun to see if the 95-96 Bulls beat the 92-93 Bulls in a Season Series.

So I did indeed download NBA Jam... loving it. Great mix of current guys, classics, and fun stuff. If anyone wants to play with or against me, my PS3 id is Wildfire2099

I'll add you later. So I went to Walmart this morning and RIGHT THERE in electronics I see the Bird and Magic covers for 2K12 and died a little bit inside. Nothing against Jordan, but I would have much rather had Bird.
