Switch,
I'm not a big NBA fan and have not played a basketball game in years. Back then, I would get super pissed because most of the time I'd win 2-3 games in a row and then the AI would decide it would do whatever it could to prevent another win. It got annoying.
With that said I'm thinking of getting this.
1. Will someone who has not played in 8-10 years find the controls too much a pain in the ass??
2. To unlock the special teams, do you have to play on the harder level.
3. If I get it, where would I find the special slider adjustments.

They'll definitely take some getting used to but it's generally the same control scheme from older basketball games. Square to shoot, triangle to block, X to pass, R2 for turbo. 2.) Nope. You can play the NBA Greatest games on easy and unlock the teams if you want. 3.) They're found in the My NBA menu, or if you have PSN/XBOX Live, you can download ones other people have made and use those.

So now that I've played some...
I greatly prefer the view/set up for the 'be a star' mode than franchise mode (which is massively unusual for me)... I just can't figure out how to do anything but toss up 3s on offense... kinda frustrating.
I am having a blast in be a star, though... Got drafted by the Knicks to back up Melo, and through 13 games have managed to get the coach to play me at 2,3 and 4 as the 6th man. You start pretty terrible (62 overall) but you get skill points every game, and can do drills.. up to 65 already. Very nice set up.

I got drafted to the fucking Pistons and got killed by the Knicks in the playoffs though I did take out Melo with a hard foul. So I think I got the moral victory.

The Pistons? blech. You must have done well with your guy to get them into the playoffs, though. I made my guy a wing player, used the 'scorer' set up with a 6'7'' 205 guy. I've lived up to that so far... getting about 13/game in about 20 minutes, but not many other stats. I did get to be the player of the game once, which was exciting Still haven't managed an 'A' for the team bar thing, though, which vexes me. So far the Celtics are somehow 11 - 2 even though Rondo has missed all but 4 games. My Knicks are 9-4, which is pretty good considering they start the season with Miami, then a killer 7 game west coast trip. So far 10 road games, 3 home.

I got an A+ on several games, lead the league in Assists in my first season and got Rookie of the Year. I averaged like 24 points a game but during the playoffs they limited my time which I didn't understand.

Wow, really? That's impressive. I can't get the computer to credit me with an assist to save my life... seems like they have to go right into the shot after the pass.. if they dribble, forget it.

Yeah, I've noticed that a lot as well. I set up Roy Hibbert (yeah, he got traded to us, and so did Shannon Brown) for a dunk, he gets it, I get no assist and I'm just like, "What the fuck?" I haven't played My Player in a while but last I remember I had like a 72ish overall.

OK. This my player sounds right up my alley. So, does the game just fast forward to when you're in the game? Would this be a good mode for someone who hasn't Played a basketball game in years.

Yeah, actually it is. It'll teach you how to play the game (it penalizes your teammate rating for bad passes and bad shot selection, failing to guard your guy, etc) and will by and large make you much better playing the game outside of My Player. When on the bench, you can skip right ahead to the next time you're in or you can watch the game from the bench.

Yeah, it's really cool. When you're not in, you can watch the game as if you were playing, watch the sim (it shows you each shot on the court as it happens) or it just poofs to either half time, the end of the game, or the next time you go in.
It also has drills you can do to get more points to improve your guy (like Madden does)... you get 2 of those every two weeks... those are nice too.
You also answer a question at the post game conference after every game, which changes your popularity with your team mates, the local fans, and the league, depending on your answer... generally there's 1 cocky answer, 1 'win first' answer, 1 'team first' answer, and 1 silly one.

Got drafted by the Sixers. I suck. Can't get by a guy but I'm starting to get the hang of shooting. It's a pain in the ass to get an assist.

Had 'Melo go down with an injury last night... he's out 4 weeks. Inexplicably, the computer coach started Rolando Blackman (who was getting DNP-CDs) instead of me for the 1st game, but I'm listed as the starter now, so I'm excited.. prolly will play a couple games after the Celtics tonight.
Dribbling by people is near impossible, unless you faster than they are, or you get a pick.. at least I think so. Maybe Switch knows a trick.

I really haven't had the ball stolen from me outside of people snatching passes out of the air that they had no logical way of doing.

Really? happens to me all the time... my guy dribbles off his foot sometimes... gets stripped, etc. Maybe because you're a point guard you have better stats for that stuff.
