Depends on what you want. If you want a video game with updated rosters and a host of rad as fuck classic teams, get 2K12. If you want a game that's probably more statistically accurate, get SOM.

I've always liked Statis Pro alot better than SOM for basketball.. especially the newer Base-10 system.
I think I'd stick with the video games, though.... either way, it really takes forever to make any progress on a season.

If I go with SOM, it would be the PC version.

SOM basketball is like a game of chess. You have to manage your rotation, maximize your match ups, exploit mismatches that you find and realize that you can do every single thing right under the sun and some games those shots just aren't going to fall and you're going to lose. You'll also need to know when to press on defense and when to run the break and stuff.
A video game version gets repetitive to me after awhile and you can really game the system as a GM and win a lot. In SOM you're really bound by the talent on your team and you might take that 33 win team and win 40 or 41 games but you're not going to win the NBA Title or anything.

I bought NBA 2K12 tonight (Larry Bird cover), but I still plan to go with SOM eventually.
2K12 is such a beautiful game, but I still have a good bit to learn.

Anybody with SOM basketball for the computer get the NBA 120 greatest players set? If it was available in cards too I might get it just to have.
