www.ign.com/articles/2012/10/08/wwe-13-a-wrestling-legend-finds-his-universe"Details matter in wrestling video games, and they aren’t just limited to rosters and storyline modes. In fact they matter most when it comes to THQ's never-ending, career-simulating Universe Mode. More than re-creating the Attitude Era or playing with superstars that haven’t been in their prime in 15 years, many of the die-hard fans of this genre of game care most about taking control of WWE programming - developing whatever ideas their hearts desire. For WWE ’13, THQ’s upgrades involve more options, more customization - and the involvement of one of wrestling’s most influential figures. While the name Paul Heyman might not resonate with casual fans the way John Cena or The Rock might, to the hardcore wrestling audience his name means much more - and he is far more influential. Just slightly outside the mainstream eye, Heyman revolutionized the world of sports entertainment in the late ‘90s with the original ECW, which took wrestling to its extreme - literally. Through its fast-paced, more abrasive mannerisms, and its signature violent matches, ECW paved the way for WWE’s Attitude Era, which very much borrowed from Heyman’s brilliant vision and execution. Given his legacy, it makes perfect sense that THQ would turn to Heyman to help adapt Attitude Era’s storylines into WWE ’13. On top of that, the former head of ECW, and current WWE on-air personality, helped write and guide some of the 200-plus new storylines that are being incorporated into the endless simulation that is Universe Mode. “I am a believer that interactivity is the future,” Heyman told IGN, emphasizing his enthusiasm for WWE '13. “The more the gamer can control the environment, and choose which way they can take the experience, the more cutting edge your product will be.” Heyman noted his efforts to recreate the Attitude Era focused mostly on taking the storylines from over a decade ago and finding ways to present them with more modern sensibilities. “It’d be what an Attitude Era fan would relate to but what a modern day fan would understand is current and not just nostalgia,” Heyman said. “If you just come back and recreate from 15 years ago, you’re not really offering much. If you present the Attitude Era as a modern day concept, then you’re doing something that’s new.” Given that he effectively created the blueprints for what WWE did back then, Heyman said stepping into this role was easy. “You know if McDonald’s is making Chicken McNuggets, and another company comes out with a nugget... you know the formula being used!” Heyman’s efforts with Universe Mode focused on finding broad story ideas that gamers will then be able to manipulate to their hearts’ desires, placing an emphasis on the interactive nature of WWE '13. While he noted that writing for a game is easier than writing for television, Heyman said his fundamental approach here was the same as it always was. THQ’s additions to Universe Mode extend beyond Heyman’s collaboration. Gamers will now not only be able to control what types of stories can play a role in their simulation - turning off injuries or narratives that break up tag teams - but program their shows for any day of the week, or delete shows entirely. Each recurring show can have its own superstar roster, belts, arenas, match-up screens and more adjusted. There’s less emphasis on conforming to what the WWE does now, and more thought towards allowing gamers to do anything they would want. But if a player’s modifications eventually get a bit cumbersome or confusing, Universe Mode now has the option of being completely reset." THANK GOD

Decided my Universe this year is gonna be straight up Attitude. RAW on Monday, SmackDown on Thursday and HeAT on Saturday (can't overlap it with a PPV, which doesn't bother me at all). The only things I'm carrying over from modern WWE are Brock Lesnar, Daniel Bryan and 2004 Cena, then after DLC I'll add Claudio Castagnoli to the mix.
Can't wait to pick this up at midnight and start killing fools with Gangrel.

We're officially one week away from release and my hype has died down considerably...probably due to me watching 20+ hours of 1998 WWF in one weekend, and that I just got King of Colosseum II again. I'll probably be hyped as all hell next Monday night, but as of right now...I'm not all that excited. Probably doesn't help that Attitude Era mode doesn't have the actual audio from the broadcasts like they promise.

Went with a buddy who picked this up at midnight. Played some of the game, here's some thoughts:
PROS: - Attitude Era mode, while it takes liberties in some cases, is pretty sweet and anyone who lived through that era will like this mode, I think. - Gameplay is like last year, which is fine since I liked WWE 12 to a degree. - The Attitude arenas are largely recreated faithfully.
MEH: - Commentary isn't much better than last year. They were full of shit saying they overhauled it. - The crowds are weird and overly loud, but they don't particularly react to anything.
CONS: - Catching finishers are FUCKING BROKEN. You can do them while you're on the ground. So hey, no worries. Your opponent's about to hit you with a flying elbow? Nah, press triangle and you get a finisher for free. You teleport to your feet to hit it. Bullshit. - If you don't buy the DLC to unlock everything, you're gonna want to rip your nuts off by the end of the Rise of DX Chapter in Attitude Era mode. Doing the historical objectives is cool, but doing five of them in one match to unlock something as trivial as Debut Kane lighting sucks. - Attitude Era mode AI ranges from manageable to bullshit. The NAO/LOD match is terrible because the AI will stop at nothing to make sure you don't hit Hawk with one of the tag belts, and the referee only stays down for about 10 seconds. - The camera angles suck. Flat out, they'll screw you over more often than not. Turn them off. - Some guys (Bret) have inaccurate themes, and it's completely inexcusable. - They added in a ton of new moves...and yet everyone shares the same general move set.

So, no shock but apparently the Community Creations servers suck ass again this year.

Yeah they were working awesome on release day but have fallen into a slump. I'm thinking this is the last of the WWE games from THQ since they are having financial troubles yet again.
Great game other than CC sucking. Can't wait for Ryback to destroying everyone in my Universe on his path to the World Championship. FEED HIM MORE!

Contemplating picking this up if I get a PS3 again soon, but honestly the AI in this game is so terrible I'd rather just stick with WWE 12. Better match flow and better AI. Not to mention the 12 servers are apparently working pretty good now.

I've been playing with the slider settings and it have given me some pretty dramatic matches as far as the AI is concerned. I currently have a WCW, WWE and ECW Universe going. WCW/TNA roster on Mondays and Thursdays, WWE have Tuesdays and Fridays and ECW on Wednesday.
ECW is my best show of the lot and of course I swap out PPV's for each. The big ones WWE get and then the others go to WCW & ECW for their shows.
