It's been suggested that I broach this subject here on the LP, as there are some diehard, and extremely knowledgeable fans of the franchise.
I've tried playing around with it, and find it a little overwhelming, especially the CAW function. However, some of you surely know more about than I do. So, sell me on the game.
Thanks in advance for any insight you can offer.

Well, if you like a game that basically gives you complete customization, it's either Fire Pro Returns on PS2 or WWE 12. Fire Pro Returns has FIVE HUNDRED Create-a-Wrestler spots, you can create rings, titles, factions, referees. The gameplay has a steep learning curve and admittedly it's more fun to watch matches than play them, that's probably the biggest downfall. But with that said, matches can still be fun to play, it's just I've been simming them so long that I don't really like playing anymore. There's a lot of silly quirks with the FP gameplay (after 15 minutes even if you haven't taken damage, you're considered worn out so your opponent can slap on a submission and win, camera angle means stupid ropebreaks, you have to line up strikes which takes time to learn), but it's a fun game.
Also, if you have a USB Drive and the Action Replay MAX, you can download CAW packs and virtually have whatever match you want plus it negates any reason you'd have to mess with the CAW mode.
But if you want a game that lets you do basically everything Fire Pro does, but with much simpler gameplay and honestly better, and simpler create options (albeit FAR less moves for your created guys), check out WWE 12.

Switch knows his games and he is pretty spot on here. My brother and I are big time FP fans (we used to play it on the Sega Saturn with the converter) and play on the GBA and PS2. When you get good at FP, it is loads of fun. I really enjoy the super deep CAW (which is WAY better in English then Japanese). But,as I said, Switch nailed it

I remember searching for like YEARS after seeing the Saturn game in GameFan Magazine and when I finally got it, a Saturn and the converter, I was freakin' blown away. Same feeling I had when I got the first FPW for the Game Boy Advance. So much fun. I remember when it hit me the guys in the games were actual wrestlers and I was like "Wow, I made all these CAWs for no reason"

The best part of the Japanese game was that the translation of the names were the fake names they had. Many a party was spent playing. But my wife is still banned from using the Boston crab as Vader

Vader is so brutal in those games. Like, most of the stuff he does can result in a Critical.
