We're just about at the halfway point between 2129 and the release of 2130, and one of the advantages of being snowed in and frozen in for the past several days is that I've had plenty of time to review what's gone on during the Black Death era and catch up on playing.
One thing I can't help but notice, and if I was writing it I would definitely follow up, is that it seems like The Three, who were from another dimension come to take over this one and spread hatred and death, seem to have been infected by humanity instead. They're taking on human emotions and pettiness and losing sight of the goal. Once they took physical bodies they were subject to the same physical laws and emotions as humanity. I think this should be their undoing.
Another obvious one to me is that Endgame is NOT infected by the Black Death. He has no Black Death powers and seems to be a disrupting force among the ranks. I wonder if he has infiltrated on the side of the heroes, or if he is just taking the excuse of Black Death to let out years of frustrations and has his own agenda.
Also, Alpha Female is hard not to sympathize with. If you were going to pick one character who may be justified in giving in to inner rage, it's her. The Aethran culture treats women like second class citizens, they're always an afterthought, and she finally rebelled. It gets harder and harder to see her as a villain.
Furthermore, the pieces are in place for a full-on Masked Assassins revival. One of the personas of Betrayer is dubbed "Deathmasque", there's a new Splatter, and then there are masked guys like Ensor and maybe even the new Bishop Hell who would fit right into the theme. All we need is a new Head Assassin to lead them. I think a new Titans versus Assassins feud is imminent.
2130 is supposed to be a pretty big departure in terms of storytelling and events according to very early teasers Tom has dropped on social media, and the 2129 6-pack released a few weeks ago shows some signs of going lighter in tone with a lack of Black Death characers, so I'm very interested in seeing if it lives up to the hype.

I've enjoyed Black Death for the most part. But I would like to see back to the basics once this set is in the mirror.

Definitely less Sci-Fi and more regular wrestling would be nice.

Definitely less Sci-Fi and more regular wrestling would be nice. To me asking that COTG be more "realistic" and less sci-fi is baffling. That is the entire premise; it's intergalactic wrestling in the future. I want that stuff to get as far out there as Tom Filsinger can write it. I want his handbooks to read like Jim Starlin Marvel "space opera" comics from the 70s. Doctor Strange in the ring. Darkseid with a cool finisher. When I want regular wrestling I play Legends, ROH, Chikara, or one of the real-life brands. Now, with that written, I WOULD like to see all of the wrestlers' storylines have a beginning, middle, and end. I hate it when characters come in with all of this promise and a hinted at big story, and then fizzle and disappear (Mother Superior and Sultana come immediately to mind). BUT that horse has been beaten relentlessly already and I believe the message was received.

By less "sci fi", I'm taking him to mean every threat the galaxy has has to come to the GWF to end the battle for the galaxy to be saved.

[/quote] I was just commenting on what is specifically stated, which is "less sci-fi" and does not speak to a specific story but to entire elements of the game. My observation doesn't just go for this post. I have also seen someone write that he would not use a character like Comrade Terror because lizard men are "unrealistic". It makes me wonder why someone like that would buy the game after seeing the original advertisements.

Oh I don't mind the sci fi characters and stuff, but like Trav, this new threat that will destroy the galaxy (how many times have we had that since 2115?) is getting tedious.
So maybe I'm just hoping for a different direction and a lighter tone.

I also think a radically different story is in order coming out of something so heavy.

I would like to get back to the old days, like the first set. Great, and sci-fi type, characters without the fate of the galaxy in the balance. Just great, unique characters from across the cosmos doing battle within the confins of the rings of the GWF

As much as I love the original GWF style, I'm not a backwards thinking guy. That style was good, but it's been done. I want to see what new and unique directions this thing can take. I'd like to see it go completely inter-dimensional. I want to see different battle fields. I want a super powerful Guardian card when they're in his dimension, and the one we have now when he's here. I want Black Death cards where a guy transforms into some sort of light being and fights the good fight when he's separated from his mortal body, but gets bogged down in the dregs of humanity and reverts to Black Death rage when he's back in this dimension. I'd love it to become like the New Gods and Doctor Strange rolled into one with elements of Grant Morrison's Invisibles.
Alas, I'm aware enough to admit that I'm in the minority on that one.

I would actually like to see the roster bloat up again. Maybe get a good 60 man roster going. Build some compelling mid-card feuds. Remember guys exist outside of debut years.
I also think it's time to being the press conferences back.

More like the direction aCe was going? I always thought, at the time, there were three different ways the game was taking: a pure sci fi approach with aCe; the more traditional /grounded in realism with CPC/POW and a mixture of both with the GWF. Whatever the reason, Mark left and aCe was an afterthought. I thought it made good balance

I think it all came down to sales. aCe and CPC were not selling nearly as much as GWF/Legends/etc. so Tom dropped them. Don't know if that's the case, but with all the stuff already out there, I'm kind of glad CPC and aCe are no more.

Wrong. True they didn't sell as much as GWF and LOW, but wrong that Tom dropped them. Mark and Kris dropped them.

I wanted to add. I think Shayne is the best character that's been added to the game in a really long time.
