I miss when ROH and New Japan's booking didn't make me want to throw a fridge through someone's garage door.

Yeah, New Japan took a giant dive off a cliff this year.

Match quality wise, it's been really great. Booking wise...I don't get it. Shibata and Goto forced down the card to fill the void because Kojima and Tenzan are eternally feuding with shitty NWA guys, AJ needing mad run ins to beat Okada only to (presumably) lose the belt back three weeks later. Okada has no top challengers anymore except maybe Naito. Shibata's beyond wrecked, Goto is done, Machine Gun's not a threat anymore, Tanahashi is gone from the main event, Nakamura is a one match program at best. Ishii will never get a serious push, Honma is in the same boat, Kojima's too old, Tenzan's a zombie, Nakanishi should have retired last year. They've done such a magnificent job of killing off so many potential top contenders. They're my favorite promotion in the world but holy shit.

The NWA shit is beyond stupid. I could understand if the NWA had some interesting guys to send over there but it's Rob Conway and more Rob Conway. Certainly not what you want to waste Tenzan and Kojima on. I mean I guess Okada/Takahashi is the their next big feud? I don't know. I think I'd give Styles 3-4 months with the belt just to have some fresh matches on top.

And for annoying as they've been this year. They did have a run from 2007-2013 with really good booking. That's amazing by any standard.

When Stephanie McMahon was attractive. Feel free to contribute whatever it is you miss. I still think Stephanie is attractive... Though I liked her better when she was a little chunkier. ... Don't judge me.

Certainly not what you want to waste Tenzan and Kojima on. I mean I guess Okada/Takahashi is the their next big feud? I don't know. I think I'd give Styles 3-4 months with the belt just to have some fresh matches on top. Well at this point, having Tenzan in the ring at all is wasting Tenzan. The 2013 G1 proved that. Yujiro/Okada seems like a likely title match for 6/21 in Osaka, but there's also the Naito/Fale match which could lead to one of those two being Okada's first challenger. Styles can't be the champ long term because, as far as I know, he doesn't have a contract, he's just committed to a few tours and I'm sure they don't want to risk AJ pulling a Brock, however unlikely that would be. It's such a wasteland right now, that upper midcard scene. Can't have Machine Gun since he's a tag guy, can't have Gallows for the same reason, Davey Boy Jr. will never get a shot so there goes the top 3 gaijin under AJ. Shibata and Goto are now tag guys so there goes one of the most credible threats (Shibata) and the yearly threat (Goto). Nakamura's a good pick because it seems like Chaos is about to disband but do you put Nakamura/Okada on as a main event any earlier than October in the Sumo Hall? I'm not sure I would. Minoru Suzuki's not getting a shot again, Makabe probably isn't. If they're smart, Shelton Benjamin stays away from NJPW as a whole, not just the IWGP Title. I've seen some people arguing that Elgin could come over and challenge because New Japan were impressed with him in Toronto and NYC. Elgin's a relative (that is to say, complete) unknown to the Japanese fans even if they do air Elgin/Watanabe and Elgin/AJ/Okada prior to his first tour. And for annoying as they've been this year. They did have a run from 2007-2013 with really good booking. That's amazing by any standard. There was some head-scratch worthy shit in 08-09, like Muto having the belt for nearly a year. Feel free to contribute whatever it is you miss. I still think Stephanie is attractive... Though I liked her better when she was a little chunkier. ... Don't judge me.[/quote] Me too, buddy. Me too.

Elgin isn't the kind of guy that I would see New Japan putting the belt on. His power wrestler shit works on the indy scene here because most guys are small. But the Japanese crowd expect guys like Scott Norton when gaijin power wrestlers come through the promotion. I don't see them being super accepting of him.

I think he'd be just fine in New Japan, just not a credible threat to the heavyweight title. He'd be fine in the undercard with guys like Ishii and Honma...and Shibata since he's never getting past midcard level as a singles guy.

Oh yeah. He would be fine as a mid-card guy or teaming with Anderson or Smith. I don't think he's the kind of guy that they would get behind as a main event threat.

They won't replace Gallows as Machine Gun's partner and Smith is apparently headed to Global Force (because when I see a ship sinking before it gets off the dock, I jump on that motherfucker) so they're gonna need new gaijin who are good. Elgin fits that bill.
