So ran two cards today. One was the first episode for my ROH Season 2 fed and then a House Show for my Maple Leaf Legends of Wrestling. Both shows were not great at all. The dice blew through the undercard so fast and the only matches that were any good was the Main Event on ROH and the non title match between TV Champ Brody and Powers.
So this brings me to my question(s). How many of you have had some cards that looked exciting to play on paper but when you ran the shows they tanked horribly and made for piss poor story telling? When you envision your show as it would be had it been a actual LIVE event does it make you disgusted and blow the wind out of your sails a bit? And up to this point. Worst show or match that you had high hopes for? Go!

Have had it a ton of times. But that's when I think you can use your imagination. I remember Tom had a GWF card that went wonky and he said the fans rioted and it had to be rescheduled. I've had cards where all but one or two of the matches ended in DQ or Countout. If that happens a couple of times in a row I'll have the commissioner tighten the screws and make all the matches in the next few cards no DQ/Countout. I think you just have to imagine a way around it in your mind. And saying that it was an awful card is perfectly acceptable.

Some of my most spontaneious writing comes from a snake eyes or a quick DQ. In MMA, no one ever calls a quick KO a DUD. Instead it's considered super exciting. I look at a quick loss in the GWF as the same. Nothing wrong with a guy like Overmaster catching you on the wrong night and knocking you out in under a minute. Plus like you said, that's what rematches are for.

Worst show or match that you had high hopes for? Go! Recently my first Minister of War vs. Overmaster match, this coming after Paralyze turned on Overmaster and joined Future Shock. So I was hoping for a big brawl, but Vengeance won quick with AETHRAN MASSACRE. Cool thing is no one Gladiator has kicked out of it yet.

One match on the House Show was British Champion: Lou Thez against William Muldoon. I wasn't expecting Thez to lose the title (it was on the line) but I also didn't expect how quickly the match came to an end. It was maybe 4 moves in and a double wrist lock that sealed the match. Sure enough the snake eyes came up on the roll and now Muldoon and Thez are in a heated confrontation over the quick loss that makes Muldoon look like a this was his first dance in the squared circle. That didn't bother me. But it is when you have those cards that when you step back from it and look at it overall. It comes off as not the greatest card to be in attendance for.
With my GWF fed. I am pretty alright with quick matches given the competitors and the magnitude of the federation on topic.
Speaking of riots: I had a feud a couple years ago in my Maple Leaf Fed that was The Ortons vs. The Italian Stallions (Argentina Rocca and Ilio DiPaolo) who were managed by Capt. Lou at the time. It was hot! The feud was at a fever pitch and the match was awesome but then a dirty move near the end cheapened it enough that the crowd wanted blood and it was The Ortons blood they wanted. I wrote into the back story that The Ortons had to go to Japan and compete for a while until the legit heat with the fans of Toronto cooled off since they were getting death threats and everything. The police escort just wasn't enough. The Stallions are heavily revered by the Little Italy population of Toronto. Losing for them in Toronto is something that can go wrong for a feuding team. I found it funny when after the Orton fiasco that any team they went up against for four or five cards after that were quick wins for them. Now the populace are a little more docile and forgiving if their team loses since they don't get booked as much as they use to. They did have a massive feud with Fuji and Saito after Captain Lou turned on them. That cause a whole lot of ruckus that finally they were taken off the roster. I have them wrestling in my Japan fed now.
