Man, I hope they change the name. Thrashers sucked to begin with, but Winnipeg Thrashers sounds even worse.

They need to go back to the Winnipeg Jets, simple and to the point...

They need to go back to the Winnipeg Jets, simple and to the point... I'm sure that will be a popular choice, but the Coyotes probably still own the rights to that name... But since the NHL owns the Coyotes, that might make resolving the matter easier.

The NHL holds the rights to Jets but could give it up. It would be the best choice to me. However, the company buying them own the Manitoba Moose and it's looking possible theyll name the NHL team that.

"Manitoba Moose"? That's worse the Thrashers. Hell, that's worse then Bluejackets.

You're leaving money on the table if you don't figure out a way to name this team the Winnipeg Jets, frankly.

You're leaving money on the table if you don't figure out a way to name this team the Winnipeg Jets, frankly. Exactly! Not sure how you figure that. The Jets left fifteen years ago do to money. If their name was such a big deal, they would've been making huge money off their name and never left in the first place. In addition, the Manitoba Moose is one of the top minor league hockey teams when it comes to selling merchandise and they'd sell more product across the board as the Moose. That hardcore fans will rush out and get Jets gear but the casual public won't give a shit.

You know, the Thrashers is not as stupid a name as one would think...the city of Atlanta was actually founded by a guy named John Thrasher, and was originally called 'Thrasherville'.
I kid you not, there's a big plaque next to the arena in downtown Atlanta.
That said, I'm sure they'll have a new nickname. I like history, so I'd be happy to have it be the Jets, but something more marketable would be understandable.

The Brown Thrash is also the state bird of Georgia.
And Havoc, after the Jets moved to Phoenix there has been non-stop action from the people of Winnipeg and Manitoba to bring them back. And it has been a constant piece of the rhetoric that any team which was moved to Winnipeg would have to be the Jets. I can't see either team selling much merchandise at all "across the board" but in the Canadian market where all the Canadian teams sell the vast majority of their merch the Jets name holds a lot of value and would be better from a marketing standpoint than Moose.
Manitoba Moose sounds like a minor league hockey team name because it is a minor league hockey team name. I love our local team (Greenville Road Warriors) but no NHL team is going to carry a moniker like "Road Warriors."
When the NFL came back to Cleveland there was no chance of them not being the Browns. I think this is a similar situation here.
That said, this is all speculation until anything official is announced.

The NHL has been trying to force feed hockey in the South for years and it usually doesn't work. The NHL has never quite figured out that it has a limited fan base. And essentially abandoning Canada while making a run at fringe markets is just odd. But I will give the NHL credit, they are at least trying to expand its base and realizing when it is time to cut the cord. That is miles ahead of what the half-wits running MLB are doing.

This is old school, but damn cool. Now that is a excellent Old School Jersey, I love that teams keep the Classic look but with a modern touch like this one...
