This is something I've been thinking about for a long time, and plan to finally put into action sometime soon. What I call COTG Supreme rules, that are simple, and designed to add another layer to every game playing card by expanding on the ch charts, (c) option, and charts.
The idea is inspired by the 2087 Thantos, who had no out of the ring option on his card. I know how this did not abide by what soon became official card design rules, but I loved it. As a kid, I just thought Thantos was the guy who wanted to keep his opponent inside the ring, and humiliate them by winning with MASTERLOCK. Aftrer all, that's how most of his matches went. The bad guy who didn't need to risk a DQ or count out, who didn't need to cheat outside of the ring, and who would beat you with his wrestling. He was the best!
There were other characters like this. Man-Mountain had no deathjump. Good. I liked that. It made sense. Now if a big guy has poor agility he automatically gets strapped with a (ch G). That limits the things you can do with that card if every wrestler was only assigned 3 of the 4 charts. So that is where I begin.
RULE 1 - Every wrestler uses only 3 of the 4 charts.
Eliminating one from each wrestler is subjective, but should be realistic to their character and persona.
The best way so far seems to be to eliminate whatever chart they are worst at (thus avoiding any nasty reversals throwing someone good into the ropes when they suck at ropes for example). So if Chaos Supreme has a C deathjump, you would ignore any attempts by him to try one of his own (including any Ch G - more on this later).
Another example is Overtime has a C ring, so he would in turn never throw anyone out of the ring himself.
If a guy has no C's, eliminate a B of your choice based on their pw, ag, or whatever else you think makes most sense.
SO WHAT DO I SUBSTITUTE FOR THE ELIMINATED CHART OPTION?
ropes and turnbuckle become a - 2 move of your choice from the game card.
deathjump and out of the ring become a - 3 (but not a - 3 Add 1) move of your choice from the game card.
Ch chart moves - see expanded ch chart rule no.2
RULE 2 - EXPANDED CH CHARTS
Let's face it, the only thing stopping us from having A-Z instead of A-G are giant charts. They would never fit into the envelope.
I'm working on expanded ch charts A-Z, to really expand on some dice rolling. The current A-G chart will automatically correlate to this new one (A will cover A-E, B will cover (F-J) etc and so on. Hard to explain but makes sense in my head.
With the help of rule one, expanded ch charts will provide even more depth for each card. Instead of an auto ch G for a big guy maybe be has a submission choice he can try vs. a man of his same size, instead of trying to throw him around. Lots of ways you can go here.
RULE 3 - Adding D's to chart ratings.
A,B,C and then D I think would really separate the men from the boys. You could really reserve A for the the best the best in each area and D for the worst. C would no longer be the kiss of death. A guy with all B's would be considered very good.
My plan is to try this using the 2087 cards to start. I have no idea when I'll find the time but I'm eager to try it.
It's not a way to make the game better (the game is perfect), it's more or less my curious mind at work always trying to expand on the characters personalities (which I think are best represented in their stats).
I'm not sure anyone's W/L records will change much as a results of these 3 rules, but I think it will give me some unique matches where I'm not always using every chart every match and give me twice the ch chart choices (which I like) than I'm used to.
Thoughts?
