Well, for those who didn't now, AAA will be presenting Lucha Libre (in English) on MTV2 at 10 PM on Friday nights. The first episode is supposed to debut in about 11 mins (in the East)

Not missing much. The hour had 3 matches and about 23 minutes of wrestling all told. MTV2 is all commercials, all the time!

Wow, after they gave up on WSX so quickly, I wouldn't have expected MTV to give wrestling another shot.
Once of these days I have to try to find some time to watch some Lucha stuff...

Tonight's episode had better be better than the first one or no one will be watching week #3! 20 minutes of show and 40 minutes of commercials - what a joke!

I'll have to see if I get MTV2 these days... Comcast likes to swap stuff in an out without telling me... At the beginning of April the swapped out ESPN Classic for some all College Football station.. I was PISSED... I miss my mid-80s AWA reruns

I have Direct TV and they did the same thing. They swapped ESPN Classic for ESPNU.

OK, so keep in mind I've never really watched Lucha, and have only a basic understanding of how it works Show opened with a promo spot, which featured bad promo delivery and much confusion... describing who the heck these people are would be good. First match was a 'mixed' tag match (one regular guy and one midget)... the good guy midget wore black, and the bad guy white, just to be varietious. Decent match... not great workrate... the Midgets were entertaining. The good guy's name didn't stick in my head, and he's not on the web site.. but he had a rich guy gimmick. The good guy was pretty boring, but the bad guy, Rellik had a pretty cool look... sorta a Gladiator riff. The good guys won when the white midget rolled up the black midget. The match ran about 8 minutes or so. Sydistiko was interviewed... apparently he claimed it wasn't him in the attack in the first segment... he came off as pretty creepy, which is good for a rudo 2nd Match: Lizmark Jr./Sydistiko Vs. Charley Malice/Supernova Lizmark and Sydistiko are apparently really bad dudes... the announcers put them over heavy, they got the win when Rellik came out and distracted the Techincos, who were on a roll. Supernova was apparently the guy who got attacked in the open, and they played that up. The Heel announce defintely need some work... he's very deadpan most of the time, then suddenly he runs off a mini-tirade on the good guys. Bunch of highlights from last week... good that they're trying to build stories. The commercials are indeed rough... two sets between each match so far. Promo from RJ Brewer... he's from Phoenix, and he apparently hates Mexicans, and doesn't wear a mask. "I build fences, not bridges' I would have swore it was Trav if he had a mask on Why he's in Lucha Libre he doesn't say, but the Mexicans call him out, which is good He then gets into it back stage with Magno (who has a clear Mexican accent) to lead into the main event.... but first another commercial or two. Magno over RJ Brewer over DQ Magno did some flying.. Brewer did a cool spot where he went to the top rope, then wagged his finger at the crowd and hopped back down. Ref bump ending... Brewer missed a chair shot, them Magno took off his mask and tossed it to Brewer just as the ref got up... good thing them mentioned that's a DQ about 80 times earlier Not too bad overall... you can tell it's a low budget, C show, but it was kinda fun to watch anyway. Definitely annoying with the commercials, though, I recommend taking out CoTG or something while watching

Last Sunday I stayed at a friend's in Hazleton after Sportsfest. I stumbled across a Lucha documentary on a spanish channel, which basically gave you the rundown of this new tv show. It was an alright primer.

MTV2 ran an informational companion program prior to the showing of the debut. They briefly talked about the history of Lucha Libre and introduced the main wrestlers. I believe you can watch it on the website. I'm a little bothered that not all the wrestlers featured have bios on the website. Makes it a little difficult to follow.
Rellik is the former Johnny The Bull in WCW, WWE, TNA. You may also notice that Marco Corleone is the former Mark Jindrak from WCW. Jindrak has been wrestling in Mexico since leaving WCW and showed he knows some Spanish as he argued with a Mexican wrestler in Spanish prior to his match in the debut episode.
The show is actually put together similarly to the AAA/CMLL shows I've watched on the Spanish television channels. A lot of cheesy promos, very soap opera-like. Although, this show is a little more Americanized. You can definitely tell MTV's influence.
The announcers suck. I was really hoping for them to find some announcers that actually knew what they were talking about. I know there has to be at least one bilingual Lucha Libre announcer that could be brought in to add a little more Lucha to the broadcast team.
Overall, I think the show is ok. I'm afraid that any novice fan might write it off as lame based on what they're used to watching on American wrestling. I have a feeling it costs MTV quite a bit of money to produce this show and they have to make up some of that with advertising revenue, hence the many commercials.

Marco Corlene wasn't on the show, I proabably would have recognized him!
I vaguely remember Johnny the Bull... that's neat.
The announcers did indeed suck, but maybe they'll get better. I thought the promos were pretty decent, the open was just confusing.. they didn't make it clear who was who and who was on whose side.
I'll watch it again if I'm around... it was decent.

The announcer will NOT get better, unless they get replaced. MTV is dead set that those type of announcers are "what sells" or "what the kids want" - case in point: WSX!~
