I was just throwing that out there. It was a good match, but I thought the Kings of Wrestling vs. The Motor City Machine Guns is higher up. Whatever, it makes good discussion points.
Still looking forward to seeing the Danielson vs. Shingo match.

KOW/MCMG was awesome, and I'd agree it probably deserves to be higher but the DQ finish leaves a bad taste in the mouth of the viewer though it leaves plenty on the table for a rematch.

Still looking forward to seeing the Danielson vs. Shingo match. Which, while DGUSA is releasing a DVD of this, apparently just aired on TV in Japan. Would rather watch it with Japanese commentary than Lenny Leonard/whoever Gabe's got doing DGUSA commentary now.

Figured I'd do this writeup because I had nothing else to do, but I've got a new #1 for the year.
Bryan Danielson vs. Shingo; DGUSA 7/24:
A general rule of thumb for me since DGUSA's inception has been don't believe the hype until you see it. Davey Richards vs. Shingo from last year is a perfect example of this. It was a good match, but live reports suggested it was the match of the year. It wasn't.
As noted earlier in the thread, there has been a fair amount of hype surrounding this match, and even a PWI article saying it's a strong match of the year contender. I originally thought, "Great, another OMG DGUSA MOTY that's really going to top out at good. As it turns out, the PWI article was right, but I think it's more than a contender, I do think this was the best match this year.
When you look at the potential winners of Match of the Year, each of them stand out for one specific reason. Shawn/Taker was the end of Shawn's career and had a lot of emotion and meaning to everything done (with the exception of a few things), Richards/Black was the token ROH "Match of the Year" that had just about everything you could ask from the two guys. I'm not even sure what TNA's Match of the Year is, maybe Angle/Jeff from September.
The point is, those matches stand out. So does this one. I guess by default, Danielson vs. a guy who can throw him around and beat him up is a winning formula to me. The crowd starts off being semi-split with the dueling "Let's go Dragon!/Let's go Shingo!" chants. As the match wears on, Shingo works more like a heel, getting the crowd to boo him.
Pretty much everything you'd want is here. They hit each other hard, both guys hit their key moves, and Danielson does a lot of nifty submissions that Shingo has to counter and in a few cases, actually does.
The thing that got the #1 spot for this match was the ending five or so minutes where everything just broke down and they unloaded pretty much every big move you could want from them with the exception of a rolling elbow from Danielson but I digress.
I gave this a lot of thought both while watching the match and updating the list. The match stands out for a different reason than the others listed earlier. It's not just a great story, and it's not just the token dark horse pick, it's just flat out good. I might go back and rewatch Go/Kensuke again, but for right no (and probably forever), this is my match of the year.

Couple more matches that seem like they could move onto the top 40:
Young Bucks vs. American Wolves (ROH on HDnet Episode #36) & Bryan Danielson vs. Roderick Strong (ROH on HDnet Episode #35)
Didn't see them on you list and they are both outstanding matches.

Yeah I have them on the best of DVD vol 4 , but I forgot when they aired or were taped. Been hard to stay on top of those kinda things since our son passed away in August of 2009. Life has different priorities. And the fact that I got to watch any wrestling was only because I was up early do to having a nasty cold and not being allowed near my new daughter yesterday morning. Either those were both very good matches. I really appreeciate that ROH is will to put that quality of match on a show, especially when it is taped. The TV title match that happened on 12/1, but won't air until whenever, is supposed to be good. It is nice to see Daniels back in the fold.

For what it's worth, I had that Bucks/Wolves match at like #4 last year. Really good match. Danielson/Roddy was on the list but I don't think it was top 10 or 15.

Ok, this may not crack the list, but Daniel Bryan vs. William Regal from RAW on 12/20 was one of the best wrestling matches I have seen on RAW in a while. The best part was CM Punk calling the match, because >GASP< he actually used real wrestling hold names! When was the last time anyone on WWE or TNA said cravate?

Well, I hate to say it, but Taz used both cravate and "modified cravate" over the last two episodes of Impact. I forget what match he called a cravate in but the modified cravate was Tara vs Mickie in the cage. What I like best about Punk's commentary is that he calls a lariat a lariat and a clothesline a clothesline!

Punk also was not a heel or face announcer, he was backing who he liked. It was a nice change of pace from the Cole and Lawler banter.

I was actually going to bring up the mentions on iMPACT, was trying to separate the recent TNA I've watched from the old TNA DVDs I've been watching as of late. I like Punk as a commentator for the reason you mentioned. He's neither face nor heel, he merely backs who he likes, sort of like Sean Mooney in a way, except Punk's not terrible.
