Yeah. When?: This Saturday night at 8 PM EST. Where?: Manhattan Center. How To Watch: gofightlive.tvHow Much?: $14.95 The Card:ROH World Title Match- No DisqualificationTyler Black defends vs. Roderick Strong with Truth Martini *Terry Funk will be the special ringside enforcerDream Tag Team MatchThe Kings of Wrestling w/ Shane Hagadorn vs. Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas Double Chain MatchKevin Steen and Steve Corino vs. El Generico and Colt Cabana World TV Title MatchEddie Edwards (if still champion, and he will be) defends vs. Shawn Daivari with Prince Nana Battle of The BestAustin Aries vs. Christopher Daniels Special Challenge Match #1Jay Briscoe vs. Kenny King Special Challenge Match #2Mark Briscoe vs. Rhett Titus Tag Team Grudge MatchErick Stevens & The Necro Butcher vs. Grizzly Redwood & Ballz Mahoney This card looks...not as good as Death Before Dishonor VIII. The main event is Roddy's chance to take the belt (finally!), and Funk as enforcer might be good for a laugh or two. Chain match seems like it'll be brutal, which is good, but I was kind of hoping for a cage match, or even God willing, barbed wire. Even Dog Collar, which is kind of the same thing. TV Title match has potential, Daivari's good, and Eddie is too. I think Eazy E retains the belt here. Aries/Daniels was great in 2005 in TNA when it was like "OMG DREAM MATCH", not so much now. Aries is older, and not what he used to be. Daniels is, again, older, but he's still able to put out great matches. Not holding my breath here. ANE/Briscoes in singles is a mixed bag to me. Jay/Kenny can probably pull something great out, but I have no faith at all in Rhett/Mark. Not for nothing, but this should have been a tag match, then again, that would make this show extremely tag-heavy. Opener (or at least what I perceive will be) will likely end up with Balls Mahoney (he's not in TNA, right? I can't keep up) as Grizzly's partner. If it's not him, then I don't have a damn clue as to who it could be. To me, the main event is the Kings of Wrestling vs. World's Greatest Tag Team. This match had never even crossed my mind until they announced it. When it was announced, it immediately clicked in my mind that nothing else on the show, to me anyways, was going to feel as important as two guys' debuting in ROH that I'd wanted to see there for a very long time, against two guys who I happen to like a lot and oh wait, they're both tag teams?! Awesome.

See, this is what a PPV should be like... I've only watched a couple RoH shows recently, but almost every match on the card was built up during them... take some notes, WWE and TNA

I just read this...HUSTLE EXCLUSIVE! David Lagana: "Is This The End For Ring of Honor?" David Lagana.
This Saturday Night September 11th in New York City, Ring of Honor returns to the Grand Ballroom at the Manhattan Center for Glory by Honor IX, a show that is being made available live on iPPV via www.gofightlive.tv, and yet the hype has raised a lot of questions.
Ring of Honor was created in 2001 out of the ashes of the end of the Monday Night Wars, which saw two national wrestling promotions (WCW and ECW) close its doors within one month of each other. Give credit to GABE SAPOLSKY, who saw the need in the marketplace for a unique product like ROH and helped create it; without him the question of “Is This The End?” would have been asked in the early 2000’s regarding the death of alternative wrestling.
I’m no Ring of Honor historian. I came late to the game in early 2009 when Adam Pearce called me to help launch the Ring of Honor TV show on Mark Cuban’s HDNet. I know a lot of people asked the question, “Is This The End?” when Adam Pearce took over the booking of ROH from Gabe Sapolsky in 2008. Pearce faced the challenge of following a person whom the audience had very passionate feelings about. His success came in the quality product he created, and one he should be proud of.
I went through a situation like that in my time in WWE. In 2006, WWE re-launched ECW as a full time company after the success of ECW’s One Night Stand in 2005. There was so much hope and excitement around the return of the innovative hardcore product created by Paul Heyman. It wasn’t long that it became plainly obvious that the WWE version of ECW was not going to be the same product. So when Paul Heyman couldn’t stand it any more and parted ways with WWE in December of 2006, I was left with the nearly impossible challenge of being the first person who wasn’t Paul Heyman to be the lead on creative for ECW. I know many people then asked, “Is This The End?” While not the same product we all had loved in the 90s, 2007 ECW saw stars like CM Punk, John Morrison, Elijah Burke, The Miz and Kelly Kelly flourish and make their first impressions on a national stage. That’s something I know I’m very proud of.
Now it’s 2010, and I’ve heard that same nagging question about ROH, “Is This The End?” Glory By Honor IX marks a very unique set of circumstances. Most notably, ROH World Champion Tyler Black signed a contract with Vince McMahon’s World Wrestling Entertainment in August. The reigning champion of ROH scooped up just as he’s hitting his stride by the big, evil corporation. How could this happen? Does this mean the ship is sinking and everyone is running for lifeboats? It was this same time last year when WWE announced signing Bryan Danielson and Nigel McGuiness away from ROH and everyone predicted doom and gloom for the promotion. Ring of Honor’s legacy just might be just like that of ECW’s in the 90s … creating an alternative product from the big two and a place for talents to make their first -- and for some, most memorable -- splash with a national audience. ROH has “lost” talents like CM Punk, Samoa Joe, Homicide, Matt Sydal, Low Ki and others over the years. Those performers have gone on to show that their success in Ring of Honor set them up for great things in greener pastures. This Saturday, Tyler Black faces Roderick Strong in the main event for the ROH World Championship. Will Tyler walk out of the Manhattan Center as ROH champion? Don’t think it’s possible?
Point of reference, Vince McMahon met with Harley Race before the very first Starcadde in 1983 in an attempt to steal the NWA Champion and screw with Jim Crockett’s biggest show to date at that time.
Whenever a wrestler is “wished the best of luck in their future endeavors” from WWE, the talents ask themselves “Is This The End?”
Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin were both released by WWE in early 2010 and yet on this Saturday night, they walk into a new challenge. Charlie has said that they are “released and unleashed,” while Shelton has said “I've proven myself more times than I can count … This weekend will simply reiterate.”
On the other hand, The Kings of Wrestling (Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli) do believe they have something to prove this weekend. As the ROH World Tag Team Champions, the duo recently resigned with ROH and they want to show the world exactly how great they are. It’s a simple story … two teams with chips on their shoulders in a match to prove who is better.
So …
Is This The End?
Yes!
At least, for this chapter for Ring of Honor. Where ROH … and the wrestling business, for that matter, go from here is in the hands of those working in it. It’s an exciting and scary time. This Saturday’s Ring Of Honor show at the Manhattan Center is something I’m personally looking forward to working on (I’m directing the iPPV show), and anyone who is a wrestling fan should check it out at www.gofightlive.tv When people think it’s really the end, it’s usually the start of something special. I really would love to see ROH become more of a force on a real Cable Channel and not HDnet, they don't need to make major changes like TNA did when it moved to Spike TV over the years by getting old timers and push the young talent out of the way, ROH could give people something different each week and if it was on a different channel that I get I would watch every week and watching online is not really the same for me when watching wrestling...

Thoughts on the show.
1.) Jay Briscoe vs. Kenny King - Kenny King's manager chick is hot. Very much a pro-Briscoe crowd. Good match, not great. Rhett Titus interfered, or attempted to. Really bad spot where King went for a double knee in the corner, Briscoe caught him, and dumped him on his head. King won with the Royal Flush. **1/2
Mark Briscoe runs in to set up the other ANE/Briscoes match.
2.) Mark Briscoe vs. Rhett Titus - Slightly better than the opener. Match got better as it went along. Kenny tried to interfere, but was cut off by Jay. Mark got the win the the Cuthroat Suplex. **1/2.
3.) Embassy of Stevens and Necro vs. Balls Mahoney and Grizzly Redwood - A good match, better than the first two. A couple of fun spots like Grizzly being gorilla pressed straight to the floor by Stevens. Mahoney did the spot where he hit Stevens with fans' beer, several of them in fact. Necro broke out two Taue-like chokeslams. Stevens hit Balls with Ghanarhea to win. **3/4
4.) CHAIN MATCH: Kevin Steen and Steve Corino vs. Colt Cabana and El Generico - Really wild match. Everybody bled, except Generico. Colby Corino ran in and freed Steen/Corino, and they tied Cabana to the ropes like Raven in ECW. A pretty cool spot where they set up Generico doing a Van Terminator, but Steen pulled the chain and Generico did a hilo. Steen did the same moments later, putting Generico through a table. Generico hit Corino with a half nelson suplex onto a chair, destroying it. Cabana submitted Corino with the Billy Goat's Curse. Awesome match. ****1/4
Cornette announces that Davey Richards IS NOT RETIRING, and is challenging for the ROH World Championship at Final Battle 2010. HUGE pop.
5.) ROH Television Championship: Eddie Edwards (ch) vs. Daivari (w/Prince Nana and Ernesto Osiris) - Really short match, but for what time they had, it was good. The story is that Eddie's a pushover champ, hiding behind the ten minute hunt. He proves that's false by beating Daivari with the half crab. **1/2
6.) Austin Aries vs. Christopher Daniels - Took them a while to get going, but this was good. Crowd alternated between caring and not. Big "Fuck TNA" chant. Really good finish with Daniels hitting the avalanche angel's wings. One of the stronger matches on the card. ***
7.) Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli vs. Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin - Without a doubt, the match of the night and one of the best matches this year. A metric ton of teamwork here, and a really hot crowd. It's clear the fans viewed this as the main event. Hero got the loaded elbow pad, hit an elbow drop on Haas, and Claudio covered him for the win. I can't even put this into words. If you like tag wrestling, watch this match. ****1/2
8.) ROH World Championship: Tyler Black (ch) vs. Roderick Strong - Crowd HATES Tyler, and let him know it. Black stole Roddy's gutbuster. Black also did the you can't see me taunt, and the STF. Crowd shit all over him for that. Funk took over when Sinclair got taken out. Ripped the shirt off and threw it into the crowd. FUNKAMANIA RUNNIN' WILD. Anyways, Roddy hit the reverse Death By Roderick, the regular Death By Roderick, and then a running yakuza kick and I'll be damned, the guy finally won the belt! ***3/4, but that wasn't the best part.
The lights go out, the crowd's confused, and then BOOM "The Truth" by Beanie Siegel hits, and Homicide makes his ROH return to hands down the absolute biggest pop of the night, even bigger than the pop when Cornette announced that Richards wasn't retiring.
All in all, I don't think this was better than Death Before Dishonor VIII, but it was one hell of a show that I wouldn't think twice about recommending.

Read the results this morning and it looked like a stacked card with some solid match-ups. I am glad to hear that the matches came off well and that Homicide returned.
