ACCORDING TO ATTORNEY CUSHING, MCMAHON MADE a remark at one point in their discussions that was at once insightful and chilling. "Look, I'm in the garbage business," the promoter said. "If you think I'm going to be hurt by the revelation that one of my wrestlers is really a violent individual, you're mistakenThis is what Vince McMahon had to say following the suspicious death of Jimmy Snuka's girlfriend in 1983. Now that he has a multi million dollar empire to protect and after Chris Benoit do you think he'd make a statement like this today. Do you think this is Vince McMahon showing his true colors ? is he any better or worse than other wrestling promoters ? Thoughts ? I do think, in a way, that McMahon showed his true colors here. For whatever reason, by many accounts, he seems to be ashamed to be involved with the business that he's in. He's tried changing the name of the business, unsuccessfully, obviously. He's done everything he can to keep himself in the business, while still secretly loathing it. Then again, was this on tape? It could have been taken out of context, but I doubt it was.
I'm not sure if this makes him better or worse than other promoters. Some promoters screw talent out of money, at least Vince pays his. Some promoters "book" guys and send them to arenas that don't exist, Vince doesn't as far as I know.
I doubt he'd make that same statement today. The business is different now. If I'm correct (probably am not), 1983 was still sort of in the dark. It would obviously go on to be enormous the following year/decade, but it wasn't tremendously big when you compare 1983 to 1984. Because the business wasn't so mainstream, Vince could get away with that comment.
Had he done that in 2007, the backlash would have been huge. Probably because of all the media spotlight the Benoit situation had, and the fact it wasn't just a woman that he'd killed, he also killed a kid. That comment, if made in 2007, may have done significant damage to the image of the company and everyone tied to it the likes of which they may have never recovered from.

I agree if this was done in 2007 Vince would have major backlash, I think now that there is more to the WWE then just wrestling he needs to be as PC as possible and having his wife running for the Senate he needs to really set a standard of not coming off bad...
If you look at the path the WWE has and is taking, it is more then wrestling and I think that gives a hint Vince does have some dislike toward the wrestling biz, but in the end people still watch and he is making money off of it and that is his standard of living...
