It has been learned that in more than one creative meeting over the past two weeks, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon has informed the writers that he wants Smackdown to be "treated as the number one brand," including opening up the possibility of more trades in order to strengthen the brand.
McMahon feels that a sub-par rating for Smackdown on SyFy would injure WWE's standing with NBC-U, who McMahon is looking to for help in launching the proposed WWE Network. While some on the writing staff are actually trying to come up with scenarios that would include trades or Smackdown getting more exposure (like winning the battle royal tonight on Raw), others on the writing staff have not jumped at this latest "fire alarm" (as a creative team member described it tonight), saying "this is just how Vince reacts to pressure. He says this about all major groups and factions."

Interesting but trying to make Smackdown seem like number one might not work and really everyone knows RAW is the number one brand in the WWE. I never really could sit through a full two hours of Smackdown, I just don't care for it and I don't see it drawing me in like RAW has done in the past. I like many guys on Smackdown but that's still not enough, it will be interesting though to see what the WWE Creative does...

Wouldn't it make more sense to just move Raw to Syfy and have Smackdown on USA if they want that?

This would make the most sense to me but if they were going to do this, it would've made more sense when Smackdown moved to SyFy. In my opinion it sounds like NBC-U is telling Vince help us raise the ratings on SyFy and we'll help you launch WWE-TV.

The debut Smackdown on SyFy out shined what they had on with their normal programming, so does that mean it went down or is not good enough. I know on another board I'm on many said they don't think wrestling on the SyFy channel and if the ratings for all these years for Smackdown can't go past it's normal high will it ever, I don't know if it will but they can try like hell...

Observer listed the rating as a 1.9... which is great for Syfy, but I don't know if it's great for Smackdown.

Observer listed the rating as a 1.9... which is great for Syfy, but I don't know if it's great for Smackdown. Smackdown when it was on MyNetworkTV averaged between 1.6, 1.7, 1.8 and 1.9 so they haven't gone up when it counts to the WWE and it has for SyFy for sure...
