I'm a HUGE fighting game fan, and just ran out to Walmart to get this. Lot of hype surrounding it, and the roster is excellent. ROSTER:MARVEL:Captain America Deadpool Dormammu Dr. Doom Hulk Iron Man Magneto MODOK Phoenix Sentinel She Hulk Spider-Man Shuma Gorath Storm Super-Skrull Taskmaster Thor Wolverine X-23 Capcom:Akuma Amaterasu Arthur C. Viper Chris Redfield Chun Li Dante Felicia Haggar Hsien Ko Jill Morrigan Ryu Spencer Trish Tron Bonne Viewtiful Joe Wesker Zero Teams I'll end up using a lot: Super Skrull/Wesker/Magneto Wolverine/X-23/Phoenix Haggar/Wesker/Super Skrull Akuma/Wesker/Magneto Captain America/Chris Redfield/Ryu Anyone else here play the other two games/plan on picking this one up?

I remember back i the day being super exciting about the original coming out.. many quarters went into that machine, almost as many as VF 2. I like the Marvel Super Heroes Infinity Gauntlet one alot as well
The 2nd one was a little disappointing in that there was little variety in the Marvel characters, in both the choice in characters and the move sets. Looking at that list of characters, it seems they'll have the same problem. I lot of those characters can be either 'paired' and have similar or identical moves.
I was a big fan of fighters in their heyday, maybe 10 years ago... played tons of VF 2 and 3, MK 2 and 3, SF, Soul Calibur, Tekken, Darkstalkers, etc... but I think their time is past.. there's only so much you can do with that game style, and they've kinda done it, IMO.

Super Skrull is my favorite character in the game. He plays so much differently from like, any other character ever it's so ridiculous. Wesker is damn good, too. Skrull/Wesker/Sentinel might be the best team in the game. So much damage potential. I remember back i the day being super exciting about the original coming out.. many quarters went into that machine, almost as many as VF 2. I like the Marvel Super Heroes Infinity Gauntlet one alot as well MSH was awesome, but I liked X-Men vs. Street Fighter more. Actually, didn't they have MSH vs. Street Fighter, too? I know they whored out the Marvel license while they had it. There was an X-Men game, too. X-Men: Children of the Atom was the name, I think. MVC2 is a good game, but I agree that there's little variation in characters and play styles. So far from MVC3, there are some guys who feel the same, but there are others (Haggar, Skrull, Wesker) who feel completely unique and are a blast. MK 2/3 was more like 15-16 years ago. I think Street Fighter IV revitalized the fighting game genre. It hadn't been relevant for a decade, and it brought people back using the familiar gameplay, but they made some notable tweaks. There's no real revolutionary features to put in a fighting game anymore, I agree, but then again, there's no problem with expanding on what's already there IMO.

I'm a HUGE fighting game fan... There's no real revolutionary features to put in a fighting game anymore... Switch the controls to Classic so you use buttons for strikes instead of the analog stick. Makes the game far easier. so lemme get this straight. you choose to turn off a modern (some would say "revolutionary") feature (analog control) to make a game far easier.....then brag about your undefeated record? lol "HUGE fighting game fan?" sound more like a HUGE pussy who doesnt know shit about fighting games

Yeah, there's one in every crowd. Anyway, yeah, there was an X-Men one, too... VERY similar to the others...just without Iron Man and Spidey. I suppose MK was 15 years ago.. I'm old, I guess... I played all those in the actual arcade in college. Good times I never played SF IV... Arcades were pretty dead by then, and those games are definitely limited playing against the computer. I definitely played the later Tekken and Soul Calibur games some (that's what my little brother was into).. they were ok, but never as good as VF, in my opinion, nor as fun (since I'm a comic fan, as the marvel games.

Virtual Fighter is a fun game series, but it's more for the people who study frame data and are into really technical fighting games. It's a step above Tekken on the "You really have to know your shit to be good at this" ladder, which isn't a bad thing, but it takes forever to learn a character in Tekken, I don't wanna think how long it would take to learn even just the basics of VF.
EDIT: Just played my first set of online matches in MVC3. 20 games with a friend, and won the series 11-9. It's ridiculous, he lives literally four or five blocks away and the lag was incredible. Like, four-five second spikes which resulted in a lot of dropped combos. The last few matches ran smoothly, but everything before that was terrible. I probably would have lost the series had we had no lag.
So far, my favorite character is Wolverine, with Super Skrull and Wesker being tied for second. I see this ending up like Marvel vs. Capcom 2 where the top tier consists of maybe 4-5 characters and then everybody else sucks. All I've seen in videos so far are Skrull/Wesker/Sentinel teams, and I'm afraid that's going to get labeled "Team Scrub" like Cable/Storm/Magneto did in MVC2.
I played X-Men: COTA yesterday for the first time in years. I get why nobody talks about that game honestly, the vs. games are far better.

After playing a ton of online matches against Phoenix, I can say this: Whoever decided that she should be in the game should be shot in the head. She's the perfect last resort character for anyone who just wants to mash buttons and do massive damage. Phoenix + Full Super Meter + Dark Phoenix Hyper Combo = Death 90% of the time.
Wesker/Sentinel/Anyone other character is going to be the new Team Scrub. That tandem is so good, they don't need a third partner. Throw Wolverine in there with them and the damage you can do is outright nasty.
