Black Adam... I don't get it... I really enjoyed JSA about oh, 5 years ago. Black Adam is an awesome character... sometimes. When he's given the depth.. that of a man who things he's a god, he's really entertaining. When he's just 'evil Captain Marvel' he's kinda boring. JSA was a really neat mix of the past and the present.. I really like Mr. Terrific (though they did put him in EVERYTHING for a while, just before 52) and Stars and STRIPE (not sure what they're calling Courtney these days) When they re-boot.. something was missing, though I admit I didn't give it a great chance. I'm up to the Dark Reign in my X-Men trade reading, so when I get it I'll post on it.... I like the concept of the bad guys winning (Waid's Empire could have been awesome if it had a publisher and a regular schedule), but I've heard nothing but bad things. My fave JLA was definitely the Blue and Gold era... hilarious stuff, with enough seriousness for it not to be a parody.

Black Adam... I don't get it... As said elsewhere in the thread, you have to read volume one of JSA by Johns and Goyer to really "get" Black Adam I think. Black Reign, for instance, is a great story. @mark T, I can dig that. Budget is a big deal nowadays with comics. Thats one of the reasons I have switched to DCBS (www.dcbservice.com) because they discount most books about 40% if not more. Its a pain to be back on mail order after using an LCS for 4 years but it certainly is a LOT cheaper!

I only suscribe to Batman the Brave and the Bold, pretty much I'll get newer books through a few shops I've dealt with on eBay or I buy older books there too...
A mini-series I liked was from the Helix line was Star Crossed. I really liked the book, it was a strange sci-fi love story during war time...
I have from Darkhorse the 1998 The Terminator special and mini-series with Male and Female Terminator's, which is a cool run...

It was that 52 mini that really made me dislike Black Adam.

Its a pain to be back on mail order after using an LCS for 4 years but it certainly is a LOT cheaper! That's the thing: I do get about a 20-30 percent discount depending on the book if I subscribe through my local shop, but GI Joe with a $3.99 cover price was still too much when I was getting 12-15 books a month and there were books with $2.99 cover price that I was enjoying just as much. wildfire: fantastic Four is now known as "FF" for Future Foundation. As you know Johnny Storm is dead, and Spider-Man has replaced him on the team. Apparently they'll be rolling out a whole new team agenda where they'll be more proactive and less about just fighting bad guys.

Side Note on Batman the Brave and the Bold, the 3rd Season on the Cartoon Network kicks off today at 6:30pm est. I thought for sure Season Two was the end, but it's cool to see CN deliver the 3rd season and Superman is in todays episode...

Ugh! Looked over that Future Foundation book online and it really looks bad with everyone in those "White" outfits, something about the FF hasn't been interesting for years and now it looks boring still...

I've read issues 13-28 of the current JSA series plus the annual. I'm enjoying it okayish. I think it lacks focus and there are way too many characters. Hated the stuff with the Marvel family, was meh towards Gog, loved the birthday issue and not sure of the new writer with issue 28. I'd give it a 6/10.

Ugh... that sounds like one of those 'bold new directions' that lasts a year until they realize people hate it... tossing Spidey in the mix reminds me of the end of New Warriors, when Ben Reilly was on the team and they call it a 'Spiderman family book' I hear you guys about budget, I don't buy single issues at all anymore, pretty much. I get stuff from the store at cost, so as long as our usual wholesaler has it (which they usually do) I get the trades at 41% off the price on the book. Otherwise, I but older stuff on e-bay, sometimes mile high comics (though I can't get them to send me their e-mail any more, so I miss the sales sometimes) or $1 bins at whatever comic store I come across.

I'm starting into the War of the Green Lanterns crossover. It's been pretty interesting so far but I'm a little event fatigued as far as the Green Lanterns go. It feels like Blackest Night ended and they immediately went into build up for this. I feel like I could've used another year to breathe.
I find the Green Lantern title to be interesting. It's a very rare case of a book being excellent in spite of the main character in the book. I find Hal Jordon to be as boring as ever but the book has been great since it started. Really all three of the Green Lantern titles are good right now. I'm going to be sad when someone comes in and screws up Green Lantern Corps and it gets cancelled.

I find Hal Jordon to be as boring as ever but the book has been great since it started. I've been reading Green Lantern for years and the funny thing about for the past couple of years is that the book hasn't really been about the main character. Writer Geoff Johns even addressed that in a recent issue with a one-off comment when someone asked Hal "how long has it been since you took off that ring?" Since the Sinestro Corps war storyline it's just been Hal racing from one situation to the next in Green Lantern mode with no characterization at all. It's cool scenario after cool scenario and lots of action, but very little in the way of character-driven story. This is kind of my "fast food book" every month: instant gratification with little substance. This is the modern take on the classic superhero books and it proves that kind of story can still work if done properly.
