That's all I can ask for but if the gameplay itself sucks then that's going to ruin the entire game. I'm still looking forward to having a new wrestling video game.

Yeah, I hope the gameplay is as good as they say.

First thing when I start in: 248 MB patch, presumably this just adds the first DLC pack to WWE Shop so you can DL it right away.

So much for tough AI...I beat Austin with Lesnar in like a minute and a half with no problems at all.

Alright, here's some thoughts on the game after about an hour and a half of play: - I like the limb targeting system a lot. - It is WAY too easy to hit that four strike combo to stun your opponent. - The AI isn't aggressive at all, after two matches I put it on Legend and still don't have much of a problem. - However, the AI likes to kick out of finishers, so bare that in mind. - Some wacky Universe stuff: I fought Christian for the Light Heavyweight Championship as Daniel Bryan. As Christian entered, he was attacked by Alberto Del Rio. Shortly after the match started, Ted DiBiase attacked Christian, allowing me to win. Then after I won the WWE Title with Brock Lesnar, Shawn Michaels and Diesel came out to celebrate with Brock. - During the crowd shots between matches in Universe, the game hiccups a lot to the point I was afraid my system was going to crash. May have had something to do with me being online since that happens a lot with games when I'm signed into PSN. - The 1999-2000 era WCW logo before shows in WCW arenas in Universe mode sucks. The Clash of the Champions/Nitro videos, however do not. - Brock Lesnar is a FUCKING MONSTER in this game. - The Rock's character model is awesome, I hate the guy but it's like Benoit in SmackDown: Here Comes the Pain in the sense that the guy's character model is awesome so I'll use him a ton. - Demolition look good and you can do the classic red/white/yellow Smash face paint. At least I think it's classic, so suck on that. - Have not played a tag match yet. - Universe, much like last year, has a fetish for big multiple person matches. I've simmed through a month of Universe and EVERY show has had a triple threat or fatal four way. Kind of annoying but you can change it so whatever. - Wade Barrett is a lot of fun to play as. - Universe is like last year where you get cutscenes before, during, and/or after EVERY match. - Did I mention the WCW intros in Universe rule? Because they do. - You CAN change Pay-Per-Views to whatever you want. - I made an Attitude era RAW is WAR arena in Create-An-Arena relatively easily. - Superstar Threads is much better this year than last. - I fucking love the Starrcade and Clash of the Champions arenas. - The Road Warriors' WrestleMania 13 attires look awesome and I definitely see myself using that attire over the original attire in the game. - The gameplay is solid enough, I think after a bit more time with it I'll know if I truly like or dislike the game but one thing I can say is I'm definitely having fun.

Here you go guys, my review of WWE 12.
Every year I psyche myself up to the point that I'm convinced that the new WWE game will be the era defining game. Go back and look at the SVR 2011 thread, hell if I had my SVR 08, 09 and 10 reviews, you'd see me pleading for this to happen. Is WWE 12 that game? Can WWE 12 finally give us a game that defines the modern era of WWE? Let's get to the review.
First off, the game looks tremendous. There are more hits than misses with the character models, with Daniel Bryan being probably the worst likeness in the game and The Rock having probably the best likeness. The arenas all look nice with the notable exception of WrestleMania which is set in the regular arena and not a stadium. Not a deal breaker, but it kind of sucks. The depth of field is used well and really makes everything that happens in the ring look better because you don't get distracted by how the crowd looks. But with this comes the downside. On the outside, the announcers are blurred with the fans which just looks off. Overall, I think this game is the best graphical representation of WWE to date.
Let's talk for a second about the animation. There are some great move animations in this game, including the return of a few of the older animations like Rock's clothesline from SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain. But then...there are the entrances. More than half of the entrances in this game look terrible. Daniel Bryan, Kane, Edge, The Miz, Arn Anderson, among many others have entrances that look like very poor imitations of the guy's respective ring walks. On the other hand, the entrances of John Cena, The Rock, Undertaker, Triple H, CM Punk and Sin Cara look fantastic. The move animations have more good than bad, which is all you can ask for except for them putting the over 1,000 moves that have been removed back into the games.
Speaking of moves, the movesets in this game are extremely bad. Stone Cold Steve Austin has a powerbomb, several people have The Rock's wrap around DDT, CM Punk has a weird hurricanrana he's never done, along with so many other problems including the fact that EVERY CHARACTER IN THE GAME HAS AT LEAST ONE VERTICAL SUPLEX. This move doesn't even get used much in modern WWE, much less by every character on the roster. Now, you can edit these movesets, but if I'm paying $60 plus tax for this game, is it so much to ask that guys have movesets that reflect how they actually wrestle? It's just plain lazy.
The gameplay is essentially a super polished version of last year. The limb targeting system is cool and adds a bit of depth and strategy to the game. It's fun to play as Daniel Bryan or Alberto Del Rio and attack the arm for the entire match so as to set up the Cattle Mutilation or Cross Armbreaker, respectively. This has its drawbacks because everyone has the same general attacks with the limb targeting system. Would it have been so hard to have given some guys like Evan Bourne and CM Punk their leg kicks for the attacks to the leg? I think this can be changed to that...but I shouldn't have to. The matches themselves flow very well on almost every difficulty from normal upwards. On Legend, the AI does more than just reverse, you get a fight. The downside to this is that the kickout meter comes up right before or after the 1 count depending on how damaged you are. The thing with this is that it's cool, but screws you out of a second you could have used to kick out, but this accurately simulates being too exhausted or beaten down to kick out right away.
The addition of interrupting moves is cool but it screws over being able to use double grapples like in previous games. The only double team moves in this games come from the corner. Fortunately, there are plenty of team moves that have been used by teams like the Midnight Express and the like so you can create pretty much whatever tag teams you want. This also makes playing multiple character matches a pain in the ass.
My favorite part of the gameplay is the newer momentum system. It fills up in one bar like the past four games, but when you get your signature move, you can use it and gain a Super (or Flaming) Finisher. This will do more damage than a normal finisher so if you can get it, get it. If the Signature times itself out, it will automatically store the finisher. Stored finishers do less damage but are a handy tool for catching an opponent off guard. You can store a max of three finishers, and the amount you can store is directly related to your character's charisma rating. Wake up taunts, which can be used with either a Super or Stored finisher, will basically prime your opponent to be hit with a finisher like in All Stars. This doesn't mean it can't be reversed, but it is more difficult.
WWE 12 features an insane set of features and modes. First off, every match type from last year is in, including a new 40 man Royal Rumble match. The real meat of this game are in three modes: WWE Universe, Road to WrestleMania and WWE Creations. WWE Universe is a jacked up version of last year's mode, allowing you complete freedom with this year's game. You can replace every TV show, every Pay-Per-View, create your own brands, assign whatever titles you want to the Monday and Friday shows, and so much more. There are new cutscenes so you don't see the "Opponent buys a front row ticket" scene all the time. Universe also flows from match to match now if you choose not to edit anything but with the PS3 version I've noticed the game chugs and even freezes for a second before continuing. This is something that desperately needs to be patched. All in all, Universe is incredible and will be where I spend most of my time with the game.
Road to WrestleMania takes a different approach this year, telling three different stories that are all largely uninteresting. Personally, I've played only a bit of the mode but watching the cutscenes and seeing how things played out for others, this is extremely skipable unless you want to see the awesome United Kingdom stable. The Triple H story, however, should be avoided at all costs.
WWE Creations is exactly what it sounds like. It's the Creation Suite for the game and it's loaded with options. Create-a-Superstar, Superstar Threads, Create-an-Entrance, Edit Movesets, Create-a-Finisher, Create-an-Entrance Video, Highlight Reel mode and the newest addition - Create-an-Arena. I'll go in depth with CAA since it's the new mode and the others are largely untouched. You're given the ability to customize everything about the arena except the arena's size and the stage. The ropes, mat, aprons, barricade, announce table, floor...it can all be customized with the slew of logos that are provided, logos you've created yourself or even logos you've downloaded off Community Creations. This mode is great but has a ton of room for improvements, and here's hoping those improvements get made next year.
Online is something I won't go into detail about since it hasn't been patched yet but right now it's terrible. You can't go online or on Community Creations without being booted off very quickly. They're supposed to be patching this, but remember when they were going to patch the pin glitch last year? Yeah. Exactly.
In closing, WWE 12 is probably the best main WWE game since SmackDown vs. RAW 2006. Is it better than All Stars? You get two completely different experiences. This is the NBA 2K to All Stars' NBA JAM. If you want a more realistic experience, go with this game. If you want an over the top arcade experience, go with All Stars. WWE 12 is a great game with solid gameplay, a metric ton of modes and a lot of options within those modes. Does this game define the modern WWE era, will people be playing it for years to come? Time will tell, but for right now, this is one hell of a good game.

Thank you for the review Switch. I ordered a copy for $47 on Amazon the other day, so when it gets here I will hopefully get to try it out. (Arkham City is still sitting wrapped new for over 2 weeks) Having not played it yet, I can't compare 12 and All Star, but your analogy seems spot on.

Just had an awesome end to WrestleMania in Universe. Austin vs. Lesnar for the Attitude Era WWE Title, Austin (me) beats Lesnar. I couldn't skip the victory cutscene which I thought meant a lame celebration Universe cutscene, but oh no...CM Punk cashes in Money in the Bank on Austin, and I beat Punk with Austin to thwart the cash-in attempt because I worked hard to keep that WWE Title on Austin, nobody's taking that shit.

Watch this video. Seriously, the amount of work this guy puts into his stuff is ridiculous. His WrestleMania opening > Most of recent real life WM opens.

Figured you would know this, if I want to make one of my shows Nitro (say Superstars) and use a custom roster, how do I change the defaulted roster to that show? I had to reboot My Universe b/c I skipped the first match on RAW and THUS never got Lesnar. Rebooted it and now I have him and I would like to make a NITRO show

You'd have to replace RAW or SD with Nitro to get Nitro with its own roster. To make your own custom roster, you can change one of the brands to whatever you want, and then you can just assign your altered brand to the show you want, again, except for Superstars.

So to have Nitro, I would have to lose SD...okay.
Also, is there anyway to wrestle for Championships in matches not designed that way by the computer? I would like to unlock those guys and teams that require you to do so. And since I am not really that great at the game, it takes me time to get through things.
