FX has added The Wrestler to their movie rotation, and I caught a good chunk of the second half last night while my wife was feeding the baby. Haven't seen the movie in a few years, but damn if it is still not as effective now as it was then.
You watch the film and just want Randy to make the right choice just once, and not fall back to his old habits. As a mark it's hard sometimes to remember that these are men and women out there, not just workers and spots and angles. I like to think that Aronfsky's work helps the world at large realize that but it is useful for us marks to remember that too.
At the end, when Ayatollah tells Randy "We gave em enough!" at the ROH show, that just gets me. Every time.

I saw abit of it on FX last night as well. I watched the whole thing a few weeks ago. And yes, the movie is as compelling now as when I first saw it. Randy is a sympathetic character. He has demons and relationship problems, but is trying to get things right. But those old demons are always around.
To me the sad part is after his heart attack and surgery that he still wanted to go back out. I don't think it was for the money, rather for that rush that comes from performing. It is that very rush that brings an end to him.
And you are also correct ljacone, the ending is gripping.

If it's on free TV, you have to watch it once (especially if you're a wrestling fan) The only bad thing is on tv, you dont get to see Marissa Tomei's awesome boobies!!!! ;D

You grow to really like the main character and they seem to be on the right track. Then, they slowly start to slide and you root for them to make the right choice even though you know they ultimately won't.
