Based on the common interests I imagine several people have read the books. Are you watching the series on HBO.
I was enjoying the fact that it follows the book so closely until the necessity of them to write in the assassination plans of Danaerys that never are uncovered until much later and the gay sex between Loras and Renly. Don't recall that either. Someone correct me if I'm mistaken.

Loras and Renly are not mentioned as gay... it's certainly not a stretch, but it's not in the book.
IIRC, there are a couple attempted on Dany's life in the first book, you'd have to be more specific for me to answer that one.
Sadly, I don't have HBO, but I did catch last week's show while I was out of town.. very well done.
I absolutely can't wait for the new book to come out... still scheduled for June.

I dropped HBO and some other channels to save some money as they have (again) jacked up the prices; so i have not watched any of the series/season yet. I will have to watch it on DVD when it comes out.

I'm enjoying it. Haven't watched the last one all the way through yet. It good. No Treme, but good.
I will say that of all the shows I've seen in HD, GOT looks the best. I don't know why they are doing different from other supposedly HD shows, but it's just a beautifully shot show.

Loras and Renly are not mentioned as gay... it's certainly not a stretch, but it's not in the book. Loras gives Renly a hummer last week. I guess they are adding this to explain why Renly never consummates his later wedding with Loras' sister. It's not that there aren't attempts. It's that they have made it a big part of the storyline between the King and Ned Stark when to my recollection, the attempts just happen and the plot is assumed. In addition, the audience already knows that Jorah is a traitor to Dany when I don't think we found that out until the last book.

That Jorah was working for the crown defintely wasn't in the first book... I think that in fact in the book it's Littlefinger that sets that up without telling Robert or Ned... or perhaps he doesn't do it until the Lannisters are in change.

I finished Dance of Dragons last night.... I have to say I'm a bit disappointed.
It's not that it was bad, but there was very little progress. After 5+ years, I wanted somethin' to happen, and while a few things did.. the progress was slow.
I'm now officially concerned that Martin is going to pull a Robert Jordan... there seems very little hope he can resolve the story in 2 more books, and he's pretty old... I'm thinking HBO is going to end up ending the series instead of him.
I won't post specific spoilers, but there are a couple more deaths.. though 1 is unconfirmed and another seems ripe for a resurrection.
Most of the action takes play in the free cities, through various PoVs... Dany, Tyrion, Quentyn Martell, Sir Barristan even has a couple chapters.
There alot with Jon on the the Wall, as well... those two take MOST of the book.
If you like the Starks, you could almost skip it all together... Bran and Arya have I think 2 chapters each, and Sansa is only mentioned in passing one.
There's also a new contender for the Iron Throne, which is very interesting, and probably the place where there's the most movement in the story.
