Nope, just that he'd be there. Played it off like he had no match.

That's stupid since they were pushing a few weeks ago that he issued an open challenge unless he's gonna show up, cut a promo, get interrupted (preferably by a NOAH guy) and then have a match.

I hate Tommaso Ciampa. He's got no reason to be in ROH, he blows and he looks like fucking Zangief.

Picture went out twice during the main event but it didn't seem like I missed much. Fairly good match.

And that someone...can only be one man... That was my thought too. I really think they should stop listening to Cornette. I think Cornette has really lost touch with wrestling.

Also, RoH really needs to understand that Dan Severn isn't as big a deal as they want him to be. He was good in an unpopular era of MMA and he had a failed run in the WWE. People aren't going to tune in because of him. Get Ken Shamrock if you want to maybe move the meters.
And the MMA shit needs to die. It sucked when New Japan was playing around with it in 2002-2004 and it sucks even worse with RoH doing it now.

That was rad.

Well, I don't know why you would keep giving the IWGP Title to a guy that constantly refused to do jobs.

All that aside (Severn does = buys, so end of debate!), this Saturday's show was pretty decent. Caprice Coleman and Cedric Alexander seem to be getting a more prominent role and I don't know why. Coleman has a nice story and good explosive movement and jumping ability, but he is not very good in the ring. Watch how much he hesitates and puts himself in the wrong position and has to readjust. He has no ring positioning skills at all. Alexander is just kind of "there". The Bravados outshined them in the match. Bravados gimmick is growing on me. I think they excel at it and it makes them stand out. The Bravado Brothers made that match. TJ Perkins looked solid as always in his match against Chris Silvio. The "Psychedelic Superstar" has a look that's a nice change of pace from the "typical" ROH "serious athlete apparel" (but could use to invest in some boots to go with the tights) and I'm glad the announcers didn't pass up the chance to get the Superstar Graham, Jesse Ventura, and Austin Idol comparisons in there. Perkins is the real deal in the ring, but he's not a talker as the pre-tape stuff before the match showed. Anyway, they had a decent match that highlighted Perkins' stuff, so it did what they wanted to accomplish. WGTT versus ANX was a fairly worthy main event, but the finish seemed a little sloppy to me. I was concerned WGTT wasn't getting enough airtime this episode, as they didn't do an interview or have comments before the match. Fortunately they made up for it at the end by letting Haas speak. I was afraid they were burying those guys, but it looks like they may be giving the youngsters a push after all.

I'm looking forward to TJP's match tonight and even WGTT/ANX even though the TV preview looked like it was sloppy as all hell (and your review seemed to indicate that it kind of was). Honestly, I don't like the direction the company is taking, but the matches are almost always entertaining (the only episode I wouldn't rewatch is the one with Lethal vs. Bennett) and that's really all I want. I can overlook the Cornette-ism of it all as long as the matches entertain me.

Yeah, I just watch for good matches. I don't like the "tale of the tape" stuff like it's boxing or MMA that they show before the matches with height, weight, age, etc. I think everyone who has commented agrees that the pseudo-MMA thing is not the way to go. They can't attract the MMA fans that way and they're not going to impress the majority of the wrestling fans with it, either. I support them because they have some talented guys on the roster and the more options the better, but they need to find their way pretty quickly or they stand to lose, or not even gain, the new audience they're trying to build. I've seen some flashes of things that encourage me though, and there's little they can do to turn me off of the show as long as it keeps this sweet 4AM Saturday timeslot.

The Tale of the Tape thing is kind of annoying especially when it took out the first five to ten seconds of Edwards/Elgin on Episode 4. I remember WWE used to do it on SmackDown when they had a big main event match, but it wasn't every match on every episode. I don't think it can be stated enough like you said, the pseudo-MMA bullshit has to go. If you want to present pro wrestling as legit competition, alright whatever. But don't try slapping us in the face with this "See that's the difference between MMA and pro wrestling, you can roll the guy up while in submission holds" because doing that is just as bad as Vince not wanting the word wrestling used on his programming. And that someone...can only be one man... That was my thought too. I really think they should stop listening to Cornette. I think Cornette has really lost touch with wrestling. Just noticed this, and I agree. Cornette was great with SMW (though I haven't seen a lot) and OVW (which I have seen a lot of), I don't get why he didn't try to model this ROH program after either of those shows.

Coleman is like Mike Mondo. He's a good worker but he's a bad fit for RoH. He's a Southern style working meaning he tends to be more grounded and such. I've seen him in CWF Mid-Atlantic and NWA Anarchy and he's a lot better there.
