So I'm a little concerned.. it seems of late people are reluctant to post things that they think will get trolled.... that's definitely NOT the purpose of the board.
I could, of course, not allow guest posts, but unless I start modding, that doesn't really do much. Doing so is defintely NOT what I want to do, but it's better than having people afraid to post their opinions.
What do you guys think?

Don't allow guest posts and set it up where you have to verify any new memberships. That's a pretty sound way to end the problem.

There's plenty of times where I'd talk more about stuff but get tired of those troll comments.

Just let it go as it is. It's up to us, as a community, to either ignore the idiot fucktards or stand together.
It has to be one of those "I may talk shit about Book (for example), but no one else is going to as long as I'm around."
Eventually, even the guests (and you know who you are) have to get tired of looking like uneducated morons, don't they?

Don't cower to the fucktards!!! Remember the only rule of this board - Just beeeeeeee cool. What you say, that's not a rule here. Damn. OK, how bout our mods won't be pussies. Shit, that's not this board either.
If I'm not posting, it's because I didn't find anything interesting to post about. Not because I'm worried about some gayboi with no sack to register for an account.

I do not like the thought of people not posting because of what the guests might say in response....

I do not like the thought of people not posting because of what the guests might say in response.... Neither do I, which is why I suggested turning it off and setting it up where the admin has to approve any new accounts. That would be a pretty quick way to end the whole damn thing.

Hey, what if you just edited all guest posts to include the url and location? At least then we'd know if it was the same idiots or someone new?

I think that your utopian ideals are admirable, but only work in theory in a world in which John Gabriel's Greater Internet F-Wad theory still applies. Switch's idea is the only way to fix the problem that doesn't require a ton of work on your part. The only people who really benefit from anonymous posting are the people who want to take advantage of the anonymity that it provides. And possibly Havoc.

It has to be one of those "I may talk shit about Book (for example), but no one else is going to as long as I'm around." That doesn't work, though, because this is the internet; there's no real consequence to the actions that an anonymous guest takes on the board, so why would they ever stop? There's no incentive for them to stop just because someone's TYPING IN ALL CAPS at them or mocking them, because there's anonymity. There's literally ZERO consequence for anything that they do, so threads are just going to keep degenerating into people defending Book or a bunch of rational conversation consistently upended by those who are just looking to upend conversation. Now, there's not much real consequence that remains when someone has to register, but at least they have to pick a persona and stand behind it instead of a constantly rotating series of guest usernames like "Guest1," "DanglyHooHah," "Whatever," or "YourMom." If you have to stand behind an account and there's a history to what you do, then there's a little bit of investment and accountability; suddenly you're punching someone in a well-lit room instead of in the dark when you choose to act like a fool. Eventually, even the guests (and you know who you are) have to get tired of looking like uneducated morons, don't they? No, they don't.

It's really sad that you guys are probably right.... I'll take it under advisement. Executioner also offered to mod, which I think might also work. Feel free to continue the discussion while I think about it
