I've never used bootlegs in an official LOW promotion. Granted, I use cards for jobbers but those are Mister X and various GWF jobbers.
But, I've been getting the itch to use certain guys like the Rock N Roll Express and the writing on the wall seems to indicate never getting those guys in the game. So I'm left with a problem. Do I just suck it up and move on without them or do I use the Olson boots that are essentially prototypes for the cards if they were to ever get released?
I would like the influx of more talent to choose from and I'd love to have some of the names. I've just never gone that route before and am wondering what you guys do.

We use LOTS of bootlegs for the LWA... I think, for the most part, they're pretty good. The Olson's ones are good, as are most of Knapiks, and the ones we have here (if I do say so myself).
Some of the ones that are region specific (like Trav's Memphis and Ace's GCW..even Jerod's Portland) are a little strong.. they're rated for how they did in the territory in question, rather than their historical influence. I like it that way myself, but some people don't. For example, the Memphis Lawler card is a top guy stat wise, while the Olson's version is more an Upper Mid-card.
Besides, you can always modify them if you think they're too strong/not strong enough to suit your vision... I don't do that for the LWA (we try to keep everyone using the same card of a guy if we can) but I certainly do for CoTG ones... heck, alot of times I just use the character idea and make my own stats.

It's a tough call. I've only used a small number of bootlegs over the years, mostly because I didn't want to use a card, then see an official one released later.
One of the nice things about "Olson bootlegs" is that while they may not be official, they're probably pretty close to what any official card will eventually look like.
