"a Match of the Year with Ryback and David Otunga"
Folks, anything can happen in the WWE (video games)!
Laugh as you might but it was a pretty cool match. One of those "you had to see it to believe it." Yes in the real world good luck but in the video game world it works.
So just finished Year 01 of my WWE2K14 Universe mode and a few notables going into Year 02:
-No matter how much I attempted to get Goldberg WWE gold the AI Bookers would not let it happen. Hopefully he will be champion in Year 02.
-Ultimate Warrior is gone from my WWE Universe. After getting slaughtered by Mark Henry at WM. Next in line for his Intercontinental Title was Antonio Cesaro so I set up a title match the following Smackdown. I will no doubt bring Warrior back when the time calls for it like if the nWo show up.
-As much as I manipulated the game to do this it chose to tease it but no Hogan heel turn yet. I was waiting for the Cena vs Hogan match to show for WM. Didn't happen so the Mega Powers will stay together and we shall see where it goes in Year 02.
-Undertaker no shows WM. I kid you not! Undertaker was not booked on the WM card. However he is taking Warriors spot to feud with Mark Henry. Go figure!
-John Cena is still WWE Champion and will have a 9 week long rivalry with HHH. He and Trips kicked off their feud with a fantastic battle at WM where either man could have won it. I am actually excited for a feud between these two! Scary I know!
-Andre is gone from my WWE Universe. Ted Dibiase is still there but I may just phase him out and use him as a manager upon the appearance of the nWo.
-Created and added the NXTV Title to my NXT program as I needed a minor title and a Television Title seemed to be the best choice. Bobby Roode had the title and quickly lost it on his first title defence to R-Truth after Wade Barrett for some reason rushed into the ring and attacked Roode and knocked him out thus seeing the belt go to R-Truth. AI Bookers strike again!
-Flair refuses to lose a match and as a result any guys I build up have their momentum killed. Case in point: Flair vs. Goldberg on Saturday Night's Main Event.
-David Otunga is STILL NXT Champion and has now held the title for a year! Not one other champion on my brands in Universe Mode can lay claim to that. Now Otunga will start a rivalry with Ryback.
Since the final Legends DLC came out the following have been my thoughts for my Universe Mode:
Virgil will get put with Ted Dibiase since Andre has left active competition.
Dusty Rhodes will join the Rhodes Family Stable.
Ravishing Rick Rude will join Bobby Heenan's Heenan Family Stable.
Jake the Snake I will have come in and set up a feud with Ricky Steamboat. Probably do an interference in one of his matches on Main Event.
As far as pushing a wrestler: I play him/her in every match and try and have him/her win every match that is not at a PPV. Then I decide how things are going and if I am not sure which way I want it to go I will simulate the PPV match and let the decision lay. However I have had in two instances where the AI made the opponent win while I was battling them and due to how the outcome happened it made for very special moments but still annoying when attempting to establish a top wrestler to challenge your current champion(s).
In the case of Bill Goldberg I had him winning every match which put him higher in the rankings. Until Ric Flair came along. No matter what I did when Goldberg had to face Ric Flair on Saturday Night's Main Event he would LOSE! In fact any wrestler that faces The Nature Boy on MAIN EVENT loses. I don't know what it is but he sneaks out a win in classic Nature Boy fashion and it killed Goldberg's rise to challenge for the WWE Title.
Another issue was on Smackdown. Ultimate Warrior was World Champion AND Intercontinental Champion. I played every match with Warrior and made sure he never lost a match. Depending on who he was fighting I would change the match difficulty accordingly: Quick, Normal or (for PPV or main events on TV before a PPV) Epic just to attempt to keep that title and his momentum as champion going.
However Mark Henry was tough in every match Warrior fought him in and I would let him lose a couple times leading up to a PPV as a way of establishing Mark Henry's dominance and could he actually take the belt. At Mania in Year 01 I built that up but wanted Warrior going strong in Year 02 but that didn't happen. Henry slaughtered Warrior and I was playing Warrior! It was like the booking team in the game was pushing for a Mark Henry win because they were tired of dealing with Warrior's demands or to book his own matches or wanting more money from Vince. I was in shock over the loss so I wrote the backstory that Warrior had contractual disputes with Vince and as such dropped the belt and left TV and then on Smackdown the following week a Intercontinental Title match between the top two contender happened and Antonio Cesaro would be crowned.
As much as I get tired of the usual suspects in the WWE title spots. I am actually okay with John Cena holding the title until someone else comes along. The Cena vs. HHH feud happening right now is pretty epic and I will leave it and see where it goes. However I am still pushing for a Hogan heel turn. Until then the Mega Powers are close to taking the tag titles from The Shield!
