1989 WWF is probably other than 2001 my favorite year for the WWF/WWE. I owned WrestleMania V and Survivor Series 1989 on VHS as a kid (the latter of which is my favorite Pay-Per-View of all time) and as I've gotten older, I've gone after footage from 1989 more than almost any year. I've been watching a lot of this era lately, and here's some stuff from 1989 that I think some of you might like.
Here's one of the more fun Royal Rumble matches ever and probably the most memorable starting 2 of all time except for 2008.
And here's the main event of WrestleMania V. Meltzer hit this with **3/4, but I think it's much higher than that. Hogan actually tries in this one and Savage is Savage, what's not to like? Two promos leading into it included.
This whole Saturday Night's Main Event rules. From the opening promos, to Hogan vs. Honky, to Savage carrying Beefcake to the best match of his career to the awesome Brain Busters/Demolition match.
Then we've got the Warrior vs. Rude from SummerSlam 1989. Easily far better than WrestleMania V and one of the better Intercontinental Championship matches ever. Could do without the Piper run in but hey, what can you do?
And then there's Survivor Series 1989. First up, we've got the semifinal match from this show. Rick Rude has Mr. Perfect and the Rougeaus, Piper has Snuka and the Bushwhackers. This results in a fantastic match.
This one was the real main event of the show, but had to go on halfway through because they needed to shoot the Zeus/Savage angle to set up the No Holds Barred cage match on December 27th. This has some of the worst refereeing ever and Gorilla Monsoon looks like a moron trying to rationalize the Powers of Pain's elimination when Hogan's team did the same stuff earlier in the match, but this is still a ton of fun.
From the same night as the Hogan and Beefcake vs. Zeus and Savage cage match, and aired on Coliseum Video, here's Mr. Perfect vs. Ronnie Garvin. Great match.
If you guys have any matches or promos to add, by all means do it. Figured this would be a fun thread.
