In his defense, his claim of a million dollar payday for Wrestlmania doesn't specify a million "American" dollars. He could have been payed in Zimbabwean dollars... You know, for tax reasons.

Oh lord, Pat Tanaka. This fucking guy.
True story - he used to own a martial arts studio in the town next to mine and he used to teach Tae Kwan Do at the YMCA between the two towns. My mom's friend knew him and introduced me to him and we talked in the hallway. I figured it would be my only chance to ever talk to someone from the Hogan era, so I asked him about guys like Andre, Demolition, Hogan, Warrior, etc. He said Hogan killed a push towards the WWF title for him, that Warrior refused to lose the Intercontinental Championship, that Demolition were mad that the Orient Express took Mr. Fuji from them (Fuji left them for the Powers of Pain, for the record). Also had the generic "Shawn Michaels is an asshole" story that everyone else spews. After that, he'd go into the weight room every Friday (the only time I was at the YMCA on the same day he was) and he'd just watch me lift, which was a bit odd.
Anyway, a week or two later I told him I wanted to train to be a pro wrestler and he told me to come to the martial arts studio and he'd train me. I was like 15, almost 16 at the time and Pat Tanaka was a former WWF guy so naturally, I was excited. I showed up a week later at noon, which was the time we agreed to...and he wasn't even there. I waited about three hours and he finally showed up and told me to get into the ring. A kickboxing ring, by the way. Not exactly the best thing ever to bump in. He gives me a back body drop and that's it. He said he'd finish up my training next week and then left. I didn't go back the next week.
He left the area a few years later (he promoted a show at the Eagles in Coldwater with the Faces of Fear and Buff Bagwell around my birthday in 2009 and that was the last I remember hearing about him around here) and the studio he had turned into a full fledged MMA gym. The guy he partnered with has no shortage of stories about Tanaka being a total douchebag. I've gone back there to train judo and wrestling with the guys there and it's a really nice facility but there's still a few guys there who were around to see me take the back body drop and won't let me forget it.
In closing, he's a monster douchebag and that article only furthers that belief.
