You never really know what's going on inside a person's head. Career success, money, fame: none of that means anything if the internal struggle won't let them enjoy it.
I think most people, even if they weren't a particular fan, can think of some movie or show he's been a part of that they enjoyed. He put together a real solid body of work, but again the ending kind of puts that sad asterisk on it all.

Comedians especially seem to be tortured souls. comedians prone to depression and suicide.psychotic traits in comedians I've worked the door at a couple comedy clubs (Connextions & Chaplin's) and I've seen a lot of dark shit there. Robin Williams might have been a tortured soul but he found away to love other people in a way that touched their lives forever. He did a lot for our troops, and there are a lot of stories of him from them out there to read. I always respected him for that.

he was an excellent comedian who loved to make people laugh and sadly couldn't find the laughter himself. RIP, Robin. We'll always have the memories.
