So I was looking at the Olde Wrestling set that was announced, and I was thinking, why is it all the good gimmicks are indy gimmicks?
Just recently, you have, of course "Best in the World"... now 'Last of a Dying Breed' and the Vaudevillains, which I had no idea was an indy thing until now.
So the question is, if WWE likes what the indies are doing so much, why not hire some of those guys, instead of stealing their ideas and using them with other people? It doesn't make alot of sense to me.

I was thinking, why is it all the good gimmicks are indy gimmicks? Because they're created by people who love pro wrestling and not stupid Hollywood writers. So the question is, if WWE likes what the indies are doing so much, why not hire some of those guys, instead of stealing their ideas and using them with other people? It doesn't make alot of sense to me. Because WWE has always had the mindset of "if someone else is doing something, we're WWE and we can do it better!" Plus, I mean Eddie Kingston isn't really someone WWE would hire and there are several reasons why.

Namely being that he's a drunken fuck up? That's a lot harsher and more condensed than I would have put it, but yeah that's a big reason.

Was that Hero that called him out on his shit in a recent shoot? Whoever it was really changed my opinion of Kingston.

I don't recall much of the SMV Hero shoot from before he went to developmental. Haven't seen the new RF shoot.

Namely being that he's a drunken fuck up? You know what's great for straightening out a drunken fuck up? A regular paycheck that will stop if you dont' straighten out. It doesn't work every time (see Hardy, Jeff) but I can't imagine WWE would make that a reason not to give a guy a shot given their track record. (Orton, RVD, Swagger, etc) The 'We're WWE and we're better' mindset makes lot of sense, though... seems to me they could cut out the middleman by hiring good indy guys (and probably cheaper, too) than what they've got now, though. Maybe that's too 'Rasslin' for Vince, and he likes to have sofisticated hollywood types around (sorta like FG, actually)

Kingston's got a lot more problems than just being a drunken dickhead to people though.

I don't think a stable paycheck would fix his issues considering that he's blown a lot of money for himself the last couple of years.

(Orton, RVD, Swagger, etc) I'm not trying to be nasty, but that's a pretty backwards notion. There is NO UPSIDE in a publicly traded, image conscious corporation taking on an unproven commodity with a history of substance abuse as an employee in hopes that hiring that person would "straighten them up". They're not in the charity business for one, and liability and the public relations nightmare waiting to happen would be something any business owner large or small would avoid if they aren't clinically insane.

I think there is.. it came give them an image of being such a paragon of virtue that they straighten people out that are bad... the Patriots (pre-Aaron Hernandez) had that rep, with Corey Dillon, Rodney Harrison, and Randy Moss (for a while ) all being model citizens with the team.
You know the WWE loves 'indy cred'... hiring someone like Kingston would give them some of that, and if he is a screw up, and they fixed him, they'd get to bank all sorts of good press.
I know very little about him, so I have no idea of that's possible or not, just saying that it's not completely ridiculous.

There is no accurate comparison there. Those football players were all proven commodities in a performance based sport. That's like saying they'd take a chance of Jeff Hardy or Kurt Angle; proven guys who had a hard time and bounced back. If you want to make an NFL comparison it would be like giving a talented walk-on from the practice squad a spot on the main roster despite prior felony convictions and no actual game experience. Kingston doesn't really HAVE a ton of "indie cred" no matter how good he is because he can't get along anywhere long enough to do anything that matters (and I actually like the guy as a wrestler, but I'm giving an honest assessment). There are literally hundreds of guys with his talent, better reps, and no baggage.

Yeah, you have to look at the last couple of years of Kingston's career. Look at that buzz he had going in 2011 and how that didn't turn into much of anything. Look at how limited his actual bookings are now. For an indy to not put up with your crap means you have issues.
