OK, I initially voted for the opening of this board to the public after the first of the year, but I am posting this to publically rescind that vote and explain why...
I have considered becoming a posting member of the other board, but the threads that I have recently seen there have showed me (again) why I had initially deleted and then stopped posting...
I feel that we have a REALLY good thing started here and opening it to that will simply ask for the Crap that is being spewed over there... If you are unsure what I'm referring to look at the "Tribute to the Troops" and "not the place I'd hoped it was" threads...
I Do NOT want to see that here, and as one of the Mods, do not want to have to baby sit, the wyat their mods SHOULD be, but aren't...
There are a TON of different opinions on this board, and anyone who doesn't believe that has never been in chat with Marc, ty, ho-, WT, WF, chewey, Rob, Crim, Trav, neil, Cap, Brian, CPB, Werner and myself (any combo is bound for disagreement, LOL)...
Point is, that even within that (and don't even ask about Cory's brother and me on Zip, er, I mean Tom Prichard ;D... tell him I said that, Cory), we are ALL able to post and interact and have fun. We don't agree on a ton of things, but we don't hate on each other and flame and troll to make ourselves feel better...
Anyway, that's my rant for the day and I would like feedback on that...
In closing, I EMPHATICALLY say that we should remain private and focus on having fun...

Here's my thoughts.
I am only familiar with the HIVe by what you guys have told me. And after listening to Wildfire, Holland, Weirdjerod et. al., I have come to know the HIVe as a cancerous body. Any number of people are tumors that kill it from the inside.
I am here and continue to be here at the LP and in the LWA because it is fun and enjoy discussing whatever topics come up with the members without fear of venom being spewn even though there are disagreements. It's ok to agree to disagree without heaping out insults and hate.
I think steps to ensure the fun state of the LP and LWA and prevent us becoming the HIVe should be taken. If that means not going public with our group and maintain our privite invitations, then so be it.

My experience on the other board would tell me to keep it private also.

Private is the way to go, so from here on out this is a word of mouth to friends and people we know that will add a vibe that adds to the board and not destroy it...

I disagree.. I think all those two threads showed was that Swarm is feeling better after his surgery or siesta or whatever....pretty much the same argument that happens every so often. Unfortunately for Rickert, he probably didn't realize what would happen.. most of the posters over there know to 'no sell' his trollbait posts. At least you'll be 'immortalized' in his fed next week probably, welcome to the club What's the worst thing that could happen? Someone like Swarm registers, disses someone on their fed forum, then you warn him/her for not being nice... it happens again, you ban him/her, that's it. It's just like the class clown when you were in elementary school.. if you don't give any attention, they either give up and be nice or move on to a better audience. It definately feels like 'hiding' not opening things up because of something like that... and I don't like that. You guys have stronger opinions on the subject than me, though, so do what you think is best... I'm not gnna quit or anything if you don't do it my way

Way to argue your point WF. Let me just clarify what I said earlier. I really don't care one way or the other. I just want to roll my cards and have fun. Whatever we do to make sure this is fun, I'm all for it.

Well, with all due respect to Graykipedia and Wildfire, You guys are retards!!!!!! J/k, honestly, I agree with several of the points made by both, and want to clarify something. I am in favor of allowing our board to remain open to the public to view, and my primary concern is to keep it drama free, and avoid the NINE PAGES of garbage from other places... We need to retain the "must be approved by a mod" status of the board... I don't want to "hide" from teh other board, and by allowing the public to view, read and enjoy what we do, we can still set the example of how a board can be run... I do not think that we neccessarily need to remain private indefinately, but I think that we should take a note from history and make sure we get ourselves established with a great base core of promoters/posters before we open ourselves up to teh storm, LOL. Let's get established, we are even now still growing and am not opposed to allowing more people in, I just think that as we've been through quite a tumult here in the past month, and it would be in the future of this boards best interest to go slowly... again, just my (always correct, sorry to the rest of you, LOL ) opinion on this... and I will echo WF in that I'm not going to just quit or leave if it doesn't go my way, just spouting my rhetoric, LOL

I think one of the most important things to take care of when and if this board goes public is to establish a code of conduct that has a link in the news fader that way nobody can plead ignorance. I really want this board to succeed and dont it want to have the same sort of problems that other board has. I think we should all take some time to think it over and then before the middle of the month vote on whether or not we want this board to be made public

I have no problem with continued to require approval for members... I personally think its more trouble than its worth, but if Crimson wants to do it, I don't see the harm.
I don't think we'd have nine pages of stuff here.. it doesn't get to that point unless the mods decide its OK. Clearly, you guys don't, so you'd lock/delete/whatever it before that.

We will stick with our original plan of going public in January, but I will ask members and Mods if that person who wants to join should be okey'd... we as a whole will keep things together here and I agree about the rules of the board, all for one and one for all!

I also think this forum should go public
Agreed with all points made so far
Mods approving new members is a good move as well
