2. Sweet Daddy Siki def. Adam Pearce with a vertical suplex.
3. The Mongols def. Lance Storm/Chris Candido w/ Sunny when Bepo catches Candido with a Croatian Suplex. Even Sunny’s distractions didn’t work as her team fell to the more powerful Mongols.
*Televised Portion*
-The show starts with both Shannon Rose and Gordon Solie in the ring as they announce that PWI will host the upcoming LWA No Escape PPV on Apr 25th at the Jacksonville Veteran’s Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fl.
They then bring out all 6 Elimination Gauntlet competitors who draw numbers out of a hat. An loud audible groan is heard from Barry Windham and Ron Bass as they reveal they have numbers 1 and 2. Rick Rude yells in excitement as he reveals number 6.
The order is announced as Barry Windham, Ron Bass, Buzz Sawyer, Masato Tanaka, Eddie Gilbert, and Rick Rude.
1. Arik Cannon/Sam Hayne def. Matt Bourne/Brett Sawyer
The newcomers looked very good in their debut against the veteran team of Bourne/Sawyer. Cannon/Hayne dominate early but make a mistake that let’s Bourne/Sawyer back into the match.
Bourne/Sawyer start to establish control and are soon setting up for the win. However, Eddie Gilbert sneaks out of the crowd and gives Brett Sawyer the Hotshot on the security railing.
Back inside the ring, Hayne lights Sawyer up with the Hell’s Flames for the win.
-Back from commercial, Barry Windham and Ron Bass storm the broadcast table, upset about picking numbers 1 and 2 for the Gauntlet. Windham says he knows this is a conspiracy to keep Bass and himself down but it won’t work
Windham and Bass agree to battle each other and then make sure that the one who moves on wins the Gauntlet. The two shake hands as we head back to the ring.
2. Sudanese Headhunters w/ Skandar Akbar def. The Eliminators
Size and Skandar Akbar helped the Sudanese Headhunters prevail in this one. Headhunter B lands an awesome Moonsault (+5) on Perry Saturn to pick up the win.
Afterwards, Skandar Akbar says we’ve all just seen the awesome power of the Headhunters and demands a title shot. Shannon Rose tells Akbar that the Headhunters have to beat a few more teams before earning the shot. This earns Rose an evil stare from Akbar causing Rose to scramble from the ring.
3. In a non-title match, Carnage Crew def. The Assassins
The new Impact tag champs were looking to prove their win over the Assassins last week wasn’t a fluke. The Crew look good early but a timely ‘loaded’ headbutt from Assassin #1 creates a nearfall for the Assassins.
The Assassins move in for the kill until The Blackharts hit the ring as the referee was checking on Loc outside the ring. The Blackharts hit Assassin #2 with their Armageddon finisher.
The Crew seize the opportunity and land the Carnage Driver on Assassin #2 for the win.
-We come back from commercials with Rose and Solie talking about a commotion backstage. Rose is handed a note and says that Rick Rude was attacked backstage and taken to a local hospital for treatment. Rose and Solie wonder aloud what’s going on and who will take Rude’s place in the Gauntlet.
4. Main Event: Rob Van Dam beats Barry Windham, Ron Bass, Buzz Sawyer, Masato Tanaka, Eddie Gilbert, and Iceberg to win the PWI Impact championship
Barry Windham dominates his stable mate, Ron Bass, as he uses his Flying Lariat and Sweetwater Suplex to wear Bass down. Windham nails another Flying Lariat to advance in the Gauntlet.
‘Mad Dog’ Buzz Sawyer eliminates Barry Windham with the Powerslam. Buzz is able to use his chain to wear Windham down. Buzz works on Windham’s neck that was injured at LLI’s Rey de Reyes by Rikidozan’s neckbreaker on the arena floor.
Buzz Sawyer drops Masato Tanaka with the Powerslam to advance in the Gauntlet. Tanaka just plain beat Sawyer up but could never get him in a position to get a pinfall attempt. Sawyer catches Tanaka coming off the ropes with his Powerslam to end Tanaka’s night.
‘Hot Stuff’ Eddie Gilbert ends Buzz Sawyer’s night with a figure-four leglock. Buzz fought hard to try and pull this one out but his fatigue caught up to him. Sawyer eats the Hotshot coming off the ropes to set-up Gilbert’s figure-four.
Everyone was wondering who would coming out to take Rick Rude’s place. Skandar Akbar comes out and tells the crowd that he orchestrated the attack on Rude and the Sudanese Headhunters executed the plan to perfection. As Akbar was talking, Iceberg pearl harbors Eddie Gilbert and the final Gauntlet match is on.
Iceberg is relentless in his attack after the referee gets squashed between Iceberg and Gilbert during a turnbuckle charge. With the ref down, Iceberg goes to town carving Gilbert up with a sharpened pencil. Gilbert is gushing blood by the time a new ref comes down to take control of the match.
Iceberg levels Gilbert with the Extinction Level Event but pulls Gilbert up at the count of two at Akbar‘s urging. Iceberg continues the assault eventually landing the Ground Zero Splash for the win and the belt or so we thought.
Rob Van Dam comes out with a contract in hand and says part of his agreement to be traded to PWI was an automatic title shot. Iceberg and Akbar argue with the ref as he’s looking over the contract. The ref says the stipulation is legit as Akbar and Iceberg continue to argue. The ref signals for the bell as he hustles Akbar from the ring.
RVD takes the opportunity to nail a huge Van Terminator to win the Gauntlet and the belt as the crowd goes wild. RVD plays to the crowd as the show goes off the air.
