(Clash of the Champions intro)
(Eddie Stewart and Harley Race sit at the ringside announce table.)
Stewart: Hello and welcome to the debut of Clash of the Champions. I’m your host Eddie Stewart and I am joined by a very special guest tonight. This man is a legend in this territory as well as the LWA. Mr. Harley Race, thank you for joining us for the debut broadcast of Clash of the Champion.
Race: Thanks, Eddie. As you know, I got my start in this area, owned the territory for a time and still live in the area. I was very happy to see the Central States area get back up and running so it is my pleasure to be here.
Stewart: Well, Mr. Race, you have chosen a great night to be here as we are in the middle of a tournament to find the second contender for the Heart of America Tag Team Titles. We have one more match in the first round but before we get to that, let’s take a look at what has already happened here tonight.
(Highlights from the previous first round matches.)
What stands out in your mind from what we’ve already seen Harley?
Race: Well, that first match was outstanding. The team of Gordman and Goliath is a very effective combination. It was interesting to see Kamala’s reaction to his handlers. He’s usually quite loyal and it’s interesting to note that the only HoA based team to advance has been the Southern Rockers.
Stewart: Yes, that is somewhat troubling for the Heart of America faithful but I think that may change with the next match.
(A stagehand hands a note to Eddie Stewart.)
Then again, maybe not. Folks our first televised match was scheduled to be the team of Pat O’Connor and Curtis Hughes facing the brother tandem of Mil Mascaras and Dos Caras from Mexico but it seems that the O’Connor/Hughes team has stepped aside to allow another team to enter the match.
(Bob Orton, Sr. & Cowboy Bob Orton, Jr. come out of the back and make their way to the ring.)
Folks, I don’t believe this but the Ortons are in the Heart of America.
Bob Orton, Sr. & Cowboy Bob Orton, Jr. vs. Mil Mascaras/Dos Caras-LLIMascaras pinned Orton, Sr. with a FLYING BODYPRESS. After the match, Mascaras and Caras are attacked from behind by Pat O’Connor and Mr. Hughes. The Ortons join the attack and deliver a vicious spike piledriver to Mascaras on the concrete floor. They follow that by spiking Caras on the concrete floor. Officials and medical personnel rush from the back before any more damage can be done.
(break)
Stewart: That was a heinous attack by those four men. Harley, I know you’ve been friends with the Ortons for years but what do you make of this?
Race: I’m not sure. Like you said I’ve known not only the Ortons for years but Pat O’Connor and Curtis Hughes as well. I can’t understand why they would do something like that. At least not all four of them in cooperation.
Stewart: Well, following our next match, I understand that those four men will be out here to explain themselves. Also, as a result of that attack, Mil Mascaras and Dos Caras will be unable to continue in this tournament so the Tolos Brothers will face the Southern Rockers and the tournament final will be a Triple Threat Elimination Match to determine who will meet the Strongbows on Wrestling at the Chase on the 30th of this month.
Black Gordman & Great Goliath vs. Dick the Bruiser & The CrusherGordman and Goliath came out quick and surprised Bruiser and Crusher. Goliath had Crusher reeling and quickly wore him down. Goliath then did the unthinkable. Goliath made Crusher submit to LA DE A CABALLO to give his team what has to be called the biggest win of their career.
Stewart: Unbelievable. I can’t believe what I just saw.
Race: I am surprised myself but Gordman and Goliath are a team on the rise. You have to expect these sorts of upsets.
Stewart: Yes, but still. Wow. Pat O’Connor, Curtis Hughes and the Ortons have entered the ring and are ready to explain themselves to all of us.
O’Connor: It pleases me greatly to see all you great fans here to see the great action that is put out by the Central States area. That is why this little group was formed. We are called the Central States Warriors. We cut our teeth or gained fame in this area and we have taken great exception to those individuals that think they can come in here and take that fame from us.
Orton, Jr.: See, when you are brought up in this business, like I was, you are taught to have respect for those that have come before you. I really don’t see that with these young wrestlers that are here today.
Orton, Sr.: Well said son. We have come together to defend our turf. You can’t expect to come into our house, our home, and expect to take that fame that is rightfully ours.
(A shot of Harley Race is shown with a disgusted look on his face as he removes his headset and enters the ring.)
O’Connor: Look here, it is the kingpin of this area. The main main, Harley Race. Harley, I’m so glad you’ve come up here to personally support our cause.
Race: Now hold on just a second Pat. I’m not sure I agree with what you guys are saying. You should be trying to help the younger guys to preserved the integrity, growth and longevity of this great sport of ours. You shouldn’t be trying to keep them from succeeding. They are the future.
O’Connor: I’m sorry, Harley, but you are so misguided. I don’t know who fed you that line of BS but they are dead wrong.
Race: No one fed me anything, Pat. I instill that in all the wrestlers I train. Isn’t that right, Curis?
(Hughes stands next to O’Connor, staring down Race, emotionless.)
O’Connor: I’m sorry you feel that way, Harley, because we feel if you’re not with us, you’re against us.
Race: Oh really? Well, I’d like to put my money where my mouth is. I have a couple of my trainees with me tonight. What’s say the three of us take on three of you.
O’Connor: That’s great Harley. We have one more surprise for you though. We know who the future of this business is and he’s with us.
(Suddenly, music blares and at the top of the entrance ramp is Randy Orton.)
(break)
Stewart: Welcome back. This was a very unexpected and exciting way to start off our show. The formation of the Central States Warriors and an unadvertised confrontation between them and a team comprised of Harley Race and two of his trainees. Harley has gone to the back to prepare for his match so now I’m joined by another Central States main stay, “Iron” Mike DiBiase. Welcome Mike.
DiBiase: You know, Stewart? I think Pat O’Connor makes a real good point. We’ve got these young punks today with no respect for this business and something needs to be done about it.
Stewart: Oh great, not you too?
DiBiase: Let’s just say that the Central States Warriors have given me a great deal to think about.
Kangaroos (Roy Heffernan & Al Costello w/Red Berry) vs. Texas Hangmen (Psycho & Killer)The Hangmen came out fast but the Roos quickly countered and Heffernan pinned Psycho after a Crocodile Smash.
(break)
Chris & John Tolos vs. Southern Rockers (Steve Doll & Rex King)These two teams went at each other from the opening bell. The action got so furious when both teams were outside the ring, the ref disqualified both teams.
Stewart: What an unfortunate result. I guess the finals are back to a regular one fall tag team match. When we come back, we will take a break from the tournament action. We’ll see you in a few.
(break)
Stewart: Welcome back. Our next match came as a result of a what happened last week on Wrestling at the Chase. Ox Baker delivered a HEART PUNCH to Iceberg that resulted in a hospital stay for that young man. I’m happy to report that all tests came back negative and Iceberg should be back on TV next week. In the meantime, his tag team partner Akeem will try to exact some revenge.
Akeem (w/Slick) vs. Ox BakerAkeem came out very aggressive but Baker eventually dropped and beat him with a HEART PUNCH.
(break)
Stewart: That HEART PUNCH is such a deadly move. Luckily Akeem was able to get up and return to the locker room with apparently little damage. Now we have the finals of our tournament.
Black Gordman and Great Goliath vs. Kangaroos (Roy Heffernan & Al Costello w/Red Berry)Gordman and Goliath looked really good but the Roos were no slouches. This was a great match and Gordman pinned Costello after a DIAMOND TWIST.
Stewart: Black Gordman and Great Goliath will face the Strongbows on the 30th on Wrestling at the Chase. When we come back, our main event of the evening.
(break)
Ortons (Bob, Sr., Cowboy Bob, Jr. & Randy) vs. Harley Race, “All That” Matt Murphy & Wade ChismThis was a brutal back and forth match. Everyone got their shots in and the crowd popped huge any time Race entered the match. The match eventually broke down. The ref was tending to Randy and Race brawling outside the ring while across the ring, Bob, Jr. was brawling with Murphy outside the ring and Bob, Sr. was brawling with Chism inside the ring. Bob, Sr. was trying to distract Murphy so Bob, Jr. could clobber him with a chair. Murphy ducked and Bob, Jr. inadvertently nailed his dad. Chism rolled Bob, Sr. up and the ref turned around just in time to make the count. After the match, Pat O’Connor and Curtis Hughes hit the ring but Race, Murphy and Chism bailed out before any damage could be done.
Stewart: What a great contest.
DiBiase: I totally disagree. It was one of the most tainted victories I’ve ever seen. This proves nothing.
Stewart: You are welcome to your opinion, Mr. DiBiase. That brings us to the end of our program. I hope you enjoyed it. We’ll see you next time.
