He deleted my post announcing it within an hour, and said he would only 'allow' it if I promised him no one would use desktop for it. It's a private board so they can make whatever rules they like, but it's a dumb rule because when you buy a set you're welcome to play it in any manner you see fit. Just like when I buy a DVD I can LEGALLY rip it and use it on whatever device I like as long as I'm not selling copies.

True, I'm not disputing his RIGHT to do it, just that it's pretty lame to try to control how people use your product. Like you said, it would be like Sony saying I can't watch a movie on my computer, only on a PS3.
I'm happy to mostly post things here, really.. the boards have changed a couple times, they'll change again at some point, I'm sure.

This whole discussion just saddens me...
You have a that has risen from the promoters...and has a rich history, as has been mentioned, on bootlegs... A promoter with the ability 'gifts' to the community a program to allow play in an electronic medium WITH THE APPROVAL OF THE COMPANY... The company (or someone associated with the company) rips off the idea to make a program to sell... and the originator and his product is suspect? Even if both products existed (and worked properly), I would prefer the desktop because it doesn't rely on the Internet...others will favor the Internet program...and still others will prefer to work with he cards.
Due to when I play and my lifestyle (traveling, etc.), without the desktop, I would have moved away from COTG. I could not take all the charts, cards, etc. when I travel (or risk losing them) and Internet access is not always available. WITHOUT DESKTOP, COTG WOULD NOT BE GETTING ANY OF MY PURCHASES.
For a product (and promoter - LWPD) that relies on promoter innovation (bootlegs, rules, matches, etc.), this is just madness that this innovation is somehow 'ripping off' COTG.
The argument makes no logical sense!
Even if there are 1000 promoters out there that purchase every new product...and they each spent $100 per year on the products...Total Revenues would only be $100,000. After expenses, I can't imagine that TG is pulling in HUGE bucks. If $50,000 is cleared after expenses (card stock, printing, etc.), while that is a nice amount for an individual...no one is really getting rich. and this would assume that no one else (co-writers, etc.) are sharing in these funds at all. I think these numbers are overly estimated. I would guess the real 'profit before writing' is down at the $30,00 level.

Here's another thought...if you really are concerned about Desktop taking away business...begin making download files to work WITH desktop. Provide the sets in both cardstock and Desktop forms.
I know that I would probably purchase both.
For those of you that haven't heard the story...when disposable razor blades came out, Gillette gave away razors...probably the more expensive of the products...so that they could sell the blades. It was recognized as one of the greatest marketing ploys to hook people to your product. Gillette made a fortune. FG could allow the desktop to be given away...but produce the product that will be used with the Desktop. Same concept.

You are wise as always, Graymar I think the problem is, and has always been, that Tom allows fans to help him to a large extent in running his business. While this essentially gets him free labor, he doesn't get the best advice, and that advice is colored with self-interest. This point was driven home (for me, anyway) when Tom essentially drove BDS away from the game because he EXPECTED free labor 'for the love of the game' instead of paying him a decent rate. The result: a barely functioning online product, and a questionable discussion board admin. For whatever reason, it makes LWPD very happy to be in charge of the board, and do it his way... he does this at the expense of the company, IMO, but since he's willing to do it, they leave him alone. If I was Tom, I would have 'fired' him long ago, unfortunately the good he does is facilitiating and organizing material (which he is very good at, btw) is far outweighed by the customers he drives off.. that least that's what the anecdotal evidence suggests.

Graymar and WF, I believe you have hit the nail on the head. And I like Graymar's reference to Gillette's marketing, whiile I doubt FG ever doing it, it would be interesting to see what would happen.

One never knows.. I never thought they'd send out free cards, either.

My problem has always been, there are a few guys that have taken it upon themselves to crusade for the game and protect Tom at all costs. They then go out there and alienate everyone and go about their crusade in a really counter-productive manner.
I think the real issue is that you have these elements running around doing this and Tom doesn't really know. I think Tom gives a glance at the boards, posts some things but otherwise let's those be. So I think a lot of the antics get missed and he's not aware of the more behind the scenes things going on there.
Though, I'm honestly at the point where I think the community itself is a lost cause.

So I see on the 8th LOW Online was down, that is one reason I dislike online and if I didn't use cardstock the Desktop would be used. Overall I play the game with cardstock and it's cool others enjoy online...

They are up on LOWOnline. They look pretty good, even though I would love to have seen some new guys, instead of alternate versions of guys we already have.

The Heenan is him as a wrestler. Stronger than his manger/wrestler card, but not much.
Snuka's heel card also looks pretty similar, but I guess it is more "savage".
Race is him with the blond hair and more of a tag team wrestler.

The Harley Race and Heenan cards are ok. I still don't see a point of the heel Snuka card. Finisher is a little weaker, some offensive moves are different, and defense looks the same.
