Ok, so I got the PSP sim of Battle Bowl to take on my next business trip, having never really played before.
It seems like a really accurate port of the miniatures game, but there's a slight problem... the strategy completely eludes me.
I played 4 games, and failed to score in any of them, I only really got close once (that was went I learned there was a halftime)
Anyone played that has some tips? Or is it more about the figs (which is totally understandable.. I've definitely drooled over them in the store more than once.)
edit: fixed the title

Well, I can tell you that, in the miniatures game, my strategy was always built around attempting to knock out as many of the opponents players as possible and then dash for a score at the end. I played Orcs (The Orc-lando Rage) and this worked for me about 50% of the time.

That's exactly the strategy I tried (with Orc, even) and somehow after flattening one whole side of the defense, the guys from the other side would beat me to the corner every time, while somehow having enough guys on my side of the field to have a relay chain to score immediately if they get the ball.
I was actually thinking I was hitting too many people, and not bringing enough guys foward... but I tried to mimick that (which is what the AI does) last game and lost even worse (5-0 instead of the 2 or 3 of the 1st couple games)
I gotta pay more attention to the odds of things happening, too, perhaps I'm not taking enough risks (or the wrong ones)

I have Blood Bowl for my PSP as well. I managed to score a few times, but my defense was too purous. I guess if I actually played the game it would be easier.

I have never played the electronic version but in the tabletop game the best advice I can give is to watch your spacing. Think about where you end moves so that the enemy ballcarrier has to make as manay dodge rolls as possible if he wants to get through. Think about who has Block or Dodge and try to adjust to make sure you have the most chances possible to cause that TO. Tackle Zones are the key element of the game really.
Also, and this depends on what team you play, but try to play to your players's strengths. I play Chaos Dwarfs, which means I have a few slow but very sturdy Chaos Dwarfs and a bunch of speedy but fragile Hobgoblins, plus on big ass Bull Centaur. My main technique is to have the CDs block and wipe out a path, send two Hobbos back to handle the ball, send the rest down the field as receivers, and have the BC roam and do as necessary -- sometimes he's a headhunter and sometimes he's the receiver depending on the situation.
Of course, some basic stuff -- remember your rerolls, remember to Go For It if it will really help your situation, foul if you can, etc.

Thanks, guys I definitely have to get the hang of the tackle zones, I was really struggling with that, were I was getting batted at when I didn't think I would, that sorta thing. 'Go for it' I used by accident a bunch at first, and it kept failing, so I have really used it since... yet the Computer seems to do it regularly... guess I have to check on the odds. I'll have to check that site MD posted too Do you have to pay to play on Steam? (I have it for Civ 5... I wonder if that would count)

Yeah, you have to pay for it. I got it during one of their big sales for like $9 or something. The Dark Elf edition is $20 and the Legendary Edition is marked down from $40 to $27. If you get the Dark Elf edition tell me, we can play on multi-player.

ROFL! A whole page and no one noticed.
That's quite a collective brain fart.

I spent the better part of the day fighting the urge to post one of the Battle Bowl matches in this topic. I liked this game a lot the one or two times I played it. I liked that it reminded me of the old Mutant League Football game on the Genesis.

Yeah, that was a good one... Base Wars was pretty great, too... Robots instead of fantasy things, but same idea

Blood bowl is all about clock management for most teams. Most teams want to have the ball for as long as possible. It is all about tackle zones, who has block or dodge and strength.

Yeah, that was a good one... Base Wars was pretty great, too... Robots instead of fantasy things, but same idea Never played Base Wars but I remember the box art from the old video rental place. Mutant League Baseball would have been so awesome. Still sad the basketball game was never released. Mutant League Football and Hockey were both awesome, though. Would really like to see those re-released on PSN/XBLA.
