Yeah, that don't seem to like to do creative stuff like that anymore.
While it's out of character for me to go with speed over power, I had some luck with the Skravens, but I also took some of the advice y'all gave and changed the difficulty... I think even on 'normal' the comp got a dice cheat... they got 28 successful dodge/go for it rolls in row (yes, I counted)... that's pretty insane for a 1/6 chance (or higher for a few of them)

No Skaven have a great rate of success to dodge. They have good agility plus most of them have dodge re-roll plus a possible team re-roll. Skaven are very good at dodging.

I have the first edition of Blood Bowl on the PC. It is fun to play, but kind of limited due to the # of races in the game. Maybe I will ask my brother in law to download it on Steam for me this weekend. I am just concerned my older laptop won't play the updated version. It plays the old one great though.
The key to Blood Bowl in a lot of ways is doing everything you need to do without rolling dice first. Then when you take risks such as dodging or stuff that can end your turn, you ask yourself "What will happen if I fail this?" Also protecting your key players is key too, not leaving them open for a blitz when it isn't necessary or an obvious gang foul opportunity. I've played BB for a long time. The nearest game store to me is about a 30 minute drive and not a lot of those guys play BB, so my figures have been in the case for quite awhile. The PC version is a nice substitute, although I wish the AI was a little more challenging. Does some weird stuff at times and takes a lot of unnecessary risks.

Legendary is supposed to have 11 new races. The download is twice as big though.

I played a bunch on my two trips... defintely got the hang of things.... now that I have a clue, the PSP AI is pretty dumb.. they only play one style (set the cage and try to pummel you to death), and often take silly dodge risks that don't work out. How many races are there? the PSP version has 10 or so, but I suspect there's alot more. Once I have some time I might well check on playing with other humans online... that'd be pretty cool

There are actually 21 in BB......with more being added for LRB 6. For some stupid reason they left the Chaos Dwarves out of the Legendary game.....and it really ticks me off too. I really like playing with the CD on tabletop, they are a lot of fun.

Ahh.. so some are like combos then? The PSP has Dwarves, Orcs, Wood Elves, Chaos, Lizardmen, Skraven, Humans, Goblins... maybe that's it... if there are others, they are un-memorable I've been using Humans.. I wanted to like the Lizardmen, but they just suck. Skraven are pretty fun, but get beat up too easy. I might try Dwarves next.. though their lack of mobility might be tough.

Yeah Dwarves can be challenging. You have to be pretty good with positioning guys and using Guard assists to their fullest since they don't have any starting guys with higher than ST3. The Deathroller is fun to use, but not sure if it is worth the team value or price. Basically you just use that on an offensive drive, taking your time to score, while pounding your opponent into the dirt. Also only have 4 guys with AG3 or more so it can be tricky to pick up the ball at times if something bad happens.

There's nothing I hate more than failing to pick up the ball... makes me crazy My current team I do a fair amount of passing. I have one guy with 10 movement and one with 9 (you occassionally get to choose a stat boost when the guys level up.. not sure how that works not in a video game) so they go long, then a try to bludgeon my way to the ball with the throwers hanging back to scoop it and huck it downfield... works pretty well

Basically works the same way on paper as it does on the PC game........
If you roll a 10 on a skill roll you can either: 1. Take a normal stat 2. Take +1 Movement 3. Take +1 Armor Value 4. If the roll is doubles (5,5) you can take one of the above or a doubles skill.
11 on a skill roll is +1 AG or a normal skill
12: +1 Strength or any doubles or normal skill.
I have never turned down a +1 ST on anyone....too valuable not to take.
And any characteristic can only be increased by a maximum of +2, so your Human Blitzer can only have a Max ST of 5 if that makes sense.
You basically on the board game have a roster sheet you keep track of with tally marks etc using a pencil so you can change stats, update rosters etc. Once the sheet gets looking too ragged, you start a new one.

I'm trying to learn the game while playing. But playing the one off matches seems like a losing proposition. I really want to like the Lizardmen but they don't seem to work out very well.

I'm trying to learn the game while playing. But playing the one off matches seems like a losing proposition. I really want to like the Lizardmen but they don't seem to work out very well. Lizardmen are good and bad. It is nice having all the ST, but their ball carriers (skinks) are quite squishy. Basically have to use the power of the Saurus to block the opponent and the skinks as the ball carriers. Saurus are kind of hard to level up because of their AG1 so I normally give them the ball on touchbacks or however they can get it. Try not to leave any skinks in tackle zones to end your turn, try to have them take as few blocks as possible. You have to protect the skinks as much as possible since they are basically the only positional on the team that can pick the ball up. Don't use the apothecary on skinks unless it is one that has doubles skills or a skill up (AG4 skinks are awesome). Basically a running team either by caging up or running a skink into scoring position and then protect him. And then when the moment is right have another skink run up and hand off the ball to him and then score. Saurus take many games to skill up unless you get lucky with the MVP awards falling on Saurus, so you want to keep any skilled Saurus around. Losing skinks isnt as bad because they can get SPP quickly by scoring TDs. Hope this helps you some.

My problem is honestly. My play style tends to be brute force over finesse in these games. I like the look of finesse teams and I like the idea of passing. But really it seems I should take Orc, Human or Lizardmen and just pound on people and do the cage. Instead, I've been trying to open up receivers and pass down the field. And it's not working out for me because that isn't my natural attack method in these sorts of games.
