So I've been dying to play some basketball board games... and my dad hooked me up with a great set... 1973-74 ABA! Dr. J's best year! AWESOME Kentucky team with Artis Gilmore, Dan Issel and Billy Paultz! The Iceman's first year with the Spurs.
I may even make a Wilt Chamberlain card for San Diego.. he coached, but was supposed to play.. the Lakers sued him for breach of contract and got an injunction against him.. might be really fun to toss him in as a 'what if' sorta scenario.... not sure if the 'purist' in me will allow it, though.
It's the newer, base-10 version, which has some nice improvements over the original Base-8, so I'm really psyched.

Went on Boardgamegeek looking at stuff for this game, and found this. It's a board game featuring the players from the 2009-2010 All Star game (though I guess you could just use whatever names you wanted if you so chose), and upon reading the rules, I'd REALLY like to get that game, but it's like $58. Not willing to drop the price of a new video game on a board game, no matter how awesome it looks.

Wow, that does indeed look very cool.. sorta like the old school electric football.
I'd definitely want to see if played before dropping that much money though.

Wow, that does indeed look very cool.. sorta like the old school electric football. Always wanted one of those. Found one on a garage sale when I was little but it didn't work. Yeah, same here. There's a demo video of it on BGG, which I just watched. It seems pretty simple, but I don't like just having the All Star teams from the 2009-2010 game. I mean if they'd release packs with teams and such I'd buy them all (or damn near it) but it seems like they're just releasing this version of the game and that's it. It seems like a really good representation of basketball, but I think it could be fleshed out a little more. If I have the money left over after Christmas, I'll probably get it.

I've played Strat-O-Matic basketball and find it to be really good. It takes forever to play but it's realistic.

it used to take me an hour to an hour and a half to play a game with the old system.... the Base -10 has better (but more complicated) rest rules, so I'm thinking it'll be more like 2 hours for a game... I don't find that too bad, though.

My friend Kristian and I shared an office and we would play SOM B-ball at lunch time or dinner before nice class during grad school. We were so busy with class that we never got to play too much, but it was really fun.

Yeah, you definitely can. It's not like Football where there are plays to call... it's just the substitions, and sometimes who shoots.

Football's tough, with the play calling. I've only played Statis Pro, not SOM, so I can't say how good it is.

Is it worth looking at or should I just stick to the basketball game? SOM Baseball is their best game, with Football (pro) coming in second. (Their old college f-ball game was a load of fun as well). It's a hard call on whether to spend the money or not. Football is more fun with a second person, but it is time consuming. It also depends on who you are playing with.
