That was just about perfect. They've created an amazing dragon for someone to come slay. NOW, as long as it's not John Cena then they are about to build some real damn momentum. If they have Cena mount the comeback tour and get his win back then they've blown it forever. Whatever happens it's got to conclude at Mania next year.
PS: Ambrose and Rollins may have put on the only good lumberjack match I can recall ever seeing. The other two former Shield members may get the recognition up front, but Ambrose is quietly building the momentum to be the breakout star. He's different, he's good, and he brings something new every time he's called on to step up.

I was bored out of my mind during that main event. I'm fine with the concept of the one sided match as part of building up Brock for when Reigns beats him at WrestleMania (cause we all know that's what's going to happen). But the squash was dull. It was one move, over and over and over. Seriously... They couldn't have thrown in an arm bar? A clothesline? Hell a belly-to-belly sulpex? Something other than the Germsn Suplex, please? So, I figure we see Brock Monday, and then a defense at either Survivor Series or Rumble (but not both) and then mania.

I think this match really showed what kind of guy John Cena is. I have a ton of respect for him now.

Having had a few hours to reflect on it, I think the main issue I have with the way they put the title on Brock (other than the fact that it was mind numbingly dull) is where it goes from here. With Cena being destroyed by Brock, it should be at least a year if not longer before they try and sell us on a rematch... But there is no one else. Even a blind man can see that the plan is Reigns, him kicking out of the RKO removed any doubt there. But if it is Reigns, that's not going to happen until Mania, and that's 8 months away. Bryan? Injured. Big Show or Mark Henry? Already sacrificed on the alter of the narrative of Brock's invulnerability. Big E or Cesaro (both of whom physically could have made for interesting options)? Now glorified job guys. Dean Ambrose? Honestly, he's probably the most over guy on the roster, but it looks like either more matches with Rollins or a program with Kane (sigh) look to be his future. Batista? Gone Hollywood. Y2J? .... God, I hope not. I don't want to see a 43 year old Jericho in the ring with Brock. Honestly, I can see only three options: Jack Swagger: Swagger is a bigger, stronger, younger version of the guy who was Brock's top rival ten years ago, Kurt Angle. Swagger's getting good reactions, and Zeb vs Heyman would be good. But, a) Swagger would need to come back and get the win in a third act with Rusev and b) this would require trusting Swagger in a key role, which I'm not sure anyone is willing to do. Sheamus: since they logically can't use Cena, they can use Irish Cena instead! Sheamus feels right for the roll of place holder challenger, but would anyone get excited for this? Randy Orton: Orton makes sense in that he's pretty much the only other main eventer and has the narrative of being the guy who's owed a title shot....But Brock/Orton would be a tough sell. So, realistically, there are two options: Cena again ( which as an option the squash nature of SummerSlam killed) or no defenses until Reigns. I suppose they could do something akin to the Lex Luger model... Have Reigns challenge Brock at Survivor Series, get screwed by the Authority or Heyman or what not, and then have to win the Rumble to get the rematch. But that seems unlikely.

... Mania, and that's 8 months away.
Good. An unbeatable monster champion being chased until the biggest show of the year is exactly the punch in the arm WWE needs right now. Brock Lesnar is the beacon of light in an otherwise grey and redundant WWE. Possible Mania opponents: The Rock, Cena (should be a cage match or something), Undertaker, Batista, CM Punk. I expect Reigns to be nowhere near the title come Mania. It just never works out that way. Guys like this stay hot all year until it's time to build the Mania card then the heavy hitters come in. Dolph Ziggler for example.

My concern stems not from Lesnar being unbeatable, it stems from him being unavailable. He won't be chased, he'll be missing. There hasn't been anything more repetitive since Mania than Paul Heyman's "My client" spiel, and now were in for 8 more months of it, only this time he'll have the belts on his shoulders.
I have no problem with the concept of televised championship matches being rare. In concept, it's fine. It's old school. But this year, not four months ago, we saw that this WWE creative team can't put together a main event scene with out the crutch of the title. They showed us that they can't do it. Stephanie came out and all but said that can't do it. And now they've painted themselves into a corner where for the next 8 months they are going to have to. They came up with the first chapter of the book, they know how it ends, but the next 36 weeks or so of episodic television is going to be filler. I'm not looking forward to it, but if you are good for you.
I think you're wrong about Reigns, and barring injury, wellness violation, or something unforeseen (like say him Shockmastering his entrance one of these days) they are going all in on him. But time will tell.

I don't expect him to be missing for 8 months. I think Batista will return to challenge him for the belt, as well as Bryan (if he can). I think a guy like Big Show or Mark Henry will jump him and set up a fake MITB cash in spot w Rollins, and I think they'll do the same thing with Cena FU'ing him through a table or something. Rollins comes out to finally cash in and Brock beats him anyways. They can and should do an 8 month build up to Cena's rematch. He should come out tonight and say he's cashing in his rematch at Mania by guaranteeing a Royal Rumble win. Spend the next 8 months building Cena back up as a serious wrestler and not a kid's icon. Go out in the woods and spend 2 hours filming Cena training outdoors like a man possessed. Show him in the gym doing his power-lifting in a black hoodie with his face covered. Have Heyman grow increasingly nervous while Brock remains fearless. Have Heyman start sending guys like Ryabxel and Cesaro after Cena, only for Cena to slow squash them like Lesnar did to him. It's time for him to evolve and now is the time. Hell, Cena is ALWAYS the main event no matter who the champ is, so what's the difference? Then finally have Cena come out at Mania in new all black gear and take the title back to get 16. It can be done. Can WWE do it? Hopefully. I'm looking forward to it.

SummerSlam overall was fantastic! Brock vs. Cena was perfect! Now the focus needs to be on who will slay the Beast. I want to see the belt stay on Lesnar until WrestleMania when a new blood is the one to take it from him which creates that perfect WrestleMania moment a propels the next big star as Champion. I hope Brock isn't on TV all the time. He should be treated as an attraction like Andre was before Television took that allure/magic away from him.
