I'm waiting until after the rematch with Flair on the 13th to make a decision on whether to vacate the Missouri title or not. Bruno defended the title against Bill Watts because Watts his one of his big enemies and I envisioned Bruno doesn't want Watts to have the belt.

SLWC presents ‘Wrestling At The Chase’ Chase-Plaza Hotel; St Louis, Mo; 5 Feb 2009 -Larry Matysik runs down the card to open the show and mentions the trade that brings Jim Londos and Ilo DiPaolo to St Louis. Matysik brings out Londos and DiPaolo but gets rudely interrupted by Tom Jenkins and Tiger Jeet Singh. Jenkins says they got rid of one hack in Cactus Jack only to get two hacks to replace him. Jenkins says that if they weren’t busy tonight they’d give Londos and DiPaolo a real St Louis welcome. Jim Londos tells Jenkins not to worry that they'll see them in the ring next week. 1. LWA World champ, Bruno Sammartino def. Toru Tanaka in a non-title matchBruno comes into this match still fired up after last week’s debacle with Rikidozan. Tanaka didn’t stand a chance as Bruno hits two quick Backbreakers to get a quick win. Afterwards, Bruno call out Rikidozan who doesn’t make an appearance. 2. Gorgeous George dq Eric the RedGeorge was his usual flamboyant self coming to the ring but once he got between the ropes, he feared for his life. George begged Cherie Dupree not to leave him alone in the ring with Eric the Red. Eric chased George around the ring; turnbuckle to turnbuckle until finally tiring of the game and blasted George with his bone for the dq. 3. Sandy Barr def. Paul Orndorff Paul Orndorff has not had an easy time since being traded to St Louis from SMW. Orndorff had control of things but could not put Sandy away. To his credit, Barr fought back and caught Orndorff coming off the ropes with a high knee lift to pick up the win. Afterwards, Barr tried to shake Orndorff’s hand but Orndorff pushed him to the mat and stalked off. 4. Jerry Blackwell def. Argentina Apollo‘Crusher’ Jerry Blackwell makes a successful debut after he crushes Apollo with the Big Splash. Blackwell threw Apollo into the turnbuckles so hard the ring moved to set-up the finish. Afterwards, Blackwell sends a message to Don Leo Jonathan, saying when DLJ is finished playing around with Kamala and Paul Jones, a real giant awaits. 5. Jesse Ventura def. Dominic DenucciVentura’s debut almost came to a losing end after two moves as he misses a turnbuckle charge and is barely able to kick out of a Denucci Airplane Spin. Jesse fights back, leveling the play field when he punches Denucci with a foreign object. The Body Breaker soon follows and Jesse goes home a winner. 6. Rick Martel def. Pat PattersonMatch 2 of this rivalry heated up as they exchanged words and shoves before the match. Back and forth action produced some thrilling moments for the fans as Martel narrowly escapes a Patterson Bombs Away Kneedrop. Martel rallies back and ends the match with the Sleeper for the win. 7. Tom Jenkins/Tiger Jeet Singh def. Terry Taylor/Len RossiJenkins/Singh, angered from their earlier confrontation with Jim Londos and Ilo DiPaolo, isolate Len Rossi with double team tactics and a bit of chicanery to get the win. Singh uses his illegal Stranglehold to weaken Rossi before hitting the Arabian Backbreaker to seal the win. This win earns Jenkins/Singh a shot at the Archway tag champs in March. 8. Rikidozan def. Larry ZbyszkoRikidozan comes with a new interpreter and waving a piece of legal paper. The interpreter announces that the paper is a contract that Larry Zbyszko foolishly signed to face Dozan twice more this month. The interpreter says that Zbyszko’s health and well-being is on Bruno Sammartino’s head. The match was a war as Zbyszko was trying to prove that he could beat Dozan. Zbyszko was intense as he bloodied Dozan by ramming him into an exposed turnbuckle. Dozan would use his interpreter to turn the tide and blasted Zbyszko with his vicious Thunderous Chops to get the win.

SLWC presents ‘Wrestling At The Chase’ Chase-Plaza Hotel; St Louis, Mo; 12 Feb 2009 1. Paul Orndorff def. Sandy BarrPaul Orndorff was looking to redeem himself after what he considers a fluke win by Sandy Barr last week. Orndorff catches Barr climbing the ropes and tosses him to the mat. This leads to two straight Piledrivers to earn Orndorff the win. Afterwards, Orndorff says he wants Sandy Barr in the ring one more time so he can prove he’s the better man. 2. Jesse Ventura def. Jesse BarrVentura shows he can withstand a beating and still comeback to get a win. Barr should have won this match but misses a deathjump. That’s all Ventura needs as he locks on the Body Breaker for the win. 3. Gorgeous George def. Eric the RedGeorge wasn’t about to get in the ring with Eric the Red until Eric pulled George in by the hair. Eric controlled the early portion but a timely distraction by Cherie Dupree turned the tide. George whacked Eric with his own bone and got the win with a small package while holding Eric’s tights. 4. ‘Handsome’ Tom Jenkins/Tiger Jeet Singh def. Jim Londos/Ilo DiPaolo Jenkins/Singh score the first win in this budding feud. Singh uses his Stranglehold to choke DiPaolo out while Jenkins had the referee distracted. Afterwards, Londos charged Jenkins only to have Jenkins bail out of the ring. 5. Don Leo Jonathan dq Kamala w/ #1 Paul JonesDLJ ‘giant-handled’ Kamala and looked to be on the verge of an easy win until ‘Crusher’ Jerry Blackwell crashes the party. Blackwell hits the downed DLJ with two Big Splashes before wrestlers from the back can break up the mugging. DLJ had to be helped to the back as he was clutching his ribs. 6. Larry Zbyszko dq RikidozanThe referee had a tough time maintaining order as Rikidozan’s new interpreter kept jumping on the ring apron and jawing with Zbyszko. Finally, the ref sent the interpreter to the back but Dozan uses the distraction to blast Zbyszko with a chair shot that echoed through the ballroom. The shot bloodied Zbyszko badly as the ref turned around to see Dozan covered in Zbyszko’s blood laughing manically at what he had done. EMTs had to come out and work on Zbyszko before a concerned Bruno Sammartino was allowed to carry his charge to the locker room. 7. Midnight Express def. Terry Taylor/Len Rossi to retain the Archway tag titlesTaylor/Rossi sustain an incredible amount of punishment as the Express bloodied both of them. Jim Cornette kept sticking his nose in the match until the referee had enough and sent Cornette to the locker room. Taylor/Rossi mounted a comeback but couldn’t quite pull out the win. In the end, the Express hit the Rocket Launcher on Taylor to eek out a win. Taylor finished with 8 tokens while Rossi had 6. The Express face Tom Jenkins and Tiger Jeet Singh for their next scheduled title defense in March. 8. LWA World champion, Bruno Sammartino def. Freddie Blassie in a non-title matchIt was clear Bruno was distracted as Blassie came close to pinning Bruno on several occasions. The crowd rallied behind Bruno as he made a comeback to finish Blassie off with the Bearhug followed by the Backbreaker.

Afterwards, an obviously disgusted Orndorff tossed everything not nailed down on its side. 2. Dr Jerry Graham dq Len RossiGraham used every dirty trick in his arsenal to try and defeat Rossi. However, Rossi got fed with Graham’s antics and blasted him with a steel chair. The ref had no choice but to disqualify Rossi. 3. Tiger Jeet Singh def. SLWC presents ‘Wrestling At The Chase’ Chase-Plaza Hotel; St Louis, Mo; 26 Feb 2009 -Sam Munchnick welcomes everyone to this historic night. LWA World’s champion, Bruno Sammartino is on-hand to present the Missouri State title to the winner of tonight’s tournament. Bruno comes out to a huge pop from the crowd. Bruno mentions his son, David, saying that his son is a grown man and should be able to handle his own battles. However, it seems Bison Smith has thrown down the gauntlet. Bruno tells Smith to come to St Louis next week and if Smith beats him, Bruno will pay David’s monetary debt. Bruno closes with a warning; saying he’s beaten bigger, badder, and meaner men than Bison Smith. If Smith has the guts to show up next week, he’ll prove he’s better than Bison Smith. 1. Jesse Ventura def. Sting The tournament opener was an absolute classic. Sting was in trouble early but fights his way back. Ventura escapes the Scorpion Deathlock and rolls to the floor. Sting mounts the buckles and flies with a cross body block but Ventura moves out of the way just in time. Sting crashes into the security railing at ringside. Ventura seizes the opportunity and locks on the Body Breaker for the win. Final token tally is Ventura 4 and Sting 7. 2. Terry Taylor def. ‘Handsome’ Tom JenkinsJenkins started the match on fire and had Taylor in a bad way. Jenkins goes for a back body drop but Taylor counters with a piledriver. Taylor hits the Five Arm on an already groggy Jenkins to advance in the tournament. 3. Don Leo Jonathan def. ‘Crusher’ Jerry BlackwellBlackwell has spent the last two weeks calling out Don Leo Jonathan and has even attacked him post match. Blackwell has control for most of the bout but makes a mistake and misses the Big Splash. This gives DLJ the opportunity to toss Blackwell around with the Mormon Swing to advance. 4. Rikidozan def. Jim LondosLondos opens the match by missing a turnbuckle charge. Rikidozan is quick to take advantage and levels Londos with his Thunderous Chops. Londos is able to escape a pin attempt and roll to the floor. As Dozan is arguing with the referee, his interpreter smashes a chair across Londos back. Back in the ring, Dozan locks on a Boston crab to get the win. 5. Akira Maeda def. Tiger Jeet Singh in a non-tournament matchAkira Maeda came out on a mission and quickly had Singh in trouble. Singh really showed the effects of the Razor Wire match he had at the Rose City Rumble. Several of his bandages were blood soaked by the end of the match. Singh tried to use his sword to turn the tide but Maeda shrugged off the attempt and hit Singh with a quick Dragon Suplex to pick up the win. 6. Jesse Ventura def. Terry TaylorThe crowd was solidly behind Taylor but Ventura kept the ref out of position as he used low-blows and hair pulls to keep the momentum his way. Taylor comes back but soon finds himself locked in the Body Breaker. Ventura uses the ropes for extra leverage and forces Taylor to submit. Ventura advances to the tournament finals. 7. Don Leo Jonathan def. RikidozanRikidozan seemed lost after the referee sent his interpreter back to the locker room. DLJ capitalized on Dozan’s lack of focus and dominated a short match as a bandaged Larry Zbyszko comes out to further distract Dozan. DLJ uses a giant swing to set up the Mormon Swing to advance to the tourney finals. 8. Pat Patterson cor Rick Martel in a non-tournament matchThese two bitter foes clash once again in another great battle. Martel was never able to get Patterson in a position to apply the Sleeper. The match goes to the floor where Patterson crushes Martel with a piledriver to get a countout win. 9. Akira Hokuto def. Aja Kong to retain the International Women’s title The crowd was in awe of these two but it was the champ who performed to the best of her abilities. Hokuto ran circles around her much bigger opponent and showing off a little bit of her power with several Northern Lights Bombs. The finale came as Hokuto tossed Kong to the floor and nailed a somersault suicida on the downed Aja Kong. Hokuto rolls Kong back in the ring for the pin to retain the belt. 10. Jesse Ventura def. Don Leo Jonathan to win the Missouri State heavyweight titleDon Leo Jonathan was looking to claim the belt but ‘Crusher’ Jerry Blackwell shows up at ringside. DLJ confronts Blackwell as the ref gets between the two and orders Blackwell to the locker room. Unseen by DLJ and the ref during the melee, Blackwell hands Ventura a roll of quarters. Ventura blasts DLJ as the ref is still dealing with Blackwell. The ref turns around as Ventura had DLJ pinned amongst the quarters littering the ring. The ref makes the 3-count and Ventura is our new Missouri State heavyweight champion. -Afterwards, Bruno Sammartino makes the title presentation but is attacked by Rikidozan as Jesse Ventura holds the LWA World’s champ down. Dozan hits his Thunderous Chops over and over again; leveling Bruno each time as Ventura howls in laughter. Akira Maeda runs down to the cheers of the crowd but the cheers soon turn to jeers as Maeda locks on a cross-arm breaker as Dozan is blasting Bruno in the face with stiff right hands. Finally, Larry Zbyszko and Len Rossi race out and chase the heels away. Bruno looks to be in big trouble for his match against Buzz Sawyer at Deuce’s Wild 3.

Rikidozan/Akira Maeda dq Larry Zbyszko/Len RossiZbyszko/Rossi ran through Rikidozan/Maeda but Rossi gets too aggressive and blasts Maeda with a steel chair. As that was happening, Rikidozan blasted Zbyszko with his Thunderous Chops that sent Larry flying from the ring apron through a table at ringside to the floor. 9. LWA World’s champion, Bruno Sammartino def. Bison Smith Bison Smith called Bruno out on GNP TV and this match resulted due to Bruno’s response. Bruno follows by working over Smith’s back with powerful forearms and hammer blows. Bruno catches Smith in the Bearhug to further weaken Smith before finishing the match with the Backbreaker for the win. -Afterwards, Nick Bockwinkel and Bobby Heenan make a surprise entrance into the ring with Bockwinkel grabbing the World’s title out of Bruno’s hands. The two stare each other down as Bobby Heenan tells Bruno and the humanoids that Nick is here to get back what’s always been rightfully his…the LWA World’s title. Bockwinkel hands the belt back and waves for Bruno to leave. Bockwinkel turns around and blasts Bison Smith with a pair of brass knuckles. A couple more shots and Bison is busted open. Bockwinkel locks in the Figure-Four Leglock and Bison is in a world of hurt. Heenan’s on the mike yelling at Smith, saying Smith is paying for Larry Sweeney’s transgressions. Finally, Sam Munchnick leads a team of security out to break up the mugging. Munchnick has the house mike to end the show. Munchnick asks if this is some hair-brained stunt Sweeney’s trying to pull by calling out St Louis Wrestling on GNP’s TV show. Munchnick says he’s too old to play games and if Sweeney wanted GNP to get its ass kicked by SLWC, then all he had to do was ask nicely.

SLWC presents ‘Wrestling At The Chase’ Chase-Plaza Hotel; St Louis, Mo; 12 Mar 2009 -Sam Munchnick came out and announced the tag title match would have 2 falls. The first fall would be contested for the AWA US tag titles while the second fall would be for the Archway tag titles. 1. AWA Lt Heavyweight Showcase: Perry Saturn def. Hayabusa Saturn started out strong and never let up. Hayabusa, however, proved to be a tough out as he withstood nearfall after nearfall. Finally, Saturn was able to lock in his second Rings of Saturn of the match to force a win. 2. AWA Lt Heavyweight Showcase: Brian Christopher dq Rob Van Dam Mr Monday Night pays a visit to St Louis. However, Brian Christopher should have went to Memphis instead. Van Dam was all over Christopher from the start. At times, it seemed like Van Dam was toying with Christopher. Van Dam did make one mistake though, he grabbed a chair and nailed Christopher with the Van Terminator…right in front of the referee. The ref promptly calls for the bell and awards the match to Brian Christopher. 3. AWA Lt Heavyweight Showcase: Chris Jericho def. Chris Hero Before the match, Chris Hero insulted everyone associated with the St Louis Wrestling Club from Nick Bockwinkel to Sam Munchnick. This brought Bockwinkel to ringside; strictly as a partial observer, Bockwinkel claimed. Bockwinkel served his purpose as Hero was distracted throughout the match. Jericho looked to finish Hero off but missed a turnbuckle charge. As Hero rolled Jericho up, Bockwinkel blasted Hero with a pair of brass knuckles which led right into Jericho’s Walls of Jericho for the win. 4. Akira Maeda def. Len RossiAn aggressive Maeda pummels Len Rossi. Rossi proves he’s a tough customer by absorbing a lot of punishment. Rossi fights back but it was not to be as Maeda catches Rossi coming off the ropes with the Dragon Suplex for the win. 5. Sgt Slaughter dq Eric the RedThe last time these two squared off Slaughter got roughed up. Slaughter was on the offensive throughout the match but couldn’t put Eric away. Slaughter whips Eric into the buckles but Eric charges out and smashes Sarge with his bone. Eric does a number on Slaughter as Sarge is again left bloody in the ring. 6. Nick Bockwinkel w/ Bobby Heenan def. Antonio RoccaBockwinkel seemed distracted throughout the match; almost like he was afraid Chris Hero would make an appearance. Bockwinkel survived several nearfalls thanks to Bobby Heenan. Finally, Heenan got his charge focused and Bockwinkel sunk in the Bockwinkel Sleeper to pick up the win. -Afterwards, Chris Hero ran through the crowd and attacked Bockwinkel. The two brawled all the way to the back before security could separate them. 7. Rick Martel tld Pat PattersonIn probably the best match ever since SLWC re-opened last September, this two went at each other for 30 minutes without a clear cut winner. Both had many chances to win the match but somehow, Martel and Patterson found a way to keep the match going. Final token tally was even at 8 apiece. The fans gave the two a standing ovation as Sam Munchnick made his way to the ring. Sam announces a rematch next week between Martel and Patterson with the winner facing Nick Bockwinkel at a special house show on March 24th. The winner of that match will go on to face AWA US champion, Brett Hart on March 26th. 8. Special Attraction: Bruno Sammartino def. Mitsuhara Misawa The fans gave both wrestlers huge cheers throughout the match and were on the edge of their seats at every nearfall. Both traded the advantage many times as Bruno worked over Misawa’s back and Mitsuhara hit multiple Tiger Drivers in an effort to set up his Tiger Driver ‘91. In the end, Bruno’s power won out as Bruno delivered consecutive Backbreakers to get the win. The two shook hands as a show mutual respect afterwards. 9. Midnight Express no contest Tom Jenkins/Tiger Jeet Singh to retain the US tag/Archway tag titlesThe match was set up for the first fall contesting the AWA US tag titles and the second fall putting the Archway tag titles up for grabs. However, the Original Midnight Express had other ideas as they attacked Jim Cornette and his Midnight Express. All three of the Originals were involved as Tom Jenkins and Tiger Jeet Singh joined in. Cornette was busted open and bleeding like a stuck pig before it was all over with. The St Louis PD is called in to stop the mugging and escort the Original Midnight Express out of the building. -Sam Munchnick makes the announcement that the second fall will not take place as Jim Cornette’s Midnight Express are in no shape to wrestle a second fall. Tom Jenkins is livid at that announcement but Munchnick stands his ground and promise Jenkins/Singh will get their shot next month.
